Feature #5540 specifies the existing twinax console option. This option continues to provide a twinax controller (IOA) and a feature #9844 IOP at no charge. The IOA and IOP require two PCI slots in the system unit. With this configuration, the WAN adapter uses an IOP-based feature code designation and the feature #9844 IOP.
Description The 9405 Model 520 system unit includes six PCI slots. Two new system console options allow you to free up to two of these valuable PCI slots previously used by a twinax controller and its associated IOP. The additional available PCI slots can help you delay or even avoid the need to add an I/O tower or drawers to gain PCI slots.
Refer to Hardware Announcement 106-510, dated July 11, 2006, for additional information on the Thin Console for System i.
The 9944 Model 100 Thin Console for System i is an easy-to-install, low-maintenance, fixed-function unit that provides a 5250 console interface. The thin console is manufactured by and carries the logo of Neoware, Inc., which offers its own maintenance and support. IBM is offering the thin console as a system console option for new Express Configuration orders. Feature #5552 specifies that one thin console be included in your 9405 520 order at no additional charge.
Refer to Hardware Announcement 106-509, dated July 11, 2006, for additional information on System i5 enhancements.
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act System i5 solutions are capable, when used in accordance with IBM′s associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.
The thin console attaches via an HMC Ethernet port on the system unit and does not require an IOA PCI slot or an IOP. This gives you up to two more PCI slots in the 520 system unit compared to the IOP+IOA-based twinax console.
Business Partner information
Thin console is a dedicated console for systems with a single i5/OS partition. It can also support a system with up to four Linux partitions if only i5/OS virtual I/O is used by the Linux partitions. With this configuration, the WAN adapter uses an IOP-less feature number designation, and feature #9844 IOP is not included.
If you are a Direct Reseller - System Reseller acquiring products from IBM, you may link directly to Business Partner information for this announcement. A PartnerWorld ID and password are required (use IBM ID). BP Attachment for Announcement Letter 106-523

Feature #5553 specifies that the Operations Console with embedded Ethernet LAN attach be included in your order at no additional charge. With i5/OS V5R4, this previously announced LAN console can be attached without an IOP or PCI slot. The attachment is to one of two embedded Ethernet LAN ports, leaving the second port available for your applications. This i5/OS console option features a GUI that has more i5/OS function than a 5250 console interface. With this configuration, the WAN adapter uses an IOP-less feature number designation, and feature #9844 IOP is not included. If you choose to use the Operations Console, you must provide a PC and Ethernet cable and load the console application on the PC.

(#9493) — Base PCI WAN for ECS: The #9493 is a WAN with modem adapter that provides connectivity for IBM Electronic Customer Support (ECS) only. This feature is the non-Complex Impedance Matching (CIM) version offered in all countries except Australia and New Zealand. #9493 is functionally equivalent to #0614, #2793, and #9793, but #9493 indicates to IBM configurator tools that the IOA is being used by i5/OS in an IOP-less mode. When in IOP-less mode, the adapter function is restricted to communicating to IBM ECS on port 0 (modem port). Port 1 is the RVX port and is not supported in an IOP-less mode.
Port 0 supports V.92 56K PPP, V.92 data modem, and V.44 data compression. Port 0 does not provide synchronous modem capabilities (SDLC and synchronous PPP). Select one of the following cables to attach to port 0 (modem port):

Features and specify codes
Security, auditability, and control System i5 uses the security and auditability features of IBM i5/OS. Use of these facilities is optional. The security measures supplied by i5/OS are designed to reduce the risk of users changing or destroying data resources, but do not prevent it. The i5/OS security features include the use of passwords, a security option to limit a user to only functions provided by customer-designed menus, and a security option to limit read/write access for files, libraries, and folders during normal operations. To achieve increased security, the i5/OS controls should be combined with physical security, division of duties, and other appropriate measures.
