IBM System Storage Tape Cartridge 3592 Extended Models 014, 015, 016, 024, 025, and 026 provide enhanced capacity for enterprise tape drives Overview Six new models of the IBM System Storage 3599 Tape Media give you options to order data cartridges for the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive Model E05 (machine type 3592, Model E05). The 3599 Models 014, 015, and 016, which are called IBM Tape Cartridge 3592 Extended Data, are designed to provide up to 700 GB rewritable native physical capacity of storage, whereas the 3599 Models 024, 025, and 026 models, called the IBM Tape Cartridge 3592 Extended WORM, are designed to provide write-once, read-many (WORM) storage on a 700 GB, or higher capacity cartridge. As with previous models, these models give you flexibility in the specification and ordering of prelabeled and initialized data cartridges. The higher capacity tape cartridges are designed for applications such as archiving and data retention, as well as those applications requiring security or an audit trail. These cartridges work with the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive to help prevent the unauthorized access, alteration, or deletion of user data and are supported by the encryption capability in the TS1120 Model E05 Tape Drive and its associated Encryption Key Manager component.
These tape media models have Cartridge Memory in each data cartridge that is designed to help enhance functionality and reliability of the media. This new extended length, higher capacity tape cartridge media is supported when the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive Model E05 is integrated or used in the IBM System Storage TS3500 Tape Library (machine type 3584), IBM TotalStorage 3494 Tape Libraries, IBM TotalStorage Silo Compatible Tape Drive Frame 3592 Model C20, and standalone environments. The IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Controller, the IBM Virtualization Engine TS7700, (the IBM Virtualization TS7740 Server supports JB media), and the IBM TotalStorage 3592 Tape Controller Model J70 subsystems support the IBM System Storage TS1120 Tape Drive′s use of the extended length cartridge. The latest versions of TS1120 drive microcode and library or subsystem firmware may be required to support the higher capacity IBM Tape Cartridge 3592 Extended media.
