BASIC CONFIGURATION
BASIC CONFIGURATION A basic InterReach Spectrum™ configuration includes the following units: 1 Host Unit (HU) 1 Expansion Module Group (EMG), which includes: •
1 DART Remote Unit (DRU)
•
1 IF Expansion Unit (IFEU)
•
1 Power Supply Unit
1 Main Remote Access Unit (MRAU) 1 to 3 Secondary Remote Access Units (SRAU) per MRAU InterReach Spectrum configurations can be expanded also as described below. One HU supports up to 8 EMGs, which would consist of: 8 DRUs 8 IFEUs 8 Power Supply Units Each IFEU can support up to 8 MRAUs. Each MRAU can support 3 SRAUs, for a total of 128MRAU/SRAU clusters, with up to 8 bands per cluster.

HOST UNIT
HOST UNIT The HU supports up to 8 BTSs through DART (Digital/Analog Radio Transceiver) cards. DARTs are swappable, which allows upgrades to additional bands by adding its DART card. The following RF DARTs are supported by the HU: 800 SMR Classic RF DART 850 Cellular Classic RF DART 900 SMR Classic RF DART 1900 PCS Super RF DART 2100 AWS Super RF DART 700 Lower ABC Super RF DART 700 Upper C Super RF DART Each of these RF DARTs has an input UL, DL ports and an output RF dummy port. The output port is used to connect the RF DART to the HU chassis using a dummy fiber connector (TE Connectivity “Dummy Fiber”). Once all the RF DARTs are connected to the HU, their services are available at the 8 output fiber ports on the HU. Then, by connecting one or more of those output fiber ports to their fiber modules, the RF signals can be transported to the DRU (DART Remote Unit).

DART REMOTE UNIT
EXPANSION MODULE GROUP The Expansion Module Group (EMG) is composed of: 1 DART Remote Unit (DRU) 1 IF Expansion Unit (IFEU) 1 Power Supply Unit
Figure 7 – EMG composed of the populated DRU, the IFEU and the power supply unit
DART REMOTE UNIT The optical cable linking the HU to the DRU is connected to its corresponding fiber module in the DRU. The fiber module has two outputs. One of them is used to connect the fiber module to the DRU chassis, while the other may be used to cascade one DRU to another. Once the output of the fiber module has been connected to one of the input fiber ports of the DRU chassis, the signal coming through the fiber cable is populated to all IF DART output ports on the DRU chassis. As the HU has its own RF DART cards, the DRU has the following IF DART cards: 800 SMR Classic IF DART 850 Cellular Classic IF DART 900 SMR Classic IF DART 1900 PCS Super IF DART 2100 AWS Super IF DART 700 Lower ABC Path 1 Super IF DART 700 Upper C Path 1 Super IF DART

EXPANSION MODULE GROUP
700 Lower ABC Path 2 Super IF DART 700 Upper C Path 2 Super IF DART A maximum of 8 IF DARTs may be connected to a DRU chassis. The IF DARTs of the DRU must be connected to the DRU chassis output ports. Then, each of these IF DARTs can be linked to a specific BTS sector connected to an RF DART card of the HU. The output port of the IF DARTs is then connected to the input ports of the IF Expansion Unit (IFEU).

EXPANSION MODULE GROUP
IF EXPANSION UNIT Through its 8 input ports, the IFEU can be connected to up to 8 IF DART cards, replicating all the services available through those cards to each of the IFEU’s output ports.

POWER SUPPLY UNIT The power supply unit is provided within iBwave Design to take into account the cost details of this component. However, it doesn’t affect the system connections.

CASCADING DRUS
CASCADING DRUS To connect the first DRU to the second, the fiber module of the first DRU having its input connected to the HU using a fiber cable must have 1 of its 2 outputs connected to the input of another fiber module in the first DRU. The general rule of fibers in and out of a DRU must follow an N+4 rule. That is, if a DRU input fiber module is in slot 1, then the output is on slot 5. This applies to all DRUs, with the exception of the last cascaded DRU as it would not require outgoing fibers.

MAIN/SECONDARY REMOTE ACCESS UNITS
MAIN/SECONDARY REMOTE ACCESS UNITS The output port of the IFEU needs to be connected to the input port of the MRAU. Each MRAU supports up to 3 SRAUs. Both, MRAUs and SRAUs can then be connected to the DAS antennas through their RF output ports.

BOM CABLE FACTOR – iBWAVE DB EDITOR
BOM CABLE FACTOR – iBWAVE DB EDITOR To facilitate design within iBwave, the separate UL/DL ports of Spectrum components are merged into one. This reduces the number of cables/jumpers required to connect these components by half, and simplifies the design. However, to provide an accurate reporting of the Equipment List, Cable Routing or Link Budget, a new parameter called “BOM Cable Factor” has been introduced in the description of components in the DB Editor. This factor indicates the multiplication factor (2 in this case) required to compensate for merging UL/DL ports of the components. Providing this multiplication factor doubles the quantity of jumpers, while for cables, the length and number of connectors is doubled.
Figure 19 – Connectors description with the "BOM Cable Factor" set to 2 to account for merging UL/DL ports

UPDATING iBWAVE DESIGN FILES WITH ADC SPECTRUM COMPONENTS
UPDATING iBWAVE DESIGN FILES WITH ADC SPECTRUM COMPONENTS According to the product specs received from TE Connectivity, we have modeled this new version in the best possible way with the components types that are currently available in iBwave Design. This version benefits from the new component type called "Media Converter" that allows to associate the component with one or several systems, which are used for the DART cards. Unfortunately, it is not possible to automatically replace the previous version of ADC Spectrum components by the new ones as the components have been modeled with other categories (refer to page 14). Once the new components have been imported to the database, you can update iBwave Design files that include ADC Spectrum components in the following manner: 1. Delete the ADC Spectrum components in your design. 2. Add the new Spectrum components; search for TE Connectivity manufacturer. A quick way to find the new components is to use the Components Browser. Select TE Connectivity as the manufacturer, and type Spectrum as the filter criteria (see screen capture below), then drag the components to the design. NOTE Components tagged with the “Obsolete” description should no longer be used.
