Best Imaging Company of the Year! rigorous methodology to recognize superior planning and execution of product launches, strategic alliances, distribution strategies, technological innovations and customer services, among others. This process saw external jury members, eminent personalities and key opinion leaders in the healthcare industry to rate each company on research data provided by Frost & Sullivan and the jury members’ own understanding of the market as a subject matter expert. It gives me immense pleasure to announce to you that Siemens Healthcare, India has been awarded the Best Imaging Company of the Year for 2014 at Frost & Sullivan’s 6th Annual India Healthcare Excellence Awards, which was held last month. This award resonates with Siemens Healthcare’s contribution to the healthcare industry. The awards program followed a
Continuing with our mission to be the trusted partners to our customers, I would like to elaborate on Siemens’ focus on providing technologies enabling precise diagnosis for better cardiac care. At the recently held ESC 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, Siemens introduced applications that are designed for a more precise diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). CVD is a lifestyle disorder that currently is the leading cause of death
worldwide, including India. We will move on to display more such innovative products at RSNA, which will be held in Chicago in the month of November this year. Do visit Siemens’ booth at RSNA to discover how Siemens answers can help you to increase the quality of care while reducing costs. Lastly, I would like to thank you for the immense response towards the first issue of iConnect. It clearly gives us an indication that we are moving in the right direction of meeting our customers’ demands. I hope you will enjoy reading this issue of iConnect as well. ESC 2014 More cardiology, less heartache. Under the motto “More cardiology, less heartache”, Siemens showcased its latest solutions in cardiology at the congress of the European Society for Cardiology in Barcelona, Spain. These applications are designed for a more precise diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. At ESC, Siemens Healthcare also introduced the new Prime edition of its ACUSON SC2000 ultrasound system.
MyoMaps
syngo.CT Cardiac Function
MRI application for myocardial tissue quantification
Application for myocardial perfusion syngo.CT Cardiac Function – Enhancement application for myocardial perfusion enables both CT Angiography and functional assessment of coronary lesions, using perfusion imaging and can be performed using only one modality. Together with the SOMATOM Force CT scanner, it is very easy to integrate the application into the day-today routine, since it offers significantly improved spatial coverage of the heart. This means more convenience for the patients, offers a faster approach to diagnosis for the physician and saves time.

As currently the only provider, Siemens Healthcare not only enables visual diagnosis, but now offers physical quantification of myocardial tissue with MyoMaps. MyoMaps makes it possible to record microscopic changes in myocardial tissue and represent them as pixel-based, colored images. This enables the diagnosis and quantification of diffuse myocardial pathologies, scar tissue and edemas in the very early stages of the disease. It also allows for early detection and quantification of iron overload, which can result in heart failure. MyoMaps is now available for the 1.5T scanner MAGNETOM Aera and the 3T scanner MAGNETOM Skyra and will be available for more scanners in the future. With these results, physicians can diagnose and begin treating heart patients earlier than before and improve the course of disease.
This new release of the premium cardiovascular imaging system is the first to offer live full-volume color Doppler imaging of heart valve anatomy and blood-flow using a new true volume transesophageal echo (TEE) probe. With this technology, physicians can obtain a more anatomically authentic view of the heart and dynamic blood flow in one view during interventional valve procedures, even in patients with ECG abnormalities. This helps them to make faster and more accurate critical decisions.

Frost & Sullivan recognizes FREEZEit Based on its recent analysis of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Siemens Healthcare with the 2014 North American Award for Product Leadership. Siemens Healthcare’s FREEZEit solution, which employs Siemens’ MAGNETOM Aera and Skyra scanners, addresses the need for robust and motioninsensitive imaging. The solution’s sophistication and utility in patient care has boosted the evolution of body MRI imaging. FREEZEit has been identified as the industry’s most effective solution in MR abdominal imaging.

Conventional MR imaging is sensitive to motion, whether voluntary (respiratory motion or physical movement by the patient) or involuntary (cardiac motion, bowel motion). Body MR imaging also requires the patient to hold their breath in order to achieve diagnostic image quality; however, children, the elderly or very sick patients find it difficult to comply with the breath-hold commands. StarVIBE and TWIST-VIBE, the two components of FREEZEit, enable providers to overcome these challenges and expand their body MR referrals.

“Scope will be the most preferred CT scanner” Dr. Prasanna Vignesh, Medical Director and Chief Radiologist, Aarthi Scans like peripheral angiograms. In abdomen studies, we are able to make out subtle details like tiny lymph nodes and minimal bowel wall thickenings with excellent quality of multiplanar reconstruction. When it comes to Musculoskeletal studies, our first case in the machine was a fracture of the neck of the femur in hip joint, where we could give superb reconstructed 3D images to the orthopaedic surgeon. In peripheral angiogram, we could trace and scan the vessels from the level of abdominal aorta up to the level of big toe and dorsum of foot quite clearly.
With the new Scope, 16 slice CT scanner, we have completed close to 120 cases in five days, which includes a wide range from basic studies like brain and PNS to multi-phasic abdomen studies and chest. We also did 3D imaging of musculoskeletal joints and complicated cases
I am really amazed by the quality of images that this machine is able to produce with a 2 MHU Tube. The machine has such minimal power requirements and occupies less space. I am sure Scope will be the most preferred CT scanner, especially in diagnostic centres like ours, as it can perform a wide range of studies without compromising on the image quality and also patient comfort, owing to the 70 cm bore and true tilt. I would like to congratulate Siemens on coming up with such a wonderful machine considering the requirements of today and expectations of the future.
