The ST-37 controller has been tested for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) with optimal loads applied. For compliance assessment, harmonized standards were used: PN-EN 60730-2-9:2006. Paweł Jura, Janusz Master -2- TECH Attention! THE LIVE ELECTRIC DEVICE! Before doing any activities connected with power supply (connecting wires, installation of the device, etc) it is necessary to make sure that the regulator is not connected to the grid! Assembly and installation should only be carried out by qualified electrician. Before activating the controller it is necessary to do the measurement of effectiveness of resetting electric motors, the boiler and the measurement of insulation of electric wires. -3- TECH ALARM fuel feeder Fan CH pump H.T.W. pump Return from the menu and cancel the settings button Encoder knob I. Description The temperature regulator ST-37i is designed for the central heating boiler. It controls the circulation of water pump, the hot tap water pump, air-blow (a fan), and feeder. ● If temperature of the stove is lower than Set temperature, the regulator is in operating mode in which the air blow is working all the time. The working time of the feeder is setting by user (he sets both the working time and the break time). ● If temperature of the stove is equal or higher than Set temperature, the regulator is in back-up mode. -5- ST-37 – Manual Guide II. Functions of the regulator. This chapter describes regulator functionality, how to change settings and navigate in the menu with the encoder (knob). Depending on the mode the boiler is currently in, the display will show boiler operational parameters. The given mode is selected by the user. II.a) Main page 62oc CH 72oc set During normal work of the regulator in the LCD display you can see the main page on which there are displayed following information: ● Temperature of the stove ● Set temperature This screen enalbes quick changing set temperature by knob. Pressing the knob will move the user to first level menu. On the display there are displayed two first lines of the menu. On the menu you can move by encoder. Pressing the knob will move you to the next submenu or it will start the option. EXIT moves you back to main menu. II.b) Manual Work 62oc CH 72oc set Manual Work Feeding time Feeder Air-blow In order to user’s comfort, the regulator has Manual Work. In this function, every element of the system is turned on and off irrespective of the rest. -6- TECH Feeder Air-blow Pressing knob button activates the feeder. The feeder remains activated till pressing again knob. Feeder Air-blow Pressing knob turns on / off the air-blow Air-blow CH pump Pressing knob turns on / off the central heating pump CH pump H.T.W pump Pressing knob turns on / off the hot tap water pump of the boiler H.T.W. pump ALARM Pressing knob turns on / off the alarm. II.c) Working time This option is designed to set feeder’s working time. You should set working time depending on used fuel. 62oc CH 72oc set feeding time Feeder breaktime 00 min 30 sek Feeder WorkTime II.d) Break time 62oc CH 72oc set feeding time feeding break 12 min 30 sek feeding break Break time is used to setting the break of feeder’s work. You should adjust break time to the type of fuel that is being burned in the boiler. If you choose wrong working time or wrong time of the break it can cause wrong functioning the boiler, that is the coal could be not burned out or the boiler could not reach set temperature. When you choose proper time, the boiler will be working correctly. -7- ST-37 – Manual Guide II.e) The temperature of turning the central heating and hot tap water pump on 62oc CH 72oc set feeding break CH and H.T.W. pump 35 oc CH and H.T.W. pump This option is designed for setting the temperature of turning the central heating and hot tap water pomp on (it is the temperature measured on the boiler). Below this temperature pumps don’t work; When the temperature is higher than set temperature, both pumps are turned on, but they are working depending on their settings that is they are being turned alternately (see: function priority of pump or permanent CH pump) II.f) Histereza C.W.U. 62oc CH 72oc set Hysteresis H.T.W. hysteresis 10 oc H.T.W. hysteresis This option is design for setting the hysteresis of temperature set on the boiler. It is the difference between set temperature (demanded on the boiler) and temperature on the boiler (e.g. Set temperature is 55°C and hysteresis is 5°C. After reaching set temperature (55°C) the hot tap water pump turns on and causes that the central heating pump turns on. Repeated turning the hot tap water pump on will take place after decreasing temperature to 50°C). II.g) Hysteresis 62oc CH 72oc set H.T.W. hysteresis Hysteresis This option is design for setting the hysteresis of Set temperature. It is the difference between the input temperature to back-up mode and return temperature to operating mode (e.g. when Set temperature is 60°C and hysteresis is 3°C then transition to back-up mode follows after reaching 60°C and returning to operation mode will follow after falling to 57°C). -8- TECH II.h) Air-blow strength 62oc 72oc CH set H.T.W. hysteresis Airblowstrength 03 Airblowstrength This function controls the fan’s working speed. Range of adjustment is from 1 to 10 (it can be said that these are fan’s gears). The biggest the gear is, the faster the fan works. The first gear – it is a minimum speed of the fan and 10th gear is a maximum speed of the fan. To change the range of fan’s gears, turn the knobs. The fan always turns on in the beginning with full speed – it makes possible turning the fan on when the motor is a little dusty. II.i) Operation Mode 62oc CH 72oc set Airblowstrength Operation Mode With this function, you can select one out of four operation modes. II.i.1) House Heating House Heating * H.C.W. Priority If you select this option, the regulator will switch to the house heating mode. The central heating pump starts to run above the pump activation threshold. Below this temperature (minus 2OC – constant hysteresis) the pump is switched off. -9- ST-37 – Manual Guide II.i.2) H.C.W. Priority House Heating H.C.W. Priority * In this mode, the (hot consumption water) heater pump is activated until the temperature being set is reached. Then, the pump is shut off and the central heating circulation pump is activated. After reaching the setpoint temperature of the water heater, the hot consumption water pump is shut off, causing the central heating pump to be activated. The central heating pump will run until the water heater temperature drops below the setpoint value; then, the central heating pump is shut off and the hot consumption water pump is activated. In this mode, the fan and the feeder run as long as the temperature is below 62°C to prevent the boiler from overheating. ATTENTION: the boiler should have non-return valves mounted on the central heating pump circuit and the hot consumption water pump circuit. A valve mounted on the hot consumption water pump will prevent hot consumption water from being drawn from the water heater. - 10 - TECH II.i.3) Parallel Pumps H.C.W. Priority Parallel Pumps * 42 Oc C.H. | 55 Oc Setpoint In this mode, the pumps run in parallel if the temperature remains above the activation threshold (see the Pump Activation Temperature function in the Fitter’s Menu). The central heating pump runs continuously, while the hot consumption water pump stops after the setpoint temperature is reached in the water heater. Attention: in this mode, a three-way valve or a mixing valve should be fitted to maintain different temperature between the water heater and the house. II.i.4) Summer Mode Parallel Pumps Summer Mode * 45 Oc 43 Oc C.H. H.C.W. 55 Oc Set When the function is enabled, only the hot consumption water pump is running in order to heat water in the water heater. The pump is switched on above a predefined activation threshold (see the pump activation temperature function) and will run until the setpoint temperature has been reached. The pump will start again when the temperature drops below the set hysteresis. In the Summer Mode, only the setpoint temperature is set on the boiler that heats up water for the water heater (the temperature set for the boiler is also the temperature set for the water heater). - 11 - ST-37 – Manual Guide II.j) Room regulator 62oc CH 72oc set H.T.W pump Room regulator OFF ON To ST-37 regulator it can be added to room regulator. Then, it has higher priority. The feeder and the air-blow is working till the moment of reaching set temperature on the room regulator. However, boiler’s work is limited by temperature set on the controller mounted on the boiler. II.k) Alarm 62oc 72oc CH set Roomregulator ALARM 01 gdz 10 min ALARM The time of activation the temperature’s alarm is setting by knob. Saving the set time takes place after pressing the MENU button. This function activates only in operating mode (only when temperature of the stove is lower than Set temperature). If temperature of the stove is not rising for the time specified by the user, the alarm activates: The feeder and the air blow turns off (the pump of water is turned on and off independently), and the sound signal switches on. The proper message displays on the display (see Protection section) - 12 - TECH II.l) Permanent central heating pump function 62oc 72oc CH set alarm PermanentCHpump YES nO In this mode pumps working starts simultaneously over set temperature (see temperature of turning pumps on function). The central heating pump is working all the time and the hot tap water pump turns off after reaching temperature set on the boiler. Attention: In this mode there should be mounted a three-way valve or other blending valve that causes keeping one temperature in the boiler and another temperature in the house. II.m) Air-blow 62oc 72oc CH set Air-blow break Factory settings The function included in this menu is designed to regulate boiler’s work while its working in back-up mode. It prevents from extinguishing the boiler when the temperature of the boiler is over set temperature. In this function you can set break time of the feeder and air-blow. After expiring set time, the feeder and the air-blow is turned on for the time which is defined by the producer of the boiler. You can change time of the feeder and the air-blow in service functions. You should set time of burning break depending on fuel and the type of the boiler. Attention: Incorrect setting options that are mentioned above can cause permanent rising temperature (Time of burning break should not be too short). - 13 - ST-37 – Manual Guide II.n) Factory settings 62oc 72oc CH set air-blow break Factorysettings no yes The fan is tentatively preset to work. However, you should adjust it to your own needs. In every moment it is possible to return to factory settings. III. Protections In order to ensure maximum safe and failure-free working, the regulator has a number of protections. In the case of an alarm, the sound signal encloses and there appears adequate message on the display. When you press MENU the controller returns to working. III.a) Temperature alarm This protection activates only in working mode (it means that it actives only when temperature of the stove is lower than set temperature). If temperature of the stove does not increase for the time defined by the user (see Alarm section), the alarm activates: the feeder and the air-blow turns off (the pump of water turns on independently from temperature of the stove) and sound signal turns on. There appears a proper message on the display: A L A R M NOINCREASEINTEM P MEMU button, and then the alarm The regulator is waiting for pressing turns off. The regulator returns to the last set working mode. III.b) Thermal protection It is additional mini bimetallic sensor (it is placed near the stove sensor) which cuts off the output of the fan in the case of exceeded 90°C. It prevents from boiling the water in the case of damage of the thermoregulator. - 14 - TECH III.c) Automatic controlling the sensor In the case of damage of central heating temperature’s sensor, hot tap water temperature’s sensor or feeding endless screw, the alarm becomes active. It signalizes the fault on the display: A L A R M Sensorisdamaged The feeder and the air-blow are turned off. The pump is turned on irrespective from current temperature. The regulator is waiting for pressing MENU button and then the alarm is turned off and the controller returns to normal working. III.d) Protection of boiling the water in the boiler. This protection prevents from the high temperature of the boiler, [only in the priority of the boiler function] namely when set temperature of the boiler is for instance 55°C and temperature on the boiler is 62°C the controller turns the feeder and fan on. When temperature decreases to 75°C the central heating pump turns on. If temperature is still decreasing and it reaches 80°C the alarm is turning on. This can appear when the boiler is damaged, wrongly mounted or the pump is damaged. However, when temperature is falling and reaches 60°C the controller will turn the feeder and air blow on and it will be working until reaching temperature set on the boiler III.e) Temperature protection In the case of damage of bimetalic sensor the regulator has additional protection: after exceeding the 95°C temperature, the alarm is switched on. It signalizes on the display: A L A R M temp too high III.f) Fuel container protection On the endless screw of the feeder there is an additional sensor that measures temperature. When the temperature is rising much more (above 65°C), the alarm is turning on: the feeder turns on for 10 minutes – it causes moving the fuel to the burning chamber. The sensor of the endless screw protects from lighting the fuel in the basket A LA R M BasketSenFailure - 15 - ST-37 – Manual Guide III.g) Fuse The regulator has cartridge fuse WT 6,3A which protects the grid.
