iMovie Step-By-Step Guide Step 1: You need to click on the iMovie icon to open it.
Step 2: You need to go to File, then New project.
Step 3: You now need to type in a name for your project. You can leave the ratio as widescreen (depending on type of camera you used to video). Leave the theme as “None” and do not tick the automatically add. Now click the create button.
Step 4: Go to File then go to Import then Movies. Then select the movies you would like to use. Your movies will be imported and they should come up in your event library. So on the side of your screen your events will be listed. Name this list this will be where all of your videos are stored (simply click once to change its name).
*Note: if you would like to add more movies just drag them into your list (as shown above) or if they won’t drag go to File, then Import, then Movies.
Step 5: Now you should be able to see all of your video clips in the bottom part of the iMovie application window.
Step 6: Click once anywhere; a yellow frame should appear on the clip. You can press the space bar to play it and then the space bar again to stop it.
Step 7: Find the clip that you want to start with and click it once. Now drag the left side of the yellow frame to where you want the clip to start. Then drag the right side of the yellow frame to where you want the clip to end. Step 8: Once you are happy with the part of the movie you selected, drag the yellow framed clip up to the project viewer area (upper left). This is the timeline for your movie. If your clip is not trimmed in the right spot the original clip at the bottom is unchanged. So all you have to do is delete the first one, re trim the original and put it back on the timeline. Step 9: As you are dragging different clips in and editing them you can watch your movie from the timeline. All you have to do is hover your mouse over the part you want to watch and press the spacebar. The red line shows where the movie is up to in playback. Pressing the spacebar again will stop the movie from playing.

Step 10: You can add voice overs to your videos all you need to do is click the microphone icon. You will have options different options where you can choose what microphone you use, the sound levels, whether the voiceover plays over your video etc. When you are ready to record click on the clip you want to put the voiceover on and after a 3 second countdown just begin talking as your video plays.
Step 11: You can add sound files or images to your project. To add a sound file click the music note icon in the edit browser and then just browse for the music file you want. Once you find it simply drag it into your project.
Step 12: You can add titles to your video as well. Just click the “T” icon on the edit browser which is shown above. Select the title you want and drag it on top of the clip you want to add it to. You can change the fonts by clicking the “show fonts” button. Step 13: You can add transitions to your movie, all you need to do is click the transition icon on the edit browser (shown right). Step 14: You can add animations to your video, just click the transition icon (shown on you left) and take the animation you want and drag it into the timeline in the spot where you want it to go. Step 15: Keep repeating and adjusting these steps until you have edited your movie the way you want it. You can use the command button then hit Z if you want to undo something and to de-select anything just click on a blank area anywhere in the movie. Step 16: Once you are finished and happy, save your movie to your computer or USB. Click share in the menu at the top of the screen. Then click export movie, you can choose a title, location and quality for your movie. Click where you want to save your movie and save it.
