INCIDENTAL FEES SCHEDULE 2017 VC Approved 15 August 2016 Revised and approved 23 December 2016 An incidental fee is a fee other than a student contribution or a tuition fee that is charged for a good or service related to a student’s study (e.g. course reader, field trip, equipment, etc). Each year the University updates its list of incidental fees, in accordance with the Higher Education Support Act (2003) , as outlined in the Higher Education Administrative Information for Providers (Feb 2015, Section 18), 'Incidental Fees', as follows: Commonwealth supported students and domestic fee-paying students generally must be able to complete the requirements of their course of study without the imposition of fees that are additional to student contribution amounts or tuition fees'. 'A provider may charge a student for a good or service related to the provision of their course of study if one of the following criteria applies': (a) It is a charge for a good or service that is not essential to the course of study; or (b) It is a charge for alternative forms of access to goods or services essential to the course of study, but is otherwise readily available at no additional cost by the provider. (c) It is a charge for an essential good or service that students have the choice of acquiring from a supplier other than the University and is for: (i) equipment or items that become the student's physical property and are not consumed during the course of study; or (ii) food, transport and accommodation costs associated with the provision of field trips that form part of the course of study; or (d) when it is a fine or a penalty imposed principally as a disincentive and not to raise revenue or cover administrative costs.
