The self contained breathing apparatus system, including the AirGo and AirMaXX models, is independent of the ambient atmosphere, meaning the user is not tied to a specific location. They offer a wide variety of features and applications. MSA offers the monitoring systems alpha Personal Network with telemetric capabilities and the personal alert safety system motionSCOUT. 3 MSA’s chemical oxygen apparatus are ideal for escape/ or working applications wherever outbreaks of toxic gases, particles or the sudden occurrence of oxygen deficiency are to be expected. The Airline system is designed for applications of extended duration; e.g. in confined spaces. This system connects to an external air supply, offering cost effective protection. If you have to be prepared for situations where sudden oxygen deficiency can occur, an MSA compressed air escape device is an option well worth considering. Supplied Air Respirators Breathing Apparatus AirXpress In building the AirXpress, an SCBA system made for tight budgets, MSA has concentrated on those features most essential for safety and performance. To meet the specialised demands of industry and emergency response, the MSA AirXpress comes in two configurations: AirXpress Industrial and AirXpress Fire. The AirXpress first-stage pressure reducer is the same one used in all MSA systems. This patented and choice component distinguishes itself through reduced parts and low maintenance, which translates into reduced cost of ownership. Like all other MSA SCBA systems, all components on the AirXpress are designed to last long in rugged circumstances. Local regulations concerning the use of filtering devices must be observed. In order to use filtering respirators, the type, properties and composition of the hazardous agent in the ambient air must be known. The oxygen content in the inhalation air must be sufficient (for example according to German regulations: at least 17 vol %). When using particle filters, no hazardous gases may be present; when using gas filters, no hazardous particles. In case of doubt, a combined filter must be used. Air Purifying Respirators The most frequently used filters are of the ABEK type, which protect against many hazards at the same time, due to the wide range of protection that they provide. Based on EN 14387, these filters have an application range covering the code letters A, B, E and K. Benefits for the user include: safe selection, no mix-ups, economical procurement, simpler stockkeeping. High-grade multiple range filters have an even greater sphere of application, e. g. the combined filter 93 ABEK CO NO Hg/St or 93 A2B2E2K2 Hg/St. 8 Air Purifying Respirators Protection Against Gases & Particles Full Face Masks 3S Basic Plus The 3S Basic Plus is provided for use with respiratory protective filters [screw-type filters with thread to EN 148-1], assisted and non-assisted fresh air breathing apparatus, air-line systems and Powered-Air-Purifying-Respirators. It is not approved for use by fire departments or as face piece in combination with compressed-air breathing apparatus [certified to EN 136, Class 2]. The 3S Basic Plus faceblank is made of a skin-compatible and largely age-resistant natural rubber formulation. It offers the same good properties the 3S mask series is known for. The acrylic [PMMA] lens is scratch-resistant and almost unbreakable. Moreover it offers a good field of vision. The visor is fitted with a white lens frame and is easy to replace. Extensive anthropometric research led to the Advantage Respirator's unique design. MSA's engineers examined facial form data of over 8,000 people and, with CAD technology, developed the Anthrocurve! Sealing Surface, which instantly conforms to each wearer's unique facial characteristics. The unmatched fit and comfort start with a soft, pliable combination of rubber and plastic that provide a virtually customized fit. These are key components in the patented MultiFlex® System that equalizes pressure on the faceseal area, while delivering exceptional stability, so the respirator will not collapse during wear. Part Number 815444 Description Advantage 200 Half Face Respirators Respiratory Filters MSA offers a wide range of filters, for protection against organic or inorganic gases & vapours according to the required protection range. Gas filters are available in Class 1 & 2, Single or multiple range filters (ABEK). Combined filters can be used for protection against organic & inorganic gases & vapours, according to the required the protection range as against solid & liquid particles. The service time of respiratory filters depends on the conditions of use. For gas or combined filters that are used against gases, the end of a filter's service life can usually be detected by odour, taste or irritation during inhalation. Some filters have a specified maximum service time [CO filter cartridges, combined filters 89 Hg/St]. For particle filters or combined filters that are used against particles, the end of service time can be detected by an increase in inhalation resistance. With combined filters - depending on the predominant protective function - both criteria must be observed. Particle filters must only be used once against radioactive contaminants, spores, bacteria, virus and proteolytic enzymes. Fuel or flammable gas 2. Heat or a source of ignition 3. Oxygen to support combustion This is known as the fire triangle. If you remove any one of the elements, combustion will not occur. The percentage of combustible gas in the air is also important. According to the ATEX manufacturer directive 94/9/EC and the user directive 99/92/EC, any personal monitor for flammable gases, if used as a safety device to reduce the risk of explosion, has to be performance approved. 29 Any manufacturer seeking ATEX EC certification must demonstrate that their product conforms to EN 61779 (or EN 50054) as a minimum requirement for gaining ATEX approval. All MSA combustible gas detectors are designed to comply fully with ATEX standards and can therefore be used as safety devices. Oxygen Instruments to monitor oxygen deficiency or enrichment (measurement in vol.% range), to warn of the danger of asphyxiation or to monitor the inerting of tanks and containers. Toxic Gases In order to recognise and measure toxic substances in the ambient air (typically in ppm – parts per million), multi-gas instruments such as ALTAIR 5X are used.
