A campfire is beautiful, but sadly it has to remain outdoors. Anyone wanting to bring fire into their home is quickly faced with a challenging task: they require a vent or a dedicated chimney, they must ensure safety and they must observe the statutory and environmental regulations. Choosing an electric fire saves you all this work and difficulty. All you need in order to enjoy the comfortable atmosphere is a socket. This is what makes electric fire so safe, so simple and so flexible. Give free rein to the designs of your dreams: you could say there's nowhere an electric fire can't be used! An electric fireplace is the ideal solution even for public areas such as hotel lobbies, bars and restaurants, as safety issues mean that the installation of a gas fire or a real wood fireplace in these areas would either be extremely complicated or (as in the majority of cases) totally forbidden. All this means there's no reason for sophisticated meeting places to go without the magic of fire: the lively play of the flames, the quiet crackling – and the stories that can be told in front of it. The secret is a rotating mirror axis. Similar to the blades of a propeller, multiple mirror elements are attached to it – these are bent and turned in on themselves. This creates a mirror surface that is as large and irregular as possible, refracting the light many times over. This is exactly what assists the fire effect: the more individual elements rotate, the more lively the reflection and the more realistic the flicker – just like with real flames. It brings fire to life! The technology is based on the very first electric open fire, as invented by the British developer John Berry at the start of the twentieth century. Even at that early stage, the mirror 'spindle' was illuminated by a light source located at the side that reflected the light from the bottom towards the top, directly against the dark rear of the fireplace. The pieces of wood or coal in the firebed are also illuminated from below to ensure that they glow as realistically as possible.
Light meets water mist to create a flame effect. Sound impossible, yet it works. But how? Beneath the firebed that features the wood or coal look, there is a water tank in which water is atomised into a fine, dense mist using ultrasound. Halogen lamps behind the water tank heat the air that transports the mist upwards. The rising water mist is distributed along the firebed, thereby reflecting the halogen light. This creates a lively flicker, just like with real dancing flames. Be amazed as water is turned into fire – the reflecting water mist itself creates the fire effect. It is no longer necessary to include a dark rear wall for the fireplace as the three-dimensional Opti-myst fire can be viewed from all sides. The mist flames also react in a completely natural manner – for example, they will move in response to a gust of wind. If you should place your hand in the fire, it will be encircled by the rising flames. You can regulate their power, but you will not get burned! However, it is still possible to create a pleasant warmth in front of the fireplace thanks to the heating option, which features two activation levels. Opti-myst is available as an open fire, as an inset fireplace, as a fireplace with a surround or as a wall installation.
