I 3 Labour Force Information Information population active COMMENTARY Overview Aperçu According to seasonally adjusted estimates from Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey, employment fell by 43,000 in April, following an increase of 48,000 last month. This was the first decline since July 1992. Unemployment increased by 44,000 and the unemployment rate rose to 11.4 (+0.4). Full-time employment fell -51,000, offsetting a gain of 46,000 last month. While the gain in services is consistent with an upward trend that persisted through the recession (+189,000 from 1989 to 1992), the gain in the goods-producing sector reverses the sharp downward trend that extended over that period (434,000).
