About the Infrastructure Engineering Track The Global Enterprise Technology Services (GETS) area of IT controls all infrastructure functions that sustain the firm's technology backbone, supporting our monitoring and integration activities as well as the wide range of networks, tools, and systems used by our employees. In all rotations, you will work with seasoned professionals to devise successful and supportable technical solutions to interesting global business problems. You will gather requirements and then design and implement the tools to meet them in collaboration with teams from GETS, development, and other business areas. The possible rotations are as varied as the numerous projects and initiatives taking place in this large unit. Some teams and rotation experiences are described below.
GETS Engineering Rotation This group is responsible for the engineering of the UNIX, Linux, Windows (server and desktop), VMware, and Messaging platforms, as well as the applications that run atop them. Rotations on this team offer the opportunity to see how we research, evaluate, and select products, size them for optimal performance and availability, and constantly reevaluate them throughout the solution lifecycle. The teams also design and deploy our firm-wide Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, and Office Communication Server infrastructure, and oversee the ever-evolving standardization and management of our Windows desktop and server environments.
Database Management Services Rotation This highly skilled team manages the operation and maintenance of the firm's data. Associates will learn our standard operating environment as implemented on Sybase, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL servers. You will gain a thorough understanding of business resumption methodology, and of the challenges associated with the firm's database management and mission-critical applications.
Client Services/Client Service Management Rotation Our Client Service Managers act as a single point of contact for all initiatives between GETS and its clients. A rotation supporting a client service manager offers hands-on experience in requirements gathering, project management for infrastructure components of technology initiatives, coordination of technology resources, and strengthening of client relationships.
Client Services/End User Technology Rotation The End User Technology group provides direct technology support to users, and coordinates all desktop services, local and global, including hardware deployment, application rollout, and secondlevel support. You will master desktop support basics, troubleshooting techniques, and deployment methodologies.
Centralized Operations Rotation Centralized Operations includes Command Center, which monitors our infrastructure; Client Server System Administration, which maintains our server infrastructure; Production Support, which manages our enterprise job scheduling; and Release Management, which packages and distributes application software. You will gain hands-on experience in various operational functions and specialized tools.
Networking/Telecom Rotation This Communications team designs, builds, and supports the firm’s entire electronic communications environment and technologies, including wireless, data, and voice network systems. You will assist our engineers in projects on capacity planning, new product rollouts (voicemail, conferencing, data optimization), and hardware platform upgrades. You may also participate in strategic planning and the execution of large-scale product placement and legacy platform replacement.
Internet Services Rotation The GETS Internet Services group manages the design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the corporate internet infrastructure, in addition to corporate web hosting environment. This rotation will expose you to a wide range of technologies such as firewalls, load balancers, web and application servers, DNS, IDS, and many others.
