FELCOM 30
FELCOM 50
FELCOM 30 is the smallest and lightest within the Fleet family. This product provides voice and fax communications, integrated 9.6 kbps data service for file transfer via e-mail, and MPDS. The data service of Fleet F33 can achieve an effective throughput of up to seven times faster by using integrated compression, which is useful for small size e-mails and web browsing.
FELCOM 50 offers almost the same services as Fleet F77 within the coverage of spot-beam, and consists of an antenna unit, a communication unit and a handset. FELCOM 50 is an integrated communication center, which facilitates voice and data communications via 64 kbps ISDN or MPDS protocols. FELCOM 50 has a smaller antenna than the FELCOM 70’s, which makes it suitable for those navigating coastal areas, such as private yachts, coast guard vessels and fishing vessels, and could be a cost effective solution if the operation area of your fleet is covered by the spot-beam.
The small size and light weight of the FELCOM 30 makes satellite communications available for a wider range of craft, including fishery and coastguard vessels, yachts and other pleasure craft.
sHigh-speed data communications at 64/28.8 kbps by MPDS sGlobal Area coverage for voice communications sCompact and light-weight antenna unit allows the installation for smaller craft
This radome contains a helix array radiator with a dish reflector. Antenna stabilization is realized by using the three-axis active method that detects the ship's motion with three rate sensors and an inclinometer. This mechanism allows the antenna to keep pointing to an appropriate satellite while a ship is in motion. Connection between the electronic circuits on the turning section with a parabola and those on the fixed pedestal in the radome is made by an improved rotary joint. A GPS receiver is incorporated in the radome and provides accurate position information to allow the MES to determine whether it is within coverage of a spot-beam as well as to orient the dish to the satellite to be used. This arrangement eliminates antenna rewind, providing uninterrupted communications during a course change of the vessel without heading signal input from gyrocompass.
sHigh-quality voice communications at 64 kbps by ISDN sHigh-speed data communications at 64 kbps by ISDN/MPDS sFast and high-quality 9.6 kbps fax sGlobal Area coverage for voice communications
The communication unit accommodates a variety of ports, ISDN telephone, RS-232 and USB to make itself compatible with other communications equipment as well as a PC. There is no need to have interface units such as a terminal adapter. It is a BlackBox unit and may be installed at any place in the bridge.
In case of emergency, by pressing the alert button, a mayday call transmission to the other parties will be initiated. Messages concerning alert transmission and reception are displayed on the standard handset.

The Inmarsat system provides global communications with ships, motor vehicles and aircraft, free from the conventional problems arising from the use of radio communications. The Inmarsat provides a network consisting of the space segment, ground segment and mobile earth stations. The Inmarsat space segment consists of 4 satellites orbiting above the equator at the same rate as the rotation of the earth. The satellites remain stationary above the certain location of the earth. Each satellite orbits at an altitude of 35,700 km, allowing it to monitor 1/3 of the earth’s surface. The satellites work as repeater stations between the land earth stations (LESs) and mobile earth stations (MESs) on different channels for different services, Inmarsat-A, B, C, Mini-M, Fleet, etc.

FELCOM 82 Communication Unit
Essential Components Communication Unit IB-282 The communication unit incorporates RF and IF amplifiers, signal processing circuitry, voice coder/decoder (codec) which converts the talker’s voice to a digital signal and vice versa, interfaces for fax, radionav and gyro-compass, etc. Antenna tracking is done automatically after the initial setting of the compass is completed on this unit. The system program is contained in this unit.
Monitor Display (Terminal Unit) IB-582 This is a dedicated monitor designed by FURUNO for the Inmarsat system and narrow-band direct-printing system. It fully satisfies the EMC requirements set forth in IEC 60945. The 10.4" TFT color LCD display provides clear and non-glaring views with adjustable brightness for night and day use. The unit functions as a telex monitor terminal, as well as an interactive control for the Communication Unit IB-282. Data communications are operated at 9.6 kbps without needing an extra unit.
Quality communications for maritime, land mobile and fixed service Handset IB-882 This handset is supplied as a standard component of the INMARSAT. It permits direct calls to any telephone number on the national and international public switched telephone networks (PSTNs). After selecting an Ocean Region and a Coast Earth Station Code, the rest is as easy as using an ordinary telephone set. Re-dialing and abbreviated dialing are also available. Eight additional ports (optional Multi Communication Unit IB-782 required) are provided for telephone or facsimile and additional ID numbers. Calls received can be transferred to another telephone within the system, and they may be used as an intercom. The FELCOM 82B does not include a monitor/keyboard assembly; therefore this handset substitutes for the system setup.
Facsimile Machine This G3 fax machine is similar to those used in office environments. Up to 10 sheets of A4 or A5 size documents may be stacked in the automatic document feeder. Any compatible machine may be used without Inmarsat type test, but the user should be aware of National Regulations on EMC.
Printer PP-510 The PP-510 Inmarsat-approved printer is required for the Class 1 configuration. The PP-510 is a serial dot matrix impact printer; all incoming and outgoing telex messages are automatically printed.
Dedicated Distress Alert Units The dedicated distress alert units for telephone and telex operation, respectively, are used to initiate distress calls from where the ship is normally navigated, and other designated positions. They fully meet the relevant standards to protect against false alert transmission.

Antenna Unit IB-182 The radome contains a helix radiator with a 1 m parabolic reflector. Antenna stabilization is achieved by using the threeaxis active method as well as employing a quick response vertical gyroscope. This mechanism allows the antenna to keep pointing to an appropriate satellite during ship's movement and course changes. Connection between the electronic circuits on the turning section with the parabola and those on the fixed pedestal in the radome is made by an improved rotary joint. This arrangement eliminates antenna rewind, thereby ensuring uninterrupted communications during a course change of the vessel. Maximum attention is paid to the design of the antenna stabilizing mechanism and the supporting post. The layout is such that it allows an easy access to the major components in the radome for service personnel.
