All Rights Reserved. 3 Quick Start: Install the Calix Isolated Ground Kit Using the parts provided in the Calix Isolated Ground Kit, complete the procedures below to isolate the ground on a Calix C7 shelf mounted in an equipment rack. Calix Isolated Ground Kit contents y y y y y Isolated Ground Adaptor circuit board (1) #8 Phillips head screws (3) #12 Hex head screws with nylon shoulder washers (8) 1 x 14-inch mounting bracket isolator strips (2) 5-5/8-inch nylon tie wraps (4) To install the isolator strips on the shelf mounting brackets 1. Remove the paper backing from the isolator strips. 2. Place the adhesive side of an isolator strip against the rack side of each Calix C7 mounting bracket so that: y The holes on the isolator strip align with the holes on the bracket. y No part of the isolator strip extends past the edge of the bracket. 3. Lift the shelf to the desired height on the equipment rack, then insert one (1) #12 Hex head screw with nylon washer in the top hole on each side of the rack mounting space. Tighten both screws to secure the shelf. IMPORTANT: You must use only the #12 Hex head screws with nylon washers provided in the Calix Isolated Ground Kit to secure the shelf to the equipment rack. Other screws will compromise ground isolation. 4. Insert and tighten the remaining mounting screws. NOTE: Calix recommends using a minimum of 6 screws to secure the shelf to the rack. 5. With the Calix C7 shelf mounted in the rack, you can remove the Calix C7 Hardware Kit from the fan tray slot located on the front of the shelf. Gently slide the kit from the slot. 6. All Rights Reserved. 4 To install the isolated ground straps 1. Remove the power cover from the back of the Calix C7 shelf. 2. Carefully clip and remove the tie wraps that hold the ground and power cables to the Calix C7 chassis. 3. Remove the 4 screws holding the ground cable and jumper strap to the rear of the shelf, then slide the ground cable to the right. NOTE: Discard the jumper strap, but keep 2 of the 4 screws to re-mount the new ground strap. 4. Attach the isolated ground adaptor to the rear of the shelf using the screws provided in the Calix Isolated Ground Kit. NOTE: Loosely attach the screws in lugs 1, 2, and 4, then snug them down. 5. Re-attach the ground cable using the 2 screws saved in Step 3. 6. Re-secure the ground and power cables to the shelf with tie wraps. 7. Replace the power cover.
