1. Introduction This guide covers the installation of the BuildSoft software. The use of BuildSoft software requires the program ‘CodeMeter Control Centre’. CodeMeter Control Centre manages the licenses. Without CodeMeter Control Centre no licenses will be found and you won’t be able to start the software. You can find the installation files of CodeMeter Control Centre and the BuildSoft software on our website in the menu ‘Downloads’. BuildSoft licenses are delivered on a WiBu CODEMETER license dongle (
).
In order to conduct a complete and correct installation of the BuildSoft products, LOG IN AS ADMINISTRATOR. If necessary, add an exception to your anti-virus!

3.2.2. Diamonds, PowerConnect, BIM Expert Before going into detail on the installation procedure, you should know how Diamonds/ PowerConnect/ BIM Expert work. •
The section and material library of Diamonds/PowerConnect/BIM Expert is a database managed by an SQL instance. SQL Server is developed by Microsoft, not by BuildSoft. BuildSoft only uses its features.
Database containing section and material library
•
Gateway is a service providing the communication between Diamonds/ PowerConnect/ BIM Expert and the database of the section/material library.

The database does not necessarily has to be located locally on your computer. It can be stored on any computer in your network. The service ’Gateway Server’ makes it possible to access the database over network.

When you install Diamonds/ PowerConnect/ BIM Expert the services ‘Gateway’, ‘Gateway Server’ and an SQL instance need to be installed. • • •
When you run the setup of Diamonds/ PowerConnect/ BIM Expert, it will download the missing essential features (CodeMeter, .NET FrameWork, Gateway). No input will be required of you during the installation of CodeMeter and .NET FrameWork. During the installation of Gateway, you’ll be asked to configure an SQL Server instance: o Option 1: select an existing SQL instance. If you retrieve ‘(local)\SQLEXPRESS14’, select it and hit the button ‘Next >’. If you don’t, go to ‘Option 2’.
o
Option 2: When you don’t find ‘(local)\SQLEXPRESS14’ in the list or it doesn’t work properly, you’ll need to create a new SQL instance. Choose for ‘Install new SQL Server Express 2014 instance’ and give it a name, for example ‘SQLEXPRESS14BS’ (‘BS’ is short for BuildSoft). The length of the name is limited to 16 characters! The installation of SQL can take up to 30 minutes.

After the Gateway installation, Diamonds/PowerConnect or BIM Expert will be installed (depending on the installer you’re running). When you want to export files to Tekla structures, don’t forget to install the Tekla plug-in during the BIM Expert installation.

You will be asked for a username. This username will be used o to identify yourself when working with centrally managed libraries (see §5.4.1) o and/ or to identify yourself when exchanging files over network with BIM Expert (§5.4.2). The user suggested here, will be administrator of the Gateway system. No password will be assigned to this account during the installation (§5.2). Your Windows username is suggested, but you are free to change it. Even after installation you can change it (see §6.3). If you are not planning to use any of these features, the username is not important. Start Diamonds/PowerConnect or BIM Expert. The first time you start Diamonds / PowerConnect the databases will be loaded. This may take a while. The next start up will go faster.

Practical configurations
5.4.1. Centrally managed libraries Of all the stations in the network, choose 1 as SERVER STATION. This station does not have to be the file server, but can be any machine in the network. Important is that all users at all times have access to this computer. On the server station: • Start the software ‘Gateway Configuration Tool’ (All Programs Gateway Configuration Tool). • Add a user for each person that will be part of the network (§5.3.2). Don’t forget to save the changes . • Close the ‘Gateway Configuration Tool’. • Remember the IP address of this machine (§6.2).
