Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the preset buttons. 5. Remove the under-hood fuse/relay box: • Remove the cover. • Remove the two cables (one bolt each). 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. • Unplug the 3-pin connector. • Remove the mounting bolt, and release the two locks. 3. Locate the fog light opening in the front grille. Using the measurements shown, mark the driver’s side and the passenger’s side of the grille. UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX COVER • Driver’s side 3-PIN CONNECTOR MOUNTING BOLTS Cut out. 20 mm 12 mm LOCK Remove all burrs using a utility knife. UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX Cut out. • Passenger’s side To release, push the locking tabs in the direction shown. 20 mm 12 mm 4. Using a utility knife, cut out the bumper at each marked area. Turn over the under-hood fuse/relay box, and remove the cable protector. UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX 11. Lift the battery positive terminal cover, and route the terminal of the fusible link through the terminal cover; then install the terminal to the battery cable with the nut provided. Tighten the nut securely. FUSIBLE LINK CABLE PROTECTOR 10-PIN CONNECTOR WIRE TIE NUT BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE 10-PIN CONNECTOR of VEHICLE HARNESS Route outside of the cable protector cover with the connector cover pointing down. FOG LIGHT SWITCH HARNESS 7. Unplug the 10-pin connector of the vehicle harness from the under-hood fuse/relay box; then connect one 10-pin connector from harness C into the under-hood fuse/relay box, and connect the other 10-pin connector to the connector you just unplugged. 12.Lift the coolant reservoir up out of the bracket, and move it out of the way. 8. Secure the fog light switch harness to the vehicle harness with a wire tie in the area shown. 9. Reinstall the cable protector. 10.Get the fusible link and the nut from the kit. RESERVOIR BRACKET COOLANT RESERVOIR 4 of 14 AII 18331 (9610)  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved 13.Get a wire tie with connector clip from the kit, and attach it to the battery positive cable as shown. 14.Route harness C forward along the vehicle harness on the right side of the engine compartment to the right headlight. 15.Reinstall the under-hood fuse/relay box. 16.Connect the 1-pin connector of the fusible link into the 1-pin connector of harness C. 17.Press the clip of the wire tie with connector clip into the 1-pin connector of harness C; then attach the wire tie to the battery positive cable. UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX WIRE TIE with connector clip FUSIBLE LINK 1-PIN CONNECTORS HARNESS C HARNESS C CONDENSER PIPE Route harness C under the condenser pipe. 18.Attach the relay bracket to the relay with the washer-bolt and the flange nut. RELAY BRACKET FLANGE NUT RELAY WASHER-BOLT  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved AII 18331 (9610) 5 of 14 19.Connect the relay connector of harness C to the relay. 20.Press the tab on the fuse case of harness C into the hole in the clip of the wire tie with connector clip; then attach the wire tie to the relay as shown. 23.Remove the battery holder nut, and install the relay bracket assembly onto the battery holder rod. Reinstall the battery holder nut, position the relay in the direction shown, and tighten the nut securely. BATTERY HOLDER ROD 21.Clean the fuse case, and attach the fuse label to the side of the fuse case. WIRE TIE 24.Place the coolant reservoir back into its bracket. VEHICLE HARNESS HARNESS C 6 of 14 AII 18331 (9610)  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved Installing Harness B 25.Remove the three front splash shield mount bolts. 29.Get the ground bolt from the kit; locate the nut welded to the back of the front cross member. HARNESS B SPLASH SHIELD MOUNT BOLTS GROUND TERMINAL 26.Route harness B along the front cross member. Press the two clips on harness B into the holes in the cross member. HARNESS C 4-PIN CONNECTOR HARNESS B 4-PIN CONNECTOR WIRE TIE with connector clip NUT WELDED ON CROSS MEMBER GROUND BOLT 30.Attach the ground terminal on harness B to the cross member using the ground bolt through the welded nut. Tighten the bolt securely. HARNESS C HORN HARNESS WIRE TIE HARNESS B HARNESS B CLIP 27.Secure harness B to the horn harness with three wire ties in the areas shown. 28.Connect the 4-pin connector on harness C to the 4-pin connector on harness B; then secure harness B with one wire tie with connector clip.  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved AII 18331 (9610) 7 of 14 Installing Harness A 31.Remove the dashboard lower cover (three bolts, seven clips, and one connector). 33.Route the 3-pin connector of harness A into the engine compartment. Without Security System Options: • Turn over the floor carpet under the dashboard on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, and remove the insulator by first removing a breakaway section of the insulator as indicated by the slits. Then, remove the grommet concealed under the insulator from the bulkhead. GROMMET DASH LIGHTS BRIGHTNESS CONNECTOR CLIP DASHBOARD LOWER COVER BOLTS 32.Remove the knee bolster (four bolts). DASH INSULATOR • From the passenger compartment, route the KNEE BOLSTER 3-pin connector of harness A through the hole in the bulkhead and into the engine compartment. Apply a small amount of silicone sealant to the grommet; then seat the grommet on the wire harness into the hole in the bulkhead. BOLTS BULKHEAD HOLE 3-PIN CONNECTOR HARNESS A GROMMET 8 of 14 AII 18331 (9610)  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved With Security System Options: • Inside the engine compartment, remove the 34.Remove the switch hole lid from the instrument panel. wire ties securing the security system options wire harness. • Inside the passenger compartment, remove the wire ties securing the security system options wire harness. • Pull the grommet of the security system options wire harness out of the bulkhead and into the passenger compartment. Using a utility knife, carefully cut the grommet. • Do not damage the instrument panel surface. • If necessary, before removing the switch hole lid, use a flat-tip screwdriver to remove the hazard switch. SWITCH HOLE LID HAZARD SWITCH 5 PIN CONNECTOR Cut this area. FOG LIGHT SWITCH GROMMET INSTRUMENT PANEL SECURITY SYSTEM HARNESS HARNESS A GROMMET ON HARNESS A HARNESS A Install with the slit facing down. STEERING HANGER BEAM • From the passenger compartment, route the 3-pin connector of harness A into the engine compartment through the hole in the bulkhead. • Inside the passenger compartment, carefully cut and remove the rubber grommet from harness A. • Pull the 3-pin connector through the security system harness grommet until the tube ends of both harnesses meet. With the slit in the grommet facing down, wrap electrical tape around both sides of the grommet. • Apply a small amount of silicone sealant to the grommet; then seat the grommet on the wire harnesses into the hole in the bulkhead.  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved 35.Route the 8-pin connector of harness A up and out through the switch hole in the instrument panel. 36.Plug the 8-pin connector into the fog light switch, then install the switch in the instrument panel. AII 18331 (9610) 9 of 14 37.Secure harness A to the vehicle harness with four wire ties in the areas shown. VEHICLE HARNESS 38.Reinstall the knee bolster. 39.Unplug the 3-pin connector from the dash lights brightness controller, and connect the 3-pin connectors of harness A between the 3-pin connector you just unplugged and the dash lights brightness controller. 3-PIN CONNECTOR of HARNESS A 3-PIN CONNECTOR 3-PIN CONNECTOR of HARNESS A HARNESS A DASHBOARD LOWER COVER DASH LIGHTS BRIGHTNESS CONTROLLER WIRE TIE HARNESS A VEHICLE HARNESS 40.Route harness A toward the front along the driver’s side of the engine compartment. Installing the Fog Lights 43.Press the four grommets into the fog light brackets. R: Right side L: Left side VEHICLE HARNESS SCREW GROMMETS FOG LIGHT BRACKET L HARNESS A FOG LIGHT BRACKET WIRE TIE 42.Connect the 3-pin connector of harness A to the 3-pin connector of harness B; then secure harness A to harness B with one wire tie with connector clip. 44.Position the left and right fog light brackets on the front bumper, and install the four self-tapping screws. To ease installation, twist bracket L in the direction shown. FOG LIGHT BRACKET FOG LIGHT BRACKET L Twist toward you. HARNESS A HARNESS B 3-PIN CONNECTOR SELF-TAPPING SCREWS WIRE TIE WITH CONNECTOR CLIP  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved 45.Connect the 2-pin connector of harness B to the 2-pin connector from the fog light; then secure the connectors to bracket R with the connector clip. AII 18331 (9610) 11 of 14 46.Position the left and right fog lights, and install the three washer-screws. Press the socket bolt cap over the head of the outer washer-screw. Check the identity marks on the surface of the right and left fog lights. Fog Light Aiming 47.Adjust the fog lights: • Adjust the aiming according to local laws and regulations. • To adjust, turn the aiming adjustment screw in 2-PIN CONNECTOR or out until the correct aiming is obtained. AIMING ADJUSTMENT SCREW 2-PIN CONNECTORS WASHERSCREWS To raise To lower FOG LIGHT SOCKET BOLT CAP WASHERSCREW 48.Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 49.Reinstall all removed parts. 50.Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 51.Enter the customer’s radio anti-theft code, and reset the radio station presets. 52.Reset the clock. 53.Put these instructions in the glove box for your customer. 12 of 14 AII 18331 (9610)  1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved 1. Remove the socket bolt cap from the outer washer-bolt. USE AND CARE How to Operate Fog Lights • Turn the light switch to the “on” position AIMING ADJUSTMENT SCREW (headlights on low beam). CONNECTORS • Press the fog light switch (pilot indicator is on). • If the fog lights don’t come on, check the fuse 5 mm WASHER-BOLTS and all the connectors, including the ground cable and the fusible link. The fog light lenses can cloud when the outside temperature is cold; this is normal and should go away in warm weather. LIGHT SWITCH 5 mm WASHERBOLT INDICATOR SOCKET BOLT CAP SCREW COVER BULB SOCKET Unplug. FOG LIGHT SWITCH BULB 2. Remove the three washer-bolts using a 4 mm Allen wrench. Do not touch the aiming adjustment screw. Bulb/Lens Replacement NOTE: • Use only a Genuine Honda halogen light bulb of specified wattage. • Do not touch the bulb. Oily or greasy substances on the bulb can shorten its service life due to the heat produced when the bulb is turned on. If the bulb is accidentally touched, wipe it clean using a clean, soft cloth that has been dampened with denatured alcohol or a mild detergent solution. 3. Pull the fog light toward you, and unplug the fog light harness connectors. 4. Remove the cover from the fog light by removing the four screws. 5. Release the retaining spring, and unplug the terminals. Remove the bulb and socket assembly from the fog light. 6. Install a new bulb in the reverse order of removal. 7. Reinstall the fog light lens.
