Installation Instructions CinePanel kits are simple acoustical treatment solutions for home theaters. The kits are based on scientifically designed building blocks of absorber/diffuser pairs. Each kit is based on room size and is calculated to provide optimal reverberation and diffusion characteristics. The Absorber core is made of mineral wool clad in a fiberglass lining. CINEPANEL Absorber
CINEPANEL Diffuser
The Diffuser core is made of low-resonance styrene.
Panel Installation The panels are hung from the walls using attachments delivered with each kit. Please contact PMI immediately if you are missing any of the attachment devices. The bottom of the panels should be two feet above the floor. Start with the Diffuser panels. Hanging the panels: • Position the panels based on the applicable placement diagram (shown on pages 2-4). IMPORTANT: SEE PAGE 2 FOR TIPS ON OPTIMIZING PANEL LOCATIONS AND FOR INFO ON “PLUS” CEILING PANELS • Locate the bottom edge of the panel two feet up from the floor. • Mark the wall location for the panel. • Fasten a V-Bar 64" from the floor onto the wall using either drywall screws into studs, or using wallboard inserts and screws, or using other appropriate fasteners. Use a bubble level to ensure the V-Bar is level. • Orient the panels so that the wedge form matches what the placement diagram shows. • Hang the panels on the V-Bars.

Optimizing the Panel Locations (refer to diagram below) The placement diagrams in this installation guide can only approximate the characteristics of your room. For best results, before installing the panels, ensure that you have placed a panel at all the “first reflection” points. You can find these by using a mirror. While seated at your listening position, have someone else walk along the walls holding the mirror. Where you can see a speaker in the mirror is a first reflection point. For any of the front speakers Diffuser
Absorber
there will be a first reflection point on the side walls, back wall, and ceiling. For the left speaker, treat primarily the left and rear wall reflections. For the right speakers, treat the right and rear walls. For the center speaker, treat the ceiling and rear wall reflection. Don’t be concerned about the front wall reflections (the wall behind the speakers) because only low frequencies radiate in that direction from the speakers, and the CinePanel units, like most other similar treatments, are designed to work in the mid and high frequencies.

Use “Plus” Panels to Treat Ceiling Reflections Ceiling Reflections: Researchers in the field of Acoustics have found that ceiling reflections are detrimental to good sound reproduction. We recommend applying absorption panels on the ceiling at the first reflection locations from the front speakers. The CinePanel “Plus” kits include these panels. Locate them using the mirror trick mentioned above. The ceiling panels incorporate cable loops to facilitate hanging. Install hooks (not supplied) in the ceiling at appropriate locations for the loops. The panels should end up hanging a few inches from the ceiling; the air gap improves their acoustic performance.
Panel Placement Diagrams The five kits are designed based on room size and each should be laid out according to the applicable placement diagram. See “Optimizing the Panel Locations” (above) for additional guidance. Room Size
