AI-VC-200-x Installation Manual AI-VC-200-x VGA to Composite Video Converter 1.0 General Information 1.1 Introduction This manual contains information for the proper installation of the Audio International, Inc. (AI) VGA (via Panelink™ interface) to Composite Video Converter, AI-VC-200-x. The “-x” in the model number designates the type of connector utilized in installation; “-1” = Positronic and “-2” = D-Subminiature. Also included are physical and electrical characteristics of the unit. 1.2 Purpose of the Equipment 1.2.1 The AI-VC-200-x video converter module is a unit that is used to convert a VGA input signal (provided via a Panelink™ interface) to an NTSC format composite video output signal. This device accepts only one VGA video source input signal and provides only one converted video source output signal, 1 V(p-p), for routing to video distribution devices and display equipment. 1.2.2 The VGA (Panelink™) input signal is derived via an output connector on AI’s AI-ECU-03-x, LCD touch screen control module. Via the AI-ECU-03-x interface, both the VGA signal and associated audio signals are routed to the AI-VC-200-x module. The VGA signal is converted as described above, and the associated audio signals are routed through the AI-VC-200-x module for convenience. 1.2.3 The purpose of the AI-VC-200-x module is to allow for distribution of a broadcast Audio/Video-On-Demand (A/VOD) signal for use with cabin audio and video distribution. The A/VOD signal is streamed over an Ethernet network using MPEG compression. The AI-ECU-03-x module converts the MPEG compression to separate VGA and audio signal outputs which are then routed via the AI-VC-200-x module to the proper audio and video system distribution modules. 1.2.4 The AI-VC-200-x is an active device that requires only power, ground and video connections. A video gain adjustment potentiometer is located on the top of the unit. The potentiometer allows for level adjustment of video output signal. These products provide convenient solutions for a variety of frequently encountered interfacing needs or special requirements and are an important part of AI’s “building block” system for configuring total cabin management. Contact your AI representative for details. 2.0 Application 2.1 Introduction 2.1.1 The AI-VC-200-x provides automatic conversion of VGA video input, via PanelLink interface, into NTSC composite output. Video input signal is supplied via P2 power and audio inputs via P3. Output signals are directed through P1. P2 and P3 connect to AI’s Electronic Control Unit (AI-ECU-03-x). 2.1.2 Stereo audio input to the unit allows audio output without any modifications or distortions. The AI-VC-200-x is an active device that requires only power, ground and video connections. 2.1.3 A video gain adjustment screw is located on the top of the unit. This gain adjustment screw allows for level adjustment of video output signal. Level may be adjusted between 750 mV to 1.5 V(p-p) . The factory setting is 1 V(p-p) . To increase the level video output, turn the screw in a clockwise direction. To decrease, turn the screw in a counter-clockwise direction. 2.2 Block Diagram – Typical Application Document # 540193, Rev B, 04/2001 Page 4 of 11 Audio International, Inc. 3.0 AI-VC-200-x Installation Manual Installation 3.1 Prior to Installation Before installation, the following items should be considered: 3.1.1 During the design and layout of the aircraft cabin, careful consideration of the location of this module is necessary. Some of the items to be considered include: • • • • • • • • Space Proximity to other devices (i.e. source equipment) Available power supply Length of cable runs Environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) Location of other aircraft systems (i.e. oxygen delivery) Access for service repair (if applicable) Convenience for user interface (if applicable) 3.1.2 The AI-VC-200-x shall be installed to conform to the standards designated by the customer, installing agency, and existing conditions as to the unit location and type of installation. 3.1.4 Mounting screws are required to secure the unit. Refer to Section 6.0, Reference Drawings, for mounting hole diameters and configuration. 3.2 Unpacking and Inspection 3.2.1 Carefully open the packaging and remove the unit. Verify that all components have been included in the package per the packing list. Inspect the unit for damage. Retain the packing materials and packing list. 3.2.2 If damage has occurred during shipping, a claim must be filed with AI within 24 hours and a “Return Request Authorization Number” shall be obtained from AI. Refer to the front cover of this manual for address and telephone number of Audio International. Repackage the unit in its original packaging materials and return it to AI following instructions given by the AI representative. If no return is necessary, retain the packing materials for storage or reshipment if necessary. Ensure that power and ground are applied only where specified. Damage to the unit may result if power or ground is applied to the wrong points. 3.3.2 Wire bundle length for P2 and P3 connectors must remain as provided (10" pigtail ±1"). Increase and/or addition to wire bundle length of P2 and P3 is NOT permitted. 3.3.3 DO NOT connect or disconnect the module while power is applied. 3.3.4 DO NOT remove any factory-installed screws. Damage to the units may result and void any warranties. 3.3.5 NO scheduled maintenance is required to ensure airworthiness. 3.3.6 ESD (Electro Static Discharge) guidelines shall be followed. 3.4 Wiring Requirements 3.4.1 Introduction The installing agency shall supply and fabricate all external cables and mating connectors. The length and routing of external cables must be carefully studied and planned before attempting installation of the equipment. Allow adequate space for installation of cable and connectors. Avoid sharp bends and placing cables near aircraft control cables. Maintain a MINIMUM clearance of three (3) inches from any control cable. If wiring is run parallel to combustible fluid or oxygen lines, maintain a separation of six (6) inches between the lines. Document # 540193, Rev B, 04/2001 Page 6 of 11 Audio International, Inc. AI-VC-200-x Installation Manual 3.4.2 Power Wires All power and ground wires shall be 24 AWG, MINIMUM. Power ground wires shall be grounded within twelve inches of the unit. All wires shall be in accordance with the standard military specification of MIL-W-22759 or equivalent. Twisted shielded cable shall be in accordance with the standard military specification of MIL-DTL-27500 or equivalent. Protect power wires with circuit breakers or fuses located close to the electrical power source bus. 3.4.3 Video Lines All video lines require coaxial cable with the cable shields properly grounded. 3.5 Physical Characteristics 3.5.1 Refer to Section 5.0 for unit dimensions. 3.5.2 Refer to Section 6.0 for attachment points. 3.5.3 When mounting the unit, allow sufficient space for mating connectors. 3.6 Electrical Characteristics 3.6.1 Electrical Specifications Electrical Specifications 150 mA nominal at +28VDC Power 300mA maximum at +28 VDC Operating Voltage +18 to +32 VDC Range 3.6.2 The AI-VC-200-x has two (2) video connectors located on the rear of the unit (P2 and P3). P2 is a 35-pin connector that connects to the Electronic Control Unit and provides video signals. P3 is a 9-pin connector that connects to the Electronic Control Unit and provides power, ground, and audio input. The 12" pigtail shall remain as provided for P2 and P3.
