Equipment 71 ROOM STATION The S1-R Room Station differs from the previous VR102 Room Station in the following areas: ƒ Digital Volume Control The room stations are now fitted with a digital volume control which is adjusted by pressing and holding, or repeated pressing, the volume "+" or volume "-" buttons. On power up, the volume automatically reverts to the default 50% position. When adjusting the volume, the volume level is indicated by an audible tone that sounds while the volume is being adjusted. If desired, this audible tone can be disabled by shifting the jumper "JMP1" on the room station PCB to the "DISABLE" position. ƒ Microphone Gain Microphone gain is now fixed however the gain can be decreased if required, by cutting the link "LNK1" on the room station PCB. This eliminates the surface mount pots which were difficult to adjust, difficult to gauge and generally rarely used. ƒ Back Housing Room stations are now available in either surface mount or recess mount versions allowing for greater flexibility of installation. The recessed portion of the new recessed back box now measures only 28mm as opposed to 72mm on the previous VR102 model. ƒ Fascias Room Stations are supplied without fascias and the fascias are supplied separately in packs of ten. Where previously, complete room stations had to be stocked in various colours, now the number of room stations being stocked can be reduced and it is only the fascias that need to be stocked in the various colours. (White, Ivory & Black) ƒ Keymat In addition to having the extra two keys for Volume Up and Volume Down, the button formally marked as "8" but used to activate the lock output, is now marked with the symbol of a Key. 72  Room StatioN aSSEmbly DOOR STATION The S1-FD Front Door Station differs from the previous VF103 Door Station in the following aspects: ƒ Models Two models available in two different colours S1-FDC......With 130 deg colour camera S1-FD.........Without camera Colours at this stage are Bronze or Silver (both with charcoal inserts) ƒ Wiring - With Camera 6 wires required as per previous VF103 model but with extra coax from door station to master for video image. Using a seventh wire between "LK-" terminal at door station and "TC2" terminal at master allows for automatic activation of display at master when the Door Bell button is pressed. (If seventh wire is not available, display activation will only occur when the master initiates communication with the door station) The door station with camera is supplied with a two way depluggable terminal block, a shielded lead with BNC socket and a crimp type BNC plug. These are for connecting the video coax. The 2-way terminal block plugs onto the header "TB3" on the door station PCB. The BNC lead assembly is to be wired to the terminal block. The crimp style BNC plug is crimped to the door station end of the video coax and then coupled to the BNC socket on the BNC lead assembly. 73  ƒ Options The door station has two white light LEDs which provide subject lighting for the camera when the Door Bell button has been pressed or when communication is received by the door station. The Subject Lighting LEDs can be disabled if desired, by removing the link labelled "CAM LIGHT" on the door station PCB. (This link would also normally be removed on the non-camera version) Please note that the standard house light at the front door can either enhance or detract from the video image depending on its position. The subject lighting that comes with the door station is only low level lighting that allows for an image to be seen at night however the image quality will not be as good as daylight or correctly positioned high level lighting. ƒ Mounting Orientation By rotating the front plastic insert, PCB and camera, the door station can be configured for vertical installation catering for special installations or personal preference of the customer. ƒ Speaker The speaker fitted to the S1-FD and S1-FDC Door Stations has a mylar cone for outdoor conditions. ƒ Microphone Gain Microphone gain is now fixed however the gain can be decreased if required, by cutting the link "LNK1" on the door station PCB. This eliminates the surface mount pots which were difficult to adjust, difficult to gauge and generally rarely used. ƒ Back Housing Door stations are supplied with recess mount back boxes however the same surface mount back boxes used on the room stations, can be obtained separately to allow for surface mount installation of door stations. ƒ Fascias Unlike Room Stations, Door Stations are supplied complete with fascias. This is because stock levels for door stations are less of an issue than for room stations as only one or two are generally used per system and there are only two colour variations available. 74  DESKTOP STATION The S1-DT Desktop Station is a new addition to the product range based on the S1-R Room Station but with the following differences. ƒ Situation Designed to sit on a desktop rather than being wall mounted. ƒ Auxiliary Audio Input This unit has an auxiliary audio input at the rear of the unit for listening to personal music from MP3 player or PC. The Desktop Station can be used as a direct replacement for computer speakers allowing for a less cluttered computer work area, while still being able to hear audio from the computer in addition to being in touch with the front door and the rest of the house. There is a switch at the rear of the unit, which allows selection of audio, either from the input jack or from music being played throughout the rest of the house. Installation involves fitting a wall plate with an RJ45 socket to the wall in proximity to Desktop Station Location. Use RJ45 straight-through patch lead of appropriate length to connect desktop station to wall plate. Use audio lead with stereo 3.5mm plug for the auxiliary input on the desktop station. ƒ Wiring Solid core Cat5 cable should be wired to RJ45 wall plate using the T568A standard. The other end of the cat 5 cable should be wired back to the master as follows: POS........................ GREEN / WHITE NEG....................... GREEN TC.......................... ORANGE / WHITE VLC........................ ORANGE COM1..................... BLUE / WHITE COM2..................... BLUE MUS1..................... BROWN / WHITE MUS2..................... BROWN NOTE: If Valet cable is used to wire to the RJ45 wall plate, it must be pointed out that the IDC connections on the RJ45 jack are designed to work best with solid core wire. The two shielded wires on Valet Cable are stranded and may not provide a reliable connection.  75 MASTER STATION The S1P Master Station differs from the previous VM102 in the following respects: ƒ Models Two models are available S1P-MV........ with LCD display S1P-M.......... without LCD display One colour available at this stage (white) ƒ AM/FM Radio The radio is very similar to the one used on the previous VM102 Master except that this one is a single two pcb module where the previous consisted of two separate PCBs connected by a lead and adaptor PCB. The sleep function has now been replaced with an alarm function that allows the radio to turn on at a predetermined time. Alarm Operation - Press "POWER" button to turn radio on. - Select desired band and radio frequency. - Press "POWER" button again to turn radio off. - Press "ALARM" button - Alarm Icon and Alarm Time flashing. - Set Alarm Time using "UP" button for hours and "DOWN" button for minutes. - When flashing stops, normal time and alarm icon are displayed. - Radio will automatically turn on at programmed time. - Press "POWER" button to turn radio off. ƒ Back Housing The plastic back box has been modified to suit the new plastic front. The front hooks over the two top supports and clips into position with the two lower clips situated on the lower left and lower right of the wall box. The plastic back box is fastened to the same wooden wall box as used for the VM102 model but is secured by two screws on the left and two screws on the right rather than top and bottom as done previously. 76  ƒ Video Display The S1P-MV is equipped with an LCD display that will accept a video image from the built-in door station camera or a remote camera (PAL) near the door station. The display will activate when ever communication is initiated to the door station. The duration of the video image is 20 seconds from when the door talk button is last released. If the "CH" terminal at the door station has been wired to the TC2 terminal at the master, the camera will also activate whenever the chime button has been pressed at the door station. ƒ Using The Display For Alternative Video Source It is possible to use the Video display to view video from an alternative source such as TV tuner, DVD player or camera used for monitoring either inside or outside the house. To do this, the video/lock control PCB located top right in the back housing would have to be replaced by a standard Auxiliary Output PCB. The purple wire soldered to the VLC terminal on the underside of the large connection PCB would have to be moved from the VLC terminal to the AUX terminal. Output 1 on the Auxiliary output board would need to be configured to Toggle mode. The Video signal would be wired with coax or video lead to the BNC connector on the video input lead. The Video display is then activated and deactivated by pressing the "AUX" button followed by the programmed number for Output 1 on the Auxiliary output PCB. If audio is required, as in the case of a TV tuner or DVD player, the audio output of the device would be connected to the intercom system by means of an Auxiliary Input Jack - Type B. The audio signal is activated and deactivated by pressing the music button. ƒ Wiring Wiring for the S1 Intercom system remains unchanged from the previous version except that the colour coding for Cat5 cable will now be as per the table in the section of this document covering the desktop station. The TC2 terminal is now used as an Enable input for the Video Display where previously it was used for the voice annunciation feature of the wireless security option (Connects to "CH" output at door station) Video transmission is by means of 75 ohm coax with crimp style BNC connectors fitted at both ends. The BNC connector crimps onto the end of the coax lead. This BNC plug connects to the BNC end of the 450mm video lead supplied with the master. The RCA end of this lead plugs into the yellow Video Input on the Video control PCB on the inside of the master fascia. 77  ƒ Digital Volume Control The master is now fitted with a digital volume control with optional audible feedback to indicate volume level. See Room Station section for further detail. ƒ Microphone Gain As per Room Station See Room Station section for further detail. ƒ Lock Control A lock output terminal is available at the door station as per the previous version however additionally, a set of 2 amp dry relay contacts, labelled "Relay 2," are also available at the master on the video/lock control PCB located top right in the master back housing. Both lock outputs (Master & Door) are activated for 3 seconds when the Lock Button is pressed at any station. The Normally Open contacts of the above mentioned "Relay 2" at the master can be wired directly across the input on most automatic gates. Alternatively, the contacts can be used to switch power to an electric lock having a coil resistance of greater (but not less) than 7 ohm (@14VDC). ƒ Keymat As with the room station, the master has an extra two keys for Volume Up and Volume Down and the button formally marked as "8" which is used to activate the lock output, is now marked with the symbol of a key.
