Installing a Linksys Wireless Notebook Adapter in Windows XP Do not connect the Linksys notebook adapter to your computer until after you complete the software installation. Note: Do not use the Setup Wizard shipped with the notebook card. It is used only for earlier versions of Windows. Installing the notebook adapter: Note: The screens may vary slightly from those presented below, depending on when you purchased your USB adapter and what version of the setup wizard it includes. 1. Turn off your notebook computer. 2. Slide the notebook adapter card with the label side up into the PC Card slot. 3. Restart your notebook computer. 4. Windows XP will detect your new hardware. Insert the Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive. 5. Select Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click Next. 6. If a window displays and refers to the compatibility with Windows XP, click Continue Anyway. 7. Click Finish when Windows has finished installing the driver. Double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon that displays in the bottom right taskbar after you have installed the PC Card. 9. Select Allow me to connect to the selected wireless network, even though it is not secure and select Connect. • Note: This screen displays only if you have not previously enabled security for your home network. If your network connection is active, an icon displays in the lower right taskbar.
