Installation types Before you begin installing AliasStudio, you must decide which type of installation you will use. Local installation In a local installation, the AliasStudio software and a license are on a local computer. A single user at this machine can run AliasStudio. ■ One computer ■ install software (Installing procedures on page 11) ■ install license, if required (Licensing Windows on page 19) In this type of installation a node-locked license is used. It enables you to run AliasStudio on one particular computer. This computer must have an Ethernet ID or hardware lock. License server installation In a license server installation, the AliasStudio software is installed on multiple client computers and the licenses and the application server software are installed on a server. 2 | Part 1 Installing AliasStudio ■ ■ One Server ■ install AliasStudio utilities (recommended as these tools have been updated). ■ install AliasStudio licenses, if required (Licensing Windows on page 19). Many users ■ install AliasStudio software (see Installing procedures on page 11) For this installation a floating license is used. It allows anyone on the network to use the licensed software, on as many machines as you have purchased licenses for. For example, if you install five licenses on your server, up to five machines on the network can run the licensed software at any one time. You choose one machine on your network to act as the server for these licenses. This server machine needs either an Ethernet ID or a hardware lock. All other machines must be able to connect to and receive their license from this server. |3 4 System requirements 1 Verify if your computer is qualified to run AliasStudio. Determining your system’s configuration To determine your system configuration 1 Choose Start > Run, type winmsd, and press Enter. to open the System Information window. 2 Click on the System Summary to view information about the version and memory. 3 Click on Components and then Display to view information about the monitor. 4 Click on Storage and then Drives and SCSI to view information on the drive or disk space available. To install the Japanese or Simplified Chinese documentation (not available on all installation DVDs), use the documentation installer or unzip the files into a location where you want the help system to be accessed. Use the pathname (without the terminal slash) to link the documentation to AliasStudio by putting this information in Preferences > General preferences under the System tab. The pathname must be prefixed by file:/// for example, file:///C:/Program Files/Autodesk /AliasStudio2009/Help IE Settings for Windows XP SP2 6 | Chapter 1 System requirements To run the new AliasStudio help system, computers that have been updated with XP Service Pack 2 need to have some settings changed. Changes to default security settings are made when an upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 is performed. These changes can result in unexpected popup messages requiring you to explicitly allow the help system to be viewed. When you first open the online help system, you’ll get the following message: ■ To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. You can then click for the option to Allow Blocked Content. If this is done, you’ll receive a Security Warning that says: Allowing active content such as script and ActiveX controls can be useful, but active content might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? To allow this content to run without getting blocked, please follow the following steps: 1 Open Internet Explorer 2 Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab 3 Scroll down to the section labeled Security 4 Check the box labeled “Allow active content to run in files on My Computer” 5 Click “OK” and then close the Internet Options window. ■ Install the Flash plug-in to view animated tutorial sequences in your browser. Free plug-ins are available from http://www.flash.com. ■ installing Adobe Acrobat version 6.0 or higher is required to view the PDFs. A free copy of this application can be downloaded from http://www.acrobat.com System requirements for StudioViewer Autodesk certifies certain system configurations from leading manufacturers of Windows workstations and graphics card vendors. Not all hardware configurations are qualified at this time. For more detailed hardware requirements and qualified configurations, please refer to the Qualification Hardware Charts for Alias products at http://www.autodesk.com/qual-charts. The minimum system requirements for running StudioViewer are: ■ TCP network connection. |7 ■ Windows XP Professional with SP2 or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition with SP2 ■ Pentium III or 4 processor, at least 500 MHz ■ 1GB of hard drive space ■ 1GB Memory (2GB or more highly recommended) ■ A CD-ROM drive on this machine or a shared CD-ROM drive accessed via a networked mapped drive. ■ ATI FireGL or Nvidia Quadro FX graphics card with 128MB video memory (256MB or greater video memory highly recommended). A list of supported graphics cards is available at http://www.autodesk.com/qual-charts . Setting system hardware properties The performance of AliasStudio in displaying graphics depends on the quality of your graphics card and on the option settings in the Display Properties window of your graphics card. To learn the option settings for graphics cards that are certified for use with AliasStudio, see the latest qualification chart, at http://www.autodesk.com/qual-charts. If your graphics card is not certified, perform the following steps. Some of these steps offer only general guidelines because each manufacturer has a unique set of display options. To set up your graphics card 1 Right-mouse click a blank part of your Windows desktop and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. This displays the Display Properties window, also available through the Control Panel. 2 Click the Settings tab. 3 From the Color Palette pull-down menu, choose True Color. This specifies 24 bits of color for best color quality in displayed images. 4 Drag the Desktop Area slider to the best display resolution supported by your hardware. 5 When the driver software for your graphics card was installed, a tab named for the card was likely created in the Display Properties window. The tab has performance options that vary with the kind of card. Here are some general suggestions for setting performance options: In the Display Properties window, click the tab named for your graphics card, if there is one. 8 | Chapter 1 System requirements AliasStudio works with four-bit or greater overlay planes, whether they are single-buffered or double-buffered. 6 Click Apply, then OK. 7 Some graphics cards have a AliasStudio OpenGL preset. Check the qualification charts at http://www.autodesk.com/qual-charts for information regarding setting up your video card. To set up your mouse and keyboard The mouse buttons should be set as follows: 1 left mouse button: click 2 middle mouse button: middle mouse button 3 right button: contextual menu/right mouse button To check or set the mouse buttons, go to the Windows Start menu and choose Settings > Control Panel > Mouse. Use standard mouse driver option settings. Do not, for example, set the middle mouse button to work as a double-click of the left button. Some vendors offer Windows enhancement software that lets you use your mouse to activate windows and panels in the same way as in UNIX operating systems. For example, you can download an XMouse productivity tool from microsoft.com to simulate UNIX mouse-window activation. However, we have not tested such software for use with AliasStudio for Windows. A wheel mouse (such as Microsoft Intellimouse) should operate as a 3-button mouse. If not, re-configure it in your Windows Control Panel (choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mouse). You do not need to install a new driver. |9 10 Installing procedures 2 Learn how to install the AliasStudio software, online documentation, and courseware. Before you begin: checklist You must run the installer on each computer where you want to run the software. If you’re going to use a computer to serve licenses, you must install the License utilities on that computer. Issue Required action Your computer system must meet specific hardware and software requirements for you to successfully install and run AliasStudio. Autodesk does not support hardware and software configurations that do not meet these requirements. Review the requirements section in this chapter (System requirements on page 5). The most up-to-date information on specific hardware system qualifications for your computer can be found on the Autodesk Web site: http://www.autodesk.com/qual-charts You must have administrator privileges to install AliasStudio. (You do not need to be an administrator to launch AliasStudio after it has been installed.) If you do not have administrator privileges on your computer, you need to contact your system administrator. To avoid any conflicts when installing AliasStudio, we recommend that you close all other programs and disable virus detection software before launching the installer. Before installing:Close all programs.Disable any virus detection software. 11 Issue Required action Having multiple versions of AliasStudio installed on a machine and adding each version’s path to the user’s environment PATH variable may cause version conflicts. Only add the path currently needed for the version of AliasStudio that is being run. Under most circumstances AliasStudio performs correctly if the path is not set. Installing AliasStudio software The AliasStudio DVD has an installation program that guides you through installation. ■ Your user account needs administrator privileges, or you need to log on as administrator. ■ Install AliasStudio on each computer where you want to run it. ■ You can install from a local DVD drive or from a shared DVD drive accessed via a network mapped drive. ■ If you are upgrading from an older version, the installation proceeds as normal. If you do not plan to install and run the AliasStudio software on the server machine, go to: ■ Setting up floating servers without installing the software on page 25 Introduction What licensing does... A license is a coded record of your software purchase. The license resides in a license file on your machine. 19 When you need a license You must go through the process of obtaining and installing a license if: ■ You are installing AliasStudio for the first time ■ You are upgrading AliasStudio from an older version ■ You are relocating AliasStudio to a different computer. Some definitions Serial Number A record of what you purchased from Autodesk, required for obtaining a license through Online Product Activation. Here is a sample of what a serial number might look like: 342-52134876 If you did not receive a serial number when you purchased the product, contact your local Autodesk sales office or your reseller. Hardware ID (Host ID) An alphanumeric code that identifies the machine that is authorized to run the software, required for Online Product Activation. This number can be an ethernet ID (also known as a MAC Address) or a hardware key (dongle). The Product Configuration wizard will, in most cases, identify your MAC Address. Or, you can get your Hardware ID by choosing Licensing Utility Tasks from the Product Configuration Wizard, and selecting Show OPA Hardware Identifiers on this computer. NOTE If you are looking for the Hardware ID for a laptop, contact your local system administrator, as the number that will be displayed by the Product Configuration wizard will not be correct. Product Registration & Activation An automated activation process where you submit an online form with your serial number and hardware ID, and a license is automatically generated and sent back. Product Configuration Wizard A tool that uses Online Product Activation to allow you to request and install your license easily. Node-locked license A license for a single computer. It lets you run AliasStudio only on the computer where the license is installed. (Or, in the case of hardware locks, on the computer where the hardware lock is attached.) Nodelocked licenses look similar to the following sample: FEATURE Studio sgiawd 2008 09-may-2007 \ uncounted 7CD390F11000\ HOSTID=123456789012 20 | Chapter 3 Licensing Windows Floating license A license to be shared by various computers on a network. The Autodesk AliasStudio software is installed on many computers, each with a license file that accesses the floating licenses installed on a server. Floating licenses require client and server setup. Also called a site license. Floating licenses look similar to the following sample: SERVER pc-server 123456789012 7111 VENDOR sgiawd FEATURE Studiof sgiawd 2008 10-may-2007 1 FC29A6FBF000 License file A file with encrypted data that enables Autodesk AliasStudio to run on your machine. A license is required to run the software. Client In floating license configurations, the machine that requests a license from the license server Server In floating license configurations, the machine that provides licenses as requested by users on client machines. Activating the software from a serial number Use these instructions if: You only have a serial number and... ■ You are a new customer installing AliasStudio for the first time. ■ You are relocating AliasStudio to a different computer. ■ You are setting up a floating license server on a Windows machine where you want the software installed on the server machine. Do not use these instructions if: ■ You already have a license. Go to Activating the software from a license on page 23. ■ You are setting up a floating license server and do not want the Autodesk software installed on it, or you want to set up a floating license server using operating systems other than Windows. Go to Setting up floating servers without installing the software on page 25 After you install your copy of the AliasStudio software, you need to obtain a license to activate the software. The easiest and fastest way to get a license is to use the Internet. | 21 What if my machine can’t browse outside to the Internet? If no computer in your organization has access to the Internet, follow the Product Configuration Wizard until (fax phone email) is requested; you will need to request your license by email. If you can access the Internet from some machine in your organization (but not the machine you’re licensing): 1 On the computer that is being licensed, follow the Product Configuration Wizard until you are asked how you want the data sent to you. Request the one of the phone, fax, and email options. You will be provided with all the data you need to license the computer (hardware ID, serial number, and so on). Record or print this data. 2 On another computer that is connected to the Internet, go to RegisterOnce: https://registeronce.autodesk.com/ 3 Enter the serial number, hardware ID, and other information you recorded for the computer you want to obtain a license for. Once the license is returned, install it on the computer you want to license. Where is my serial number? New customers will receive a serial number in one of the following ways: ■ emailed or otherwise sent directly from the reseller where you obtained your copy of the software ■ emailed directly from Autodesk. ■ on the outside of your software package (available from selected resellers) What do serial numbers look like? Here is a sample of what a serial number might look like: 123-12345678 What if I don’t have a serial number? If you did not receive a serial number, contact your local Autodesk sales office or your reseller to obtain one. The following instructions tell you how to use your serial number and hardware ID to obtain license data from Autodesk. The instructions then tell you how to use the license data to create a license file that can be used to run the software. 22 | Chapter 3 Licensing Windows Activate your software 1 Install AliasStudio, if you haven’t already. 2 From the Start menu, choose Programs > Autodesk > AliasStudio > Licensing. 3 The Product Configuration Wizard opens, and guides you through the process of activating your serial number or installing your license. What if I closed the licensing program? If you closed the Product Configuration Wizard while you were working on the Internet in the previous step, go to the Windows Start menu and select Programs > Autodesk > AliasStudio > Licensing. Select I have a license that I need to install from the list of entries and proceed to install your license. Next steps (if the licensing is successful) ■ If you are a node-locked (single machine) user, your software is now activated and ready to use. Go to Setting up floating servers without installing the software on page 25 If you have obtained license data from Autodesk, you can use the Product Configuration Wizard to automatically create the license file that is required to use the software. A license file is created from the license data provided to you by Autodesk. This data may have been provided to you in an email, a license file, a fax or even read to you over the phone. License files typically have the following names and locations: ■ For node-locked (single) licenses, C:\FlexLM\aw.dat ■ For floating licenses, C:\FlexLM\aw_servername.dat (where servername is the name of the license server. What do licenses look like? Node locked licenses look similar to the following sample: FEATURE Studio sgiawd 2008 09-may-2007 uncounted 7CD390F11000 HOSTID=123456789012 Floating licenses look similar to the following sample: SERVER pc-server 123456789012 7111 VENDOR sgiawd FEATURE Studiof sgiawd 2008 10-may-2007\ 1 FC29A6FBF000 Install a license 1 From the Windows Start menu, select Programs > Autodesk > Autodesk AliasStudio > Licensing. 2 The Product Configuration Wizard window opens. Go to Activating the software from a serial number on page 21 or Activating the software from a license on page 23. In some cases, you may want to set up a floating license server on platforms other than Windows. Or, you may want to set up a dedicated license server on Windows machines without installing the Autodesk AliasStudio software. | 25 In these cases, you cannot use the Product Configuration Wizard for license installation. If you are setting up a server on a platform other than Windows, you must download the appropriate license tool software from the Autodesk website. To set up the license software 1 Go to http://www.autodesk.com/licensetools (You may have to register for this free service.) 2 From the Web site, open the installation instructions for the server machine’s operating system. From these instructions, find out how to locate the hardware ID for the server machine. Copy or write down this hardware ID. 3 Download and install the license tool software on the server machine, if required. 4 Submit your license request at http://www.autodesk.com/opa/. To submit your license request, you need to provide the serial number for the floating license you purchased, along with the hardware ID for the machine that will be the floating server. 5 Follow the installation instructions you downloaded to set up and configure the server and its clients. If you do not have Internet access: If you do not have Internet access, you need to phone in with the hardware ID for your server machine. Contact your Alias representative for details. Set up the client computers Client computers must have AliasStudio installed and must have a client license file that points to the license server. These steps aren’t necessary for the server... You can already run AliasStudio locally on the license server computer using its existing aw_servername.dat file, so you don’t need to do the following steps for the server. To set up the client computer: 1 Install AliasStudio on every client computer you are going to set up. 2 On the server machine, make a copy of its server license file, located at C:/FLEXLM/aw_servername.dat. Place the copy at another location (for example, your desktop) and rename it aw_clientname.dat. 26 | Chapter 3 Licensing Windows Notes Only the original file, aw_servername.dat, should remain in the server’s FLEXLM folder. Make sure that Hide known File Extensions is not checked as one of your View options for this folder, or the file may be called aw_clientname.dat.txt but you will only see it as aw_clientname.dat. aw_clientname.dat.txt will not work as a license file. (You will have to rename it to aw_clientname.dat.) 3 Edit the file you copied in a text editor (for example, Notepad). 4 Keep the lines beginning with “SERVER” and “VENDOR”. 5 Remove all the rest of the lines in the file. 6 Add a line reading, “USE_SERVER”. Example .. The original file might look like the following: SERVER PC-GAIA 123456789012 7111 VENDOR sgiawd FEATURE Studiof SGIAWD 2008 3-may-2007\ 4 000000000000 The edited file should look like the following: SERVER PC-GAIA 123456789012 7111 VENDOR sgiawd USE_SERVER 1 Save the aw_clientname.dat file and copy it to the C:\FLEXLM folder on all client machines. Rename the file on each client to reflect the client’s machine name (but leave the contents of the file the same on all client machines). 2 Verify that you can launch the software on each client machine by selecting Start > Programs > Autodesk > AliasStudio 2009. | 27 28 Starting AliasStudio 4 Learn how to verify that AliasStudio is installed and licensed correctly. Licensing diagnostic tools To check your system configuration with winmsd Windows Diagnostics panel providing system configuration information. To run this program see Choose Start > Run, type winmsd, and press Enter to open the System Information window. on page ? To check license errors with lmtools Licensing sometimes fails because your licensing software is using the wrong Flex ID / host ID (or server host ID). To verify that this is the case, you can use the lmtools program. | 53 For floating licenses only, you can also use the lmtools program to check for errors not listed in Understanding log file error messages on page 51. 1 Open the Com\bin directory. By default, the directory is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Alias Shared\Licensing\bin or Start > Programs > Alias > Common Utilities > FlexLM Licensing Utilities (if AliasStudio is installed on drive C). 2 Double-click lmtools.exe. 3 Choose Configuration using services. Your license server should appear in the box below this field. Notes If the license file is not in the default location, specify where it is. Choose the Configure Services tab, enter the license path under Path to the license file field, and then choose Save Service. On some Windows systems lmtools.exe and lmutil.exe may fail to retrieve the ethernet HOSTID, returning a value of ffffffff and causing pre-keying to fail. Obtain the Physical Address of your system by running the ipconfig /all command from the Command Prompt window. Convert the Physical Address to an Ethernet Address by removing the dashes and converting all letters to lowercase. For example, a Physical Address of 00-C0-4F-8E-F6-C6 becomes an Ethernet Address of 00c04f8ef6c6. Contact Autodesk Sales Support, request a license, and provide them with the Ethernet Address. 4 Look under the System Settings tab to find out which host IDs are used by your system. Use this table to find out which field to look at, and what to compare it to in the license file. The license file can be found at these default locations: ■ C:\FLEXlm\aw.dat for node-locked licenses ■ C:\FLEXlm\aw_servername.dat for floating licenses (where servername is the name of the license server computer). If the value in the system settings doesn’t match the value in the aw.dat or aw_servername.dat file, either: ■ You typed in the wrong server name in the aw.dat or aw_servername.dat file (use Notepad to correct the number) 54 | Chapter 6 Troubleshooting ■ You were supplied with the wrong license information (contact Autodesk). For the security type... The value in... Should match... NOTE If the license file is not the default location, you must specify where it is. Choose the Configure Services tab, enter the license path under Path to the license file field, and then choose Save Service. 2 Click on the Server Status tab. 3 Click on the Perform Status Enquiry button. It shows whether ■ the license server is up and running ■ each feature line in aw_servername.dat is free of errors ■ the license count is correct for each feature Examine these entries in the status information during the following steps: | 55 License server status: 7111@servername License file(s) on servername: C:\FLEXlm\aw_servername.dat: servername: license server UP (MASTER) v11.4.100\ Vendor daemon status (on servername): sgiawd: UP v10.8 (where servername is the name of the license server computer). 4 In the top line, the number 7111 is a fixed value for the TCP port used internally by the licensing software. If you see a different number, make sure that you intend for that port number to be used. Otherwise, open the file aw_servername.dat and change the number to 7111. 5 In the next line of the status information, check that the correct path to the license file is listed. NOTE If you didn’t install the license files in the default location, pay special attention that the path is correct. 6 The next line of the status information shows that the license server is running. If it isn’t, you’ll see an error message that begins like this: lmgrd not running: Cannot connect to license server. The server (lmgrd) has not been started yet, or the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the port or hostname in the license file has been changed... ■ Ensure that you have a valid license file with the correct name. ■ Keep handy the aw_servername.dat file, the Status information, and any log file error messages you examined previously. Call our Global Support Services department and provide them with this information. 7 Below the status information is a list of features in the aw_servername.dat file and whether the clients can use the features. An example follows: Feature usage info: Users of Studiof: (Total of 3 licenses available) Users of AutoStudiof: (Total of 3 licenses available) This example indicates that six licenses are available: three for Studio (floating) and three for AutoStudio (also floating). If aw.dat or aw_servername.dat has a typing error, you’ll see a message similar to this: Feature usage info: Users of Studiof: (Error: 1 licenses, unsupported by licensed server) Users of AutoStudiof: Total of 1 licenses available) Check aw.dat or aw_servername.dat for a typing error in the Studiof FEATURE line. 8 If the preceding procedure doesn’t fix the problem, call our Support Services department and keep the information from the preceding two steps nearby. 56 | Chapter 6 Troubleshooting Confirming FLEXid dongle drivers installation (for hardware locks only) For hardware locks, a FLEXid dongle driver enables communication between a node-locked or license server computer and its USB or parallel port. The USB or parallel port connector is where the hardware lock is attached. From the initial installation start up window program choose Install Driver for Hardware Lock to install onto your computer. To make sure the driver was installed, do the following on the computer where the hardware lock is attached. To check FLEXid dongle driver installation: 1 Open the folder where you installed the FLEXid dongle drivers software. By default, this install folder is at C:\Program Files\Macrovision Corporation\Macrovision FLEXid Drivers, where C: is the drive where the software is installed. 2 Verify that the install folder contains the following subfolders: flexid6, flexid7, flexid8, and flexid9. 3 If this is not the case, install the FLEXid dongle drivers as follows. To install the FLEXid dongle drivers: 1 From the initial AliasStudio software CD installation window choose Install AliasStudio > Install Driver for Hardware Lock, or go to http://www.aladdin.com http://www.aladdin.com to download the latest driver. 2 Restart the computer. Starting AliasStudio troubleshooting Application Launcher Application Launcher problem Possible solutions You run appLaunch to start the Application Launcher, but AliasStudio starts without showing it. If there is only one product available in your license, that product starts. You see the Application Launcher only if more than one AliasStudio product is licensed or if there is a licensing problem. | 57 Application Launcher problem Possible solutions How do I reset the Applauncher to choose another product that I want to launch? Run Programs > Autodesk > AliasStudio 2009 > Application Launcher and choose the product you want to launch. When you start AliasStudio, the Application Launcher says that it cannot find a valid license. Ensure that a valid license is installed in eitherc:\FLEXlm\aw.dat orc:\FLEXlm\aw_servername.dat(See Before you begin: checklist on page 11.)Ensure that the license server is running.Check your license file for typing errors.Use the section Advanced license troubleshooting on page 48 to pinpoint licensing problems. You can start AliasStudio from the Application Launcher, but get a license error if you try to run the Alias executable directly. Delete the ALIAS_LICENSE variable if you understand licensing and don’t want to run any other AliasStudio products. It automatically starts a particular AliasStudio product: st (Studio), as (AutoStudio), ss (SurfaceStudio), or ds (DesignStudio). To disable this variable for Windows: 1. From Start > Settings > Control Panel > System, click on the Environment tab. 2. Look for the ALIAS_LICENSE variable. If you see that it is set, delete it by highlighting it and clicking the Delete button.Your default product might be no longer available. In that case, choose another product in the Application Launcher, click Set Default, and click Save. 58 | Chapter 6 Troubleshooting Index exiting 47 from StudioTools A adding 33 components to StudioTools (Windows) 33 administrator privileges 12 Windows 12 application launcher 29 setting StudioTools (HP-UX_ Windows 29 F 29 C CD-ROM 12 installing to Windows 12 client 12, 21 definition 21 installing on Windows 12 colors 8 setting in Windows 8 configuring 9 of mouse buttons 9 courseware 17 installing 17 FLEXlm 50 FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS 50 floating licenses 19–21, 24–26, 49, 54– 55 activate 24 client setup 26 definition 21 definitions 20 errors (Windows) 54–55 overview 19 setup with our installing software 25 troubleshooting (Windows) 49 G D default StudioTools product 29 HP-UX 29 desktop 8 Windows 8 Diags 14 Windows 14 Windows_Custom 9.6 14 disk space 5, 8 Windows 5, 8 E error messages 51 licensing log file (Windows) 47 graphics cards 6, 8, 38 certified 8 displaying properties of (Windows) 8 driver software 6, 8 manufacturers 38 option settings (Windows) set up 8 8 H hardware ID (Host ID) 20 definition 20 hardware locks 38, 43, 47, 49 disconnected 47 losing 47 more about 38 moving to another computer 43 troubleshooting (Windows) 49 51 59 | Index host IDs 54 Windows 54 I installation 12, 14, 17, 29, 34 confirming 29 courseware 17 installing components 14 setup type window (Windows) 14 starting (Windows) 12 uninstalling (Windows) 34 installing 12–14, 34 choosing destination (Windows) 13 compact (Windows) 14 custom (Windows) 14 default location (Windows) 13 reinstalling 34 renderer-only 14 select components (Windows) 14 StudioTools on Windows 12 typical (Windows) 14 upgrading (Windows) 12 installshield wizard 13 destination location 13 InstallShield Wizard 14 setup type window 14 Intellimouse 9 interrupting 47 StudioTools 47 K killing 47 StudioTools application 47 L license file 21 definition 21 license server installation 2 type of installation 2 licenses 20–22, 25, 50, 54–55 errors (Windows) 54–55 floating license definition 21 60 | Index install 25 log file (Windows) 50 node-locked licenses definition 20 serial number sample 22 licensing 19–20 definitions 20 overview 19 local installation 2 type of installation 2 log file 50 licensing errors (Windows) 50 M Microsoft 9, 38 information from 38 Intellimouse 9 modifying 33 StudioTools for Windows mouse 9 button configuration 9 Microsoft 9 simulating UNIX 9 wheel mouse 9 33 N node-locked licenses activate 24 definition 20 definitions 20 overview 19 19–20, 24 O Online Product Activation (OPA) definition 20 operating system 5, 8, 47 Windows version 5, 8, 47 P pathnames 48 in Windows systems 48 20 performance 8, 30 graphics (Windows) 8 Windows 30 Product Configuration Wizard definition 20 product information 38 graphics cards 38 hardware locks 38 Microsoft 38 Web site 38 properties 8 Windows desktop 8 Q Qualification Charts web site 5, 7 5, 7 R registry 47 Windows 47 removing 33–34 components of StudioTools (Windows) 33 StudioTools (Windows) 34 renderer-only installation 14 resources 38 about graphics cards 38 about hardware locks 38 at Microsoft 38 resourcesWeb site 38 S serial number 20–22 activating software 21 defined 20 sample 22 server 21 definition 21 setting 8 color in Windows 8 setup type window 14 in installation 14 20 software requirements 5, 8 Windows 5, 8 space requirements 5, 8 Windows 5, 8 speed 30 improving in Windows 30 startup 47 duration 47 StudioTools 5, 12–14, 29, 34, 47 default location (Windows) 13 default product (HP-UX) 29 installing components (Windows) 14 reinstalling on Windows 34 removing (Windows) 34 repairing 34 setting default product (HP-UX) 29 uninstalling (Windows) 34 upgrading (Windows) 12 version (Windows) 34, 47 Windows system requirements 5 StudioViewer 7 system requirements 7 switching computers 43 system configuration 5 how to determine 5 T task manager 47 in Windows 47 terminating StudioTools using Task Manager types of installation 2 license server 2 local 2 47 47 U UNIX 9 mouse, simulating in Windows upgrading 12 StudioTools (Windows) 12 9 Index | 61 improving interactive performance 30 installing components 14 installing StudioTools 12 pathnames in 48 registry 47 reinstalling StudioTools 34 renderer-only installation.6 14 select components window 14 simulating UNIX mouse 9 uninstalling StudioTools 34 V version 12, 34, 47 StudioTools (Windows) 34, 47 StudioTools, upgrading (Windows) 12 video resolution 8 Windows 8 W Web site 38 Windows 8–9, 12–14, 30, 34, 47–48 default location of StudioTools 13 desktop properties 8 62 | Index X XMouse productivity tool 9
