Installing ExaScale Line Cards Dell Force10 Catalog Numbers: LC-EH-10GE-10P, LC-EJ-10GE-10P, LC-EH-10GE-10S, LC-EJ-10GE-10S, LC-EH-10GE-40S, LC-EJ-10GE-40S, LC-EH-GE-50P, LC-EJ-GE-50P, LC-EH-GE-90M, LC-EJ-GE-90M
The E-Series ExaScale requires at least one line card to operate. You can add, replace, or remove line cards without interrupting the system power or system operations. Any line card can be inserted into any line card slot. NOTE: ExaScale line cards have a minimum FTOS version requirement. See Table 1-1. NOTE: All chassis slots must be installed with operational modules or blanks. Always replace cards and blank panels immediately. Figure 1-6.

Installing line cards WARNING: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage can occur when components are mishandled. Always wear an ESD-preventive wrist or foot-heel ground strap when handling line cards. Place line cards on an antistatic surface when they are not installed. Step
Task
4
Verify that the chassis is running the minimum FTOS version for the line card that you are installing.
5
Completely extend the ejector lever (rotate away from the chassis).
6
Align the card with the card slot guides, and slide it into the slot until the connectors engage with the chassis backplane. Avoid touching the printed circuit board or connector pins.
7
Rotate the ejector lever towards the chassis to seat the card into place. The card should be flush with the chassis.
8
Secure the card in place by tightening the top and bottom captive screws.
Removing line cards WARNING: Do not remove a panel blank unless you are ready to install a line card into that slot. After removing a line card, immediately place a panel blank in the empty slot. Blanks are required to control airflow and electromagnetic interference. Step

|
Task
1
Unplug the network interface cables connected to the line card.
2
Unscrew the captive screws and rotate the ejector lever away from the chassis to disengage the backplane connections.
3
Use the ejector lever and the card handle to pull the card out of the slot. Avoid touching the printed circuit board and connector pins.
4
Insert a blank panel into all empty slots. Blanks do not have board components or connector pins. Align the blank with the slot guides and push it until it is flush with the chassis. Tighten the captive screws to secure the panel in place.

NOTE: The 4-port 40G line card protrudes from the chassis front by approximately 2 inches. Do not force the card flush to the chassis front when installing. The locking levers will secure the card when it is seated in the backplane. NOTE: •
The following FTOS features are NOT supported on the 4-port 40G line card (LC-EH-40GE-4P, LC-EJ-40GE-4P): Ipv6 MultiCast, Non-default CAM profiles, BFD, PBR, Flow, VLAN Stacking; QOS, CFP Optics. Installing the line card in a system running these features can lead to unpredictable behavior.

LAG is NOT supported on the 4-port 40G line card. The 4-port 40G line card can be configured for linerate or oversubscribed mode (linecard id [linerate | oversubscribes] active-ports port-set number CLI in CONFIGURATION mode). The line card must be rebooted when mode or port changes are made. Line card boot up may take up to 6 minutes.

NOTE: 90-port 1G line cards have six port LEDs per input connector (one for every physical port). Figure 1-9.
