The top will tilt out making it easy to remove. 2008.03.18_DLR1GB_IB.qxp 19/03/2008 12:48 Page 9 POWERING YOUR RADIO USING BATTERIES Your radio will take either alkaline batteries or NiMH rechargeable batteries. If you anticipate using batteries on a regular basis, then the use of rechargeable batteries is recommended. • • • Rechargeable batteries will automatically recharge (fully charged in three hours) when your radio is connected to the AC power adaptor, but turned off. They will not recharge whilst the radio is playing. Six new or fully charged batteries will provide approximately 9 hours of listening (dependent on volume level). It is normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging. • We recommend that all batteries are taken out of the radio if it is unlikely to be used for an extended period of time. See page 20 for battery maintenance information. • If left in the compartment for a extended period of time, or if the battery selector switch is set incorrectly the battery may leak and become hazardous. CHARGE/LOW BATTERY STATUS LED Use this table to determine the status of your batteries: A new rechargeable battery comes in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. On initial use (or after a prolonged period of storage) the batteries may require three to four charge/ discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity. • • To discharge, simply run the radio until it completely discharges. Then recharge the battery again. Failure to do so can significantly shorten the battery's life. 9 2008.03.18_DLR1GB_IB.qxp 19/03/2008 12:48 Page 10 SETTING UP ACCESSING CLOCK, ALARM & TIMER FUNCTIONS NOTE: TO USE THE TIME, DATE AND ALARM FUNCTIONS YOUR RADIO MUST BE PLUGGED IN AT THE MAINS. Never use abrasives, liquids, aerosol cleaners, brushes or scouring pads. The radio speaker will then be muted so that all sound is diverted through the headphones. • IMPORTANT: BEFORE PUTTING THE HEADPHONES ON ALWAYS CHECK THE VOLUME LEVEL. YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR HEARING WITH PROLONGED LISTENING AT HIGH VOLUME. For fast and easy cleaning with just water, use a micro fibre cloth. Available from various retail outlets, these cloths will clean all grease and dirt without smearing. • This radio must not be immersed in water or cleaned with a water jet. BACKLIGHT The display backlight will come on when any button is pressed. To conserve energy it will automatically go off after 12 seconds. 19 2008.03.18_DLR1GB_IB.qxp 19/03/2008 12:48 Page 20 SERVICING & MAINTENANCE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY CARE RESTORING FACTORY SETTINGS There are a few simple steps you can take to insure that you get maximum performance from your rechargeable batteries: • • • If the radio fails to work properly or the display is showing missing or incomplete letters and numbers, you may need to restore factory settings. This will remove all favourites and presets and restore the original factory settings. Break In new batteries - New batteries come in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. We recommended that you fully charge and discharge the new battery three to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity. NOTE: THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE. • Exercise the battery - Do not leave the battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If a battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above. Press and hold down the ‘INFO’ button for three seconds until ‘Station Order’ (DAB mode) or ‘Factory Reset’ (FM mode) are displayed. In DAB mode you will need to turn the TUNE knob until ‘Factory Reset’ is displayed. Press to select. Battery storage - If you don't plan on using the radio for a month or more, we recommend storing the batteries outside the radio in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. NiMH batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to break them in before use. 20 • A full reset will be performed and all presets, station lists, time and alarm functions will be cleared. • After a system reset, the radio will perform a Quick Scan the first time you select DAB mode. • In case of malfunction due to electrostatic discharge, reset the radio (reconnection of power source may be required) to resume normal operation. 2008.03.18_DLR1GB_IB.qxp 19/03/2008 12:48 Page 21 SERVICING & MAINTENANCE TROUBLESHOOTING My radio won’t turn on or there is no sound The clock is wrong • Check that the plug is pushed properly into the mains socket and the jack is secure in the side of the radio. • Connect the power adaptor and choose DAB mode to automatically reset the clock. • If not on mains power, check batteries are charged. • Alternatively, reset the clock manually (see page 11). I can hear an electronic ‘fuzz’ • This happens when the signal is very weak. Make sure the aerial is fully extended and try moving the radio near a window or higher up to improve reception. • If you still can’t get a particular station, check online to see if you are in the broadcast area for that station. Display reads ‘No Station Available’ in DAB mode • The DAB signal isn’t strong enough. Check the aerial is fully extended. • Try moving the radio to improve reception (near a window or higher up) or tune into station manually. • Your location may not receive DAB signals, check using an online DAB reception checker. The rechargeable batteries are not charging • The screen keeps dimming Batteries only charge when your radio is in standby mode. • Ensure the battery selector switch is set to ‘rechargeable’. • Batteries must all be the same type and mAh values. • I press buttons but nothing happens A ‘?’ is displayed next to the DAB station name • The radio has gone into energy-saving mode (after 12 seconds). This does not mean the batteries are low. When any button is pressed the screen should return to full brightness. You are outside the broadcast area or the station is inactive. 21 • Remove batteries and unplug radio. Then restart. • Restore factory settings as on page 20. 2008.03.18_DLR1GB_IB.qxp 19/03/2008 12:48 Page 22 SERVICING & MAINTENANCE DUALIT CUSTOMER HELPLINE GUARANTEE If your radio fails within one year from date of purchase we will repair or replace it free of charge provided: If your radio fails to work properly after using our troubleshooting guide and performing a factory reset, call Dualit’s Customer Helpline on +44(0)1293 652 500 Keep your radio to hand.
