Attention! Please, follow the savety instructions! • Keep out of reach of children! • Make sure that the power outlet you plug the flash is working correctly. • Do not disassemble or modify! There are high-voltage components inside the unit. Repairs should only be performed by authorised service personnel! • Do not touch the lamp cap when the flash or modeling lamp is working due to risk of burns or electic shock! • Disconnect the flash from the power supply when mounting accessories on or off or when you’re cleaning the flash unit. • Durint operation, some of the light control accessories may be heated to high tempetures! Wait to cool down before you mount them off. • During operation, do not cover the flash! Make sure that the flash unit will not be activated in the vicinity of inflammable gases or liquids. Risk of explosions! • Do not expose the flash unit to water drops and splashes! • In every 30 continuous flashes at full power, leave the flash to cool down for about 3 minutes. Overheating will occur if it is used continuously without cooling down. • Do not flash directly into eyes from a close distance! Direct flashing into the eyes of person or animals can cause damage to the retina and severe disruption of the vision – up to and including permanent blindness! • If the housing has been damaged in such a way that internal components are exposed, the flash unit may no longer be used. Disconnect from the power supply! Do not touch any internal components. HIGH VOLTAGE! • Use only light controlling accessories autorized by DYNAPHOS Ltd. 2 Guide 14 4 7 8 10 back panel 1 2 3 5 6 9 11 12 13 15 overview 1. Photoeye; 2. Digital display; 3. To take down the protective cap or mounted accessory, hold down the mount release button (pic. 1), turn the accessory counterclockwise and pull it forward. To mount an accessory, proceed the opposite way as matching the feathers of the bayonet with the corresponding holes of the flashe body. Please notice, that to installe the modeling lamp, first you need to unmount the glass cover dome. To work with photographic umbrella use standard 18 cm reflector and place it with the umbrella outfit matching the flash umbrella holder. Please, pay attention that the umbrella holder is located in the upper side of the flash (pic. 3)! The umbrella is fixed due to rubber dampers so you need to apply moderate effort to overcome their resistance. Make sure that the power switch 9. (check page 2) is in “0” position and place the power cable in the AC power socket 13. Plug in the power cable and turn on the flash by placing the power switch in position “I”. Make a test flash as pressing the “Test” button 6. pic. 1 pic. 2 pic. 3 4 Guide Flash Control Expert QS studio flash has power range from 1/1 to 1/32 (6 EV), which can be adjusted through the flash output controller 3. in 30 steps and it’s shown on the digital display 2. (check pic. 2) with numbers from 8.0 to 5.0. If you reduce the power output with one more increment under 5.0, the digial display will show “OF” symbol and the flash will stay turn on, but it won’t be able to fire a flash. When reducing the flash output, the Auto Dump function will turn on and it will discharge the capacitors to the set lower power. Depending on the size of the adjustment this proces will take between 2 and 45 sec. When reducing the power output with more than 1 EV is recommended to discharge the capacitors manually in order not to wait the whole process. Expert QS studio flash has fully manual control of the modeling light. To turn on or off the modeling lamp, press the button 8. You can steplessly control it trough to the modeling light output controller 4. When the flash is on and idle for more than two hours , the modeling lamp will automatically turn off. Restart the flash to turn it back on. Overload and overheat protection During continious work with the flash (large number of flashes for a short term), an overheating may occur. To protect the flash, don’t make more than 30 flashes in a row with higher power output (8.0 10.0). After every 30 contiguous flashes leave the flash to cool down for at least 3 min. When working with light control accessories such as spots, which are preventing the cooling, you have to limit the modeling light use and the flash shouldn’t be used too intense. If the flash is used carelessly about its temperature this may cause failure, in which case Dynaphos Ltd. reserves the right to refuse warranty repair. 5 Guide Sync triggering Plug the sync cable or connect the flash trigger receiver in the usb port jack 11 (check page 2) Connect the sunchro cable or the receiver with the camera and set the camera on the max. shutter speed. (check the camera manual instructions) When pressing the camera shutter release, simultaneously the flash will fire an impulse. If you use more than one flash, the others will be activeted through their photo cells. Use the button 5. to turn on or off the photo cell, as well as to set a mode for triggering with 1st or 2nd flash. (the last one is used when activating through manual flash with Pre Flash function). When the button 5. indicator flashes blue, 1st flash trigger mode is set on, when it flashes red the 2nd flash mode is set on. When the photo cell is turn off, the indicator won’t flash. In some cases it is possible the intense of the master flash to be insufficient to trigger the rest of the flashes through their photo cells. In this case use additional receivers for each flash. You can also trigger the flash by the “Test” button 6. Slave mode Through the optional FT-16 wireless power control and trigger, you can remotely trigger and control off the flash power, pilot light and the photo cell of 16 separate flashes (groups) Expert QS. For this purpose you will need a FT-16 power control and trigger kit (product № 010288) The device is specially designed for work with studio flashes Expert QS, Speedster QT, Craftline GS, Starter DE, Witstro and XEnergizer. To trigger and power control a flash with FT-16: - open the battery compartment of the sender and place 2 alkaline batteries 1.5V AA as following the right polarity. Guide 6 7 - mount the sender in the camera HotShoe connector with the control panel towards to you and tighten the nut 6. - choose a working channel via the selector 9. and turn on the sender from the power switch 2. - place the receiver in the USB sync port 10. of the flash (check page 2) and set on the same channel as the sender (check the further picture). From the selector 9. choose a working group. For work with more than one flash, you’ll have to place a corresponding number of additional receivers FTR-16 (product № 010289) for each flash and set them on the same channel as the sender. Preferably, the receiver of each flash has to be set on a different group in order each flash to be control separately. - choose a working group (a flash) from the selector of the sender; to change the power output of the flash use the “-/+” button 5; through the “Lamp” button 10. you can turn on or off the modeling light; through the “Buzz” button 3. you can turn on or off the sound signal; through the “Test” button 12. you trigger the flash or make a test flash. - Please notice, that the “Set” button 3. is working only with WITSTRO series. - when pressing a button the indicator 11. must flash, if this don’t happen place a new batteries and try again. - after finnishing work turn off the receiver from the power switch 2. - keep the antenna 7. save from mechanical damage 1 8 2 9 3 10 4 11 5 12 6 9 Technical specifications Expert QS-300 Expert QS-600 Power Output (WS) 300 600 Guide number (ISO 100) 58 Model 76 Power adjustment 1/32 - 1/1 (6 EV) Flash duration (t=0.5) Recycling time 1/2000 - 1/800 sec. 0.3-1.2 sec 0.3-1.5 sec Colour temperature 5600°K (+/-180) Charging indication BUZZ, modeling light Modeling light manual, on/off Modeling tube 150W/220V, E27 Triggering sync cable, test button, photoeye with mode for triggering with 1st or 2nd flash, IR, USB for FT-16 wireless and power control trigger Cooling active, overheating protection Sync voltage ~5V Operating voltage Dimensions Weight Product number 200-240V/50-60Hz 140x230x410 mm (without reflector) 2.7 kg 010430 3.0 kg 010431 www.dynaphos.com Sofia 1700, Proff.
