Overview and System Requirements The S&C IntelliTeam® CNMS Communication Network Management System is deployed as an Open Virtual Appliance (OVA). No software installation is required, only deployment of the OVA and configuration of the CNMS application to communicate with the radios in the field. Before deploying the CNMS OVA, ensure the firewall rules required for the CNMS system have been provisioned and the host server has the required specifications for the CNMS Virtual Machine.
Typical CNMS Firewall
Figure 1 shows the communication paths and firewall requirements for a typical CNMS system installation.
Figure 1. A typical CNMS firewall.
CNMS Server
The CNMS Virtual Server includes these components:
IntelliTeam CNMS Application The IntelliTeam CNMS application is used for monitoring and managing a SpeedNet™ Radio network. The application polls the radios at scheduled intervals to collect performance and configuration data, which are displayed in an interactive user interface. Users can also perform on-demand polls and make configuration changes.
MySQL Database The CNMS application stores all data to its local MySQL Database.

Overview and System Requirements CNMS Minimum VM Specifications
This information is for initial planning purposes:
VM Host Server Requirements •
Minimum: Quad Core; 64 bit; 16 GB RAM; 500 GB HDD
•
Recommended: Quad Core; 64 bit; 32 GB RAM; 1 TB HDD
•
VMware Workstation 9 (and above) or ESXi 5.x (and above)
•
Connectivity to the headend radios and client PCs via corporate LAN
CNMS Virtual Machine Characteristics •

•
Minimum: 2 processors; 64 bit; 8 GB RAM; 50 GB HDD
•
Recommended: 2 processors; 64 bit; 16 GB RAM; 100 GB HDD
•
Port Number and Purpose: 8443—Application access through browser (HTTPS) 161—Communication with Radios (SNMPv3) 69—Firmware download (TFTP)
Suggested Third-Party Software
Administrators should download the following software to the Virtual Server:
Google Earth Google Earth software enables the IntelliTeam CNMS application to export radio locations and performance data to the Google Earth interface.
Wireshark Wireshark software enables administrators to monitor traffic between the CNMS application and the radio network.
Deployment Procedure Ensure that firewall rules required for the CNMS system have been provisioned and the host server has the required specifications for the CNMS Virtual Machine, then deploy the CNMS Open Virtual Appliance: 1. Transfer the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA file from the S&C box.com directory to the host server. Your S&C representative will provide the link and password for the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA file. 2. Deploy the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA file using VMware vSphere Windows Client or vCenter Appliance Web Client. 3. Configure persistent routes between the IntelliTeam CNMS server and the radio network in the field. An additional virtual network card may be needed on the CNMS machine, depending on how the network is setup to communicate with the radios in the field. 4. Discover the radio network with the IntelliTeam CNMS application. The S&C Application Engineer will assist in doing this once network connectivity has been established from the CNMS Server to the radio network.
Transferring the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA File
Note: Before radios are added to the CNMS system, the CNMS Server must have routes added to the radios in the field.
1. Your S&C representative will supply the link to the box.com download page and the required password for the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA File. 2. Download the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA file from box.com to a USB drive. 3. Upload the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA file from the USB drive to the host server. S&C Instruction Sheet 1073-510 3
Deployment Procedure Importing the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA File
The location of options or the field names in vSphere Client may vary depending on the version you are using. However, the basic concepts will remain the same. Complete the following steps to deploy the IntelliTeam CNMS OVA file: 1. In the vSphere Windows Client, log in to the hypervisor to which you wish to deploy the CNMS OVA File. Then, select File>Deploy OVF Template. 2. Select the OVA file to be deployed. 3. Continue the import steps and choose the necessary provisioning information for your environment. 4. For disk provisioning select Thick Provision. 5. When you have entered the required settings click Finish. 6. Edit the CNMS virtual machine settings: (a) Upgrade RAM to 16 GB (if the Host Server has 32 GB of RAM). (b) Add storage for a total of 100 GB. (c) If needed add a network adapter to connect the CNMS application to the radio network. Otherwise, you may need to create roots to allow the CNMS application to communicate with the radios in the field. 7. Power on the Virtual Machine (your S&C representative will provide a username and password). The first boot of the CNMS server will take a few moments to initialize and provision to your environment. 8. Update the Windows 2008 R2 License Key with the one your IT group provides. 9. Add persistent routes to subnets of the headend radio Ethernet IP addresses and subnets of field radio Wireless IP addresses. This may require your IT group to add additional routing if firewalls and routers exist between the server and headend radios. Ping the radios to test connectivity. (a) Open ports 161 and 69 on firewalls between the server and radios. (b) Open port 8443 on firewalls between the server and client PCs that need to access the database. 10. Update the IntelliTeam CNMS license. If it started automatically, stop the CNMS application and update the license. Your IntelliTeam CNMS license is based on the MAC Address of the VM Network Adapter. After you send the MAC address to S&C, your license will be generated and sent back to you. 11. From the Windows Start button, go to ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>SERVICES, and start the IntelliTeam CNMS application. 12. Open Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, and go to the address: https://{SERVER IP ADDRESS}:8443 and proceed past the security certificate warning. 13. Log in to the CNMS application and follow these steps to discover the radio network: (a) Update Radio Credentials—go to START>APPLICATION SETTINGS> DEFAULT SNMP SETTINGS, and update the default credentials to match radio credentials: Username, Auth. Password, and Privacy Password. (b) Discover Headend Radios—go to START>TOPOLOGY>ADD ELEMENT, and add all the headend radio Ethernet addresses. (c) Discover Field Radios—go to START>TOPOLOGY>DISCOVERY, and add a discovery schedule for the range of wireless IP addresses connected to already- discovered headend radios.
