Overview The IntelliTeam CNMS Communication Network Monitoring System is a Simple Netowrk Management Protocol (SNMP)-based solution for monitoring and managing a network of S&C SpeedNet™ Radios. It provides the following features: • Monitors performance of SpeedNet Radio Ethernet and wireless interfaces • Provides consolidated performance reports on a per radio subgroup level • Supports continuous monitoring and management of radio configuration • Supports continuous monitoring and management of network topology • Supports scheduled software upgrade and backup for one or more radios • Supports periodic configuration backups SpeedNet Radios enable utilities to build wireless mesh networks for small area coverage such as an electrical distribution feeder, and networks can be expanded to cover an entire metropolitan area. The SpeedNet system provides fully integrated, twoway communication of real-time information between smart grid components over a peer-to-peer mesh network. SpeedNet Radios automatically build routing tables that define message paths so, if a link is lost, a new path will be quickly established. Operating in the unlicensed 902- to 928-MHz band, typical range with an omni-directional antenna is 2 to 5 miles in mesh mode, and more than 6 miles in point-to-multipoint mode with directional antennas. If needed, SpeedNet Repeater Radios can be installed to increase transmission range and provide alternate nodes for message routing. See Figure 1.

Firmware The IntelliTeam CNMS system is flexible and supports a variety of resource deployments. Appropriate configuration to customize it for a specific deployment is the key to using the devices effectively. The IntelliTeam CNMS system supports an intuitive Command Line Interface (CLI) to help users configure the network elements. Configuration management activities include the maintenance and upgrading of network components. This section describes the process of managing the firmware uploaded on the different devices in the network.
Firmware Maintenance
The Firmware Maintenance module manages firmware versions for the network elements. The IntelliTeam CNMS system can download firmware from an TFTP Server. If required, the CNMS server can also run an internal TFTP server to improve the download process. To manage the firmware upgrade process, the CNMS system maintains all device firmware versions in its database.

Deleting Firmware Maintenance
When a deletion is requested, The IntelliTeam CNMS system validates that the firmware version is not used as part of an active or completed firmware upgrade. If it is in use as part of any upgrade schedule, a delete request is denied. To delete firmware maintenance requirements: 1. Navigate to Configuration>Firmware>Maintenance from the menu bar. 2. The Firmware Maintenance window opens. See Figure 3 on page 4. 3. Select the required record from the list.
Note: A firmware release currently in use cannot be deleted.
4. Click on the Delete icon , or right click on the selected firmware, and select Delete. Click OK in the confirmation window to proceed. 5. Click Cancel to abort the process.
Obsoleting a Firmware Release
When a firmware version reaches its end of life (EOL), the version can be marked as obsolete to indicate it can no longer be used for upgrading any device. When the software release is marked obsolete as part of any schedule, it cannot be used. When a firmware release is marked Obsolete, it cannot be changed back to Active status. To obsolete a firmware release: 1. Navigate to Configuration>Firmware>Maintenance from the menu bar. 2. The Firmware Maintenance window opens. See Figure 3 on page 4. 3. Select the required record from the list.
Note: A firmware release currently in use cannot be deleted. S&C Instruction Sheet 1073-547 7

, or right click on the selected firmware and select
5. Click OK in the confirmation window to proceed, or click Cancel to abort the process.
Using Filters in Firmware Maintenance
The Firmware Maintenance Filter filters the records displayed based on certain parameters, values, and conditions so only those that satisfy the conditions will be displayed. The Firmware Maintenance Filter Manager window shows the list of filters and their corresponding filter components.
Firmware Upgrade
This option manages the schedules for upgrading the firmware of single and/or multiple network elements. A new firmware upgrade can be scheduled for a set of network elements as part of a typical maintenance cycle. By defining an upgrade schedule, the IntelliTeam CNMS system can be configured to execute it automatically.
