INTRODUCTION -Continued Qualified Persons i
These instructions are for installation and operation of theswitch-control unit forusewith S&C Scada-Mate Switches. See Figure 1. The switch-controlunit is suitable forinstallationswherethe RTU and communication equipment are supplied by others in a separate enclosure. Interconnecting wiring between that enclosure and the switch-control unit is to be furnished by the user. Depending on the application, t,he switch-control unit is powered either by user-supplied 120-volt ac control power or by a voltage sensor on theScada-Mat,e Switch. Instructions forinstallation and operat,ion of the ScadaMate Switch are povided in S&C InstructionSheet 768-500, shipped with the switch.

The equipment covered by this publication must be installed, operated, and maintained by qualified persons who are knowledgeable in the installation, operation, and maintenance of electric power distribution equipment along with the associated hazards. These instructions are intendedonly for such qualified persons. They are rrot intended to be a substitute for adequate training and experience in safety procedures for this typeof equipment.

The switch-control unit contains battery packs which will be damaged if‘allowed to discharge completely. To prevent such damage,the switch-control unit shouldbe st,ored in a cool, dry place and placed in serviceby the date marked on the tag (or sign) affixed to the control unit (or shipping container). If it cannot be installedby this date, the battery packs must be placed on charge. Refer to the “MAINTENANCE”section on page 8 for instructions on charging the battery packs.

I CHECKING THE A catalog drawing and wiring diagrams for the switchcontrol unit will be found in a water-resistant envelope shipped with the control unit. Similarly, a catalog drawing for the Scada-Mate Switch will be found in a water-resistant envelope shipped with the switch. Study these drawings carefully and check the parts list to verify that all parts areat hand. The shipmentwill include the following items: 1. A three-pole group-operated integer style Scada-Mate Switch, complete with interphase drive, stored-energy operating mechanism, and sensors all fact,ory assembled on a single base. 2. A switch-control unit including a switch control, dual 12-volt 5 ampere-hour battery packs,a battery charger, and 316L stainless-st,eel enclosure.
