Before you start Remove all packaging before you start and dispose of it responsibly. Before you bake your first loaf, you should use Make ‘n’ Bake once without any ingredients. This is because certain residues from the manufacturing of the Bread pan can be left on the pan surface and need to be ‘burnt off’ to prevent them from altering the taste of your bread.
1. Make sure the Bread pan and Kneading paddle are fixed in place inside Make ‘n’ Bake (FIG.1 & FIG.2 - PAGE 2).
2. Place Make ‘n’ Bake on a flat surface with plenty of space around it. Plug in and switch on. Keep pressing the menu button until setting 10 - the Bake setting - appears on the display.
3. Press Start and leave Make ‘n’ Bake to bake for 10 minutes. You may notice a slight burning smell during this time, but this is perfectly normal.
4. After ten minutes, press down the Stop button until you hear a beep sound, then switch off. 5. Open Make ‘n’ Bake and allow it to cool fully. Using oven gloves, remove the Bread pan and Kneading paddle then wash in warm soapy water along with the measuring cup, measuring spoon and bread hook. Allow to dry fully before using again.
Removing the Bread pan - To remove the Bread pan, lift the handle and twist the pan slightly anti-clockwise. (FIG.3). The pan will unclip and can be easily removed. - To re-insert the Bread pan, place into the centre of the Baking chamber. Twist slightly anticlockwise until it slides onto the Pan socket in the middle. Then twist clockwise to fix firmly into place.

How to use Make ‘n’ Bake These are basic guidelines for making bread in Make ‘n’ Bake. Depending on the recipe or programme you choose, some of the guidelines may differ slightly. See programme details for more information.
Measuring your ingredients - Precisely measuring your ingredients and adding them to the Bread pan in the right order is essential for making the perfect loaf. Use the measuring cup and measuring spoon to carefully measure your ingredients and then add them to the Bread Pan. - If measuring liquids or oils, make sure you wash, clean and dry the cup and spoon before measuring other ingredients. 05
Adding ingredients to the Bread pan - Before adding your ingredients, make sure that the Kneading paddle is on the drive shaft (FIG.1 - PAGE 2), unless your ingredients don’t require kneading. - The Bread pan does not have to be inside Make ‘n’ Bake before you add ingredients. If you do choose to add ingredients before placing it inside the Baking chamber, make sure you are very careful when carrying the pan, as it’s very important that the ingredients don’t move inside the pan before baking. - You should first add your liquid ingredients, such as a water, oils and eggs. All ingredients should be at room temperature unless specified in the recipe (the Quick setting, for example, requires warm water 40°C - 45°C).
Yeast Salt
Sugar Dry ingredients Water/liquids
- Now add the dry ingredients; primarily this will be the flour. Add the flour gently, so that it evenly covers all of the liquid ingredients. It’s important this layer is even so that liquid will not seep through during baking and affect the yeast. - If using salt or sugar, add to opposite corners of the pan. - Finally, add the yeast. This mustn’t come into contact with the liquid ingredients or the salt and sugar. Make a very small pit in the middle of the top layer of flour with the measuring spoon and place the yeast there.
Extra ingredients - If you wish to add extra ingredients, such as seeds, seasonings, nuts or herbs, you can either do it at this stage, or wait until after kneading. - If you add at this stage, the ingredients will mix completely through the loaf. If you add after kneading, the added ingredients won’t be completely blended-in and will retain more of their natural shape and texture. - If you wait until later in the cycle, listen out for 5 loud beeps. This signals that it’s safe to open the Baking chamber and for you to add extra ingredients, before Make ‘n’ Bake enters the next stage of the preparation cycle. Yeast Sugar
Selecting your programme Dry ingredients Water/liquids - Plug Make ‘n’ Bake in and switch on. A beep will sound and the display will come on. The default setting will appear:
- To choose your setting, press the Menu button repeatedly to count up to the setting you want to use. If you go past the setting you require, keep pressing menu until the counter returns to 1, then you can start to count up again. 06
Size and colour - There are two arrows, one at the top and one at the bottom of the display. These show you the size and colour settings (this is not applicable for every programme). - To change the size setting, press the Size button to move the arrow to either 500g, 750g or 1000g. The time to completion may increase or decrease slightly depending on which size you choose. - To change the colour, press the Colour button to move the arrow to either Light, Medium or Dark.
Delay timer (optional) - Once you have chosen your setting, the minimum programme time will appear on the screen. If you want to delay the time before bread starts to bake, you can use the up or down arrows to change the time it takes until completion. - This setting is ideal if you want to set Make ‘n’ Bake so that it bakes and has bread ready for you when you need it. You can delay the start of baking for up to 15 hours, which means you can set the timer to have bread baked and ready for you when you wake up in the morning.
To start baking… - Simply press down the Start button. You will hear a beep and the programme will begin.
The baking process - Besides the timer countdown, you can track the progress of your ingredients by looking at the labels down each side of the digital screen. - A marker will appear on the left and will move down the list of stages so you can track your baking progress. Depending on which programme you choose, you may not see it pass through every stage.
After kneading – adding ingredients - When kneading is almost completed, you will have the opportunity to add extra ingredients. Make ‘n’ Bake will make five clear beeping sounds. At this point you can open the lid and add any extra ingredients you wish.
07
When baking is complete - Make ‘n’ Bake will emit 10 loud beeping noises once your loaf is ready. It will then switch automatically into Keep Warm mode, which will keep your bread heated for up to an hour, after which it will switch off. - When you are ready to remove your loaf, push the Start button down firmly until it beeps, which will signal that Make ‘n’ Bake is turned off.
Removing your loaf - Using a pair of oven gloves, lift the bread pan handle and turn the pan anti-clockwise until it clicks free, then lift the pan out. Be careful, it will be very hot. - Tip the loaf out of the Bread pan onto a cooling rack. It the bread won’t slide out, use a plastic spatula to smoothe it away from the edges of the pan. - You may find that the Kneading paddle has become stuck in the loaf. You can remove the paddle using the bread hook. Take care as the paddle may be very hot. - Allow the bread to cool for 10 – 20 minutes before serving.
Storage - Because homemade bread is made without preservatives, it has a shorter life span and will stay fresh for approximately 2-3 days. If not serving straight-away, wrap in foil or seal in a plastic bag. - You can freeze the bread, but we advise slicing it first.
Baking Tips - Remove the loaf from Make ‘n’ Bake as soon as possible once the programme cycle is finished to enjoy the best results. - Adding a little oil to the Kneading paddle will make it easier to remove if it gets stuck in your loaf during baking. - Cut butter and other fats into small pieces before adding to the pan. This will help to prevent a large layer of fat accumulating together and inhibiting the baking process. - French bread goes softer quicker than other breads. Serve straight-away if you wish to enjoy its crispy texture.
