Note on transponders and Frequencies
4
These terms for the purpose of these instructions are basically the same item. A transponder on telecommunication satellites is a device that receives and transmits signals. On satellites transmitting television each transponder has one frequency. These frequencies are either horizontal or vertical and have a FEC value and a symbol rate. When you add a new frequency to the box it stores it as a new transponder. Therefore if you want to investigate the frequencies stored you will find them under transponders.
How to Add New Channels Using the Transponder List To do this you need to know the frequency of the channel you want to add including whether the signal is H or V (horizontal or vertical), the symbol rate and the FEC. You can get this information from a list attached to these instructions or going to the internet and accessing Lyngsat Press the menu button (8) Select Installation Enter the code 1111 (press 1 four times) Scroll down the list of satellites with up and down key (4) When you reach the satellite you want to find the channel press ok (1) and it will be highlighted in yellow. Press the green button for the transponder list and you will get this screen
You will note all the channels are marked with a X. This indicates that on saving, all these channels will be saved on your “all television list”. In fact you don’t need all these channels as some of these are encrypted channels and some will be duplicates of the channels you already have on your “all television list” To remove the channels you don’t want, mark each channel that you don’t want with the blue button and you will note that the X disappears from the channels you don’t want. Finally you will have one or more channels that you want marked with X. Press the red button to save these channels. Exit from the menu and go to the all satellite list and you will find the channels you have added.
How to Add To Add Frequencies (Transponders) Press the menu button (8) Select Installation Enter the code 1111 (press 1 four times) Scroll down the list of satellites with up and down key (4) When you reach the satellite you want to add the frequency/transponders press ok (1) and it will be highlighted in yellow. Press the green button for the transponder list and you will get this screen Scroll through the transponder list to the frequency you want. If the frequency you want is not on the list you have to add it to the list. Please go to the next chapter on How to Add To Add Frequencies (Transponders). Assuming the frequency is on the list with the correct parameters (H/V, symbol rate and FEC) and the screen shows that there is signal strength and signal quality, press the red button to scan-
After scanning it will show a list of channels available on this frequency/transponder and you will get this screen.
Press the yellow button to add the frequency. Key in the new frequency and press the red button to save the frequency. Note you cannot add or change the other parameters until you have saved the frequency. The frequency you have added will now appear in the transponder list in its numerical order. Scroll through the transponder list until you find the frequency you have added. You will note that the frequency is correct but the other parameters are either missing or incorrect.

Press the green button to edit and with the volume button go to the blank space and key in the symbol rate and press the red button to save.
red on/off power button flashes. Changing the power supply solves the problem
Press the green button again to edit and with the volume button go to the H/V and if necessary change it to the correct value using the up/down button and press the red button to save. Press the green button again to edit and with the volume button go to the FEC and if necessary put in the correct value using the up / down button and press the red button to save. Note don’t use the AUTO option. You will now have added the new frequency with all the correct parameters and there should be a signal strength and quality showing on the screen. If there is no signal you have probably made an error with the parameters and there is no point scanning for channels
If the box has an internal power supply and the light on the front of the box doesn’t turn green. It means that the internal power supply has failed and has to be repaired Menu Language Has Changed To Spanish This means that the box has gone back to the original factory settings due to a power drop. It will also result in lost channels. To solve this, first change the menu language to English and secondly change the diseqc settings. You will find a chapter on how to do this in these instructions.
PROBLEM SOLVING The first step is turn off the power by pulling the plug out of the socket waiting 1 minute before returning power to the system. Picture Problem
Channels Disappear From favorite List(s) This usually means that the “sort program menu” has been altered. To fix this go to the channel list with missing channels, press the green button (14) to sort and select 123 and press ok.
Check that the scart cable is properly plugged in Resetting the Box to Original settings Signal Problem Check that the antenna cable from the dish is connected properly at the back of the box or it is screwed into the correct connector. This will be marked IF in and or it will be marked with a satellite icon Picture on Screen Jumbled If the picture on the screen is jumbled it is usually caused by two devices using the same AV connection. For example a sky digi box and the illusion box both on at the same time
If having tried to solve your problem and there is still no solution and the box is working albeit problematically. The last resort is to set the box to the original settings. You will be advised to contact Chris before taking this step. Please note:• This will not likely fix the sound, power supply and picture problems. • This will wipe the box clean of all the settings and channels. To reset the box to factory settings go to menu (8) and press configuration and you will get this screen
Sound Problem If there is no sound check the following:• • • •
The mute buttons on both the TV and the illusion box are possibly activated Increase the volume on the TV remote and the illusion box to maximum Check the scart cable Press the button B (9) on the remote
BUZZING SOUND If the TV is buzzing it means the volume is too high on either the illusion receiver and or the TV. Adjusting the volume controls will solve the problem. Power Supply If the illusion receiver is the type illustrated below it has an external power supply. When, these power supplies fail the
Scroll down the list to Factory settings and follow instructions. After the box has been reset do the following • •
Pull the power on the box wait 10 seconds and power it up Change the language to English
6
•
Set the Diseqc to A for Astra 2abd and B for Nilesat Rescan the satellites and add them to the list Rescan TDT if you have a combo box Add the channels you like to the favorite lists
• • •
If none of the above solves the problem call Chris on 680 357 586. Calls late at night and at weekends are not always answered. He could be in the bar or weeding his tomatoes
DON’T FORGET TO FIRST UNPLUG YOUR BOX TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM
