INSPECT (BEFORE USE) • Read and follow all labels and assembly instructions prior to use. To obtain a copy of complete instructions, warnings and labels, please call 1-800-258-8503 or visit us on the internet at www.ezaccess.com. • Check that all parts are in good condition. • Use caution at all times. Proper maintenance and upkeep to the system and all Passport® system components is vital. • Regularly check that all parts are in good condition and check the system for damage. Ensure all fasteners and locking mechanisms are in place and tightened. If any part of the system is damaged, loose, or missing, DO NOT USE until repairs can be made by a certified installer or other qualified person. 3. PROPER SET UP AND USE For residential use only. Metal conducts electricity. Do not use near exposed wiring. DO NOT USE if any part of the system is damaged or unstable. Confirm that the system is correctly leveled and positioned securely. Periodically check for ground shifts. Only use components supplied or approved by manufacturer with system. Never use the Top Landing Gate for uses other than its intended function. Do not modify the Top Landing Gate and latching mechanism. Do not operate the Top Landing Gate latch manually while the VPL is in operation. Never block the Top Landing Gate open or closed. Keep the area around the Top Landing Gate free of debris. Do not play on or around the Top Landing Gate or attach foreign objects to the Top Landing Gate. Keep hands and other body parts clear of pinch points at all times. Use only recommended fasteners and attachment points for anchoring the Top Landing Gate. Call your dealer for service if the Top Landing Gate does not fully close unassisted and DO NOT USE Top Landing Gate until repairs have been completed by a qualified technician. Properly support and restrain system in transit or storage. 4. MAINTENANCE Regularly check that all parts are in good condition and check the system for damage. REMOVING THE EXISTING TOP LANDING GATE AND GATE HINGES 6.1 Remove the post cap from the gate frame post (FIG. 1). 6.2 Loosen or remove the two 5/16” set screws in each hinge connector bar (FIG. 1). 6.3 Slide the entire Top Landing Gate up and out of the gate frame post. Manually rotate the latch out of the way as needed to remove the gate. 6.4 Remove the four 1/4” pan head machine screws, 1/4”- 20 locknuts and 1/4" washers that attach the hinges to the gate (FIG. 2). INSTALLING THE REPLACEMENT HINGES 7.1 Install hinges using the #10-24 x 3-1/2” pan head machine screws, # 10-24 locknuts and #10 washers included in the hinge replacement kit (FIG. 3). Install the #10-24 x 3-1/2” pan head machine screws with the head of the machine screw on the lift side of the Top Landing Gate, the #10 washers under the head and the #10-24 locknuts in the hinge as shown. Regardless of which direction the Top Landing Gate swings, install the replacement hinge with the half including the “nub” on the back to the Top Landing Gate as shown. FIG. 3 Page | 6 7.2 7.3 Attach the replacement hinge connector bars to the replacement hinges using two 1/4”-20 x 5/8” pan head machine screws in the two tapped holes closest to the Top Landing Gate when the hinge connector bars and hinges are oriented as shown (FIG. 4). There are four tapped holes for hinge mounting in the hinge connector bar but only the two closest to the Top Landing Gate are used (depending on which side of the Top Landing Gate the hinges are mounted). The hinge connector bars MUST be installed with the “T” stamped end of the hinge connector bar on top. Insert the 5/16”-18 x 5/8” set screws (included in hinge replacement kit) into the upper and lower tapped holes in each hinge connector bar but do not thread all the way through (FIG. 4). FIG. 4 Page | 7 7.4 7.5 7.6 Slide the entire assembly (Top Landing Gate, hinges and hinge connector bars) back into the channel in the gate frame post from which it was removed (FIG. 5). Align the top of the ring magnet on the latch side of the Top Landing Gate with the bottom of the latch mounting clamp plate and tighten all 5/16”-18 x 5/8” set screws in the hinge connector bars securely (FIG. 5). Replace the post cap on the gate frame post. FIG. 5 7.7 Page | 8 Run the Passport® VPL up and down and test the Top Landing Gate operation as described in Section 6, Steps 12 & 13 of the Passport® VPL Installation Manual (Part No. 12274).
