INSTRUCTIONS Read the instructions and keep them safe. If you pass the appliance on, pass on the instructions too. Remove all packaging, but keep it till you know the appliance works. IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS Follow basic safety precautions, including: 1. Read all instructions. 2. Use iron only for its intended use. 3. To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids. 4. The iron should always be turned to ‘Off ’ before plugging or unplugging from outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect. 5. Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before storage. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing. 6. Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use. 7. Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron. Take it to a qualified serviceman for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used. 8. Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board. 9. Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts. 10. The iron must be used and rested on a stable surface. 11. When placing the iron on its stand, ensure that the surface on which the stand is placed is stable. 12. The iron is not to be used if it has been dropped, if there are visible signs of damage or if it is leaking. 13. To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate another high wattage appliance on the same circuit. 14. If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, a 10-ampere cord should be used. Cords rated for less amperage may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over. 15. Do not let children or untrained persons use the
2
appliance without supervision. 16. Never immerse the iron, cable or plug in any liquid. 17. Do not leave the hot iron touching fabrics or very inflammable surfaces. 18. Do not leave the appliance unnecessarily plugged in. Disconnect the plug from the mains when the appliance is not being used. 19. Never touch the appliance with wet or damp hands. 20. Do not use the power cord or the appliance in order to pull the plug out of the socket. 21. Do not leave the appliance exposed to the weather (rain, sun, etc. ). 22. Do not leave the iron without supervision when it is connected to the power supply. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS When using the iron for the first time, you may notice a slight emission of smoke and hear some sounds made by the expanding plastics. This is quite normal and it stops after a short time. We also recommend passing the iron over an ordinary cloth before using it for the first time. IRONING TEMPERATURE ▪ Always check first if a label with ironing instructions is attached to the article to be ironed .(See table) Follow these ironing instructions in all cases. ▪ If ironing instructions are missing but you know the kind of fabric, then see the table for recommended ironing temperatures. GARMENT LABEL FABRIC TYPE THERMOSTAT REGULATION Synthetic
low temperature
silk - wool
medium temperature
Cotton - linen
high temperature
Fabric not to be ironed
▪ The table is valid for the recommended ironing temperature. ▪ The table is valid for the fiber materials only. ▪ If some kind of finish has been applied (gloss, wrinkle, relief etc,),the textile can best be ironed at a lower temperature. ▪ The iron heats up quicker than it cools down. Therefore, start ironing the articles requiring the lowest temperature such as those made of synthetic fibers. ▪ Then progress to the higher temperatures. Finish by ironing cotton and linen. ▪ If the article is made of a mixture of different fibers, you must always select the lowest ironing temperature of the composition of those fibers. (E.g. an article consisting of “60% polyester and 40% cotton” should be ironed at the temperature indicated for polyester). ▪ If you do not know what kind(s) of fabric(s) the article has been made of, find a spot which will be invisible
3
when wearing or using the article to try out the ironing temperature,(Always start at a low temperature and increase to one which gives the required results). ▪ Iron the reverse side of synthetic materials and silk to prevent shining spots. To prevent staining, do not use the spray on silk or other delicate fabrics. FILLING WITH WATER (FOR SPRAY IRON ONLY) You can fill the water tank with normal tap water. 1. Press the release button and remove the spray unit. 2. Pull out the spray button. 3. Fill the water tank. 4. Replace the spray unit. (Click!”) SETTING THE TEMPERATURE 1. Set the appropriate ironing temperature instructions or in the fabric table by means of temperature dial. 2. Insert the mains plug into the wall socket. The pilot light will now come on 3. When the pilot light has gone out and has come on again you can start ironing. 4. The pilot light will come on from time to time during ironing. This has no effect on the ironing, so simply continue. 5. If you set the temperature control to a lower setting after ironing at a high temperature, do not recommence ironing before the pilot light comes on again. SPRAYING (FOR SPRAY IRON ONLY) At any temperature by pushing on the spray button a couple of times, the laundry can be damped down. WHEN FINISHED IRONING 1. Place the iron on its rear side. 2. Set the temperature dial to position ”MIN”. 3. Remove the mains plug from the wall socket 4. Let the iron cool down for at least 30 minutes. 5. You can wind up the mains cord and then fix cord clip. 6. Store the iron standing on its rear side to prevent damage soleplate. CLEANING Please note: before cleaning the iron in any way, make sure that the appliance plug is not connected to the socket. 1. Any deposits, starch residue or size left on the plate can be removed using a damp cloth or an unabrasive liquid detergent. 2. Avoid scratching the plate with steel wool or metallic objects. 3. The plastic parts can be cleaned with a damp cloth then wiped over with a dry cloth. IRONING TIPS 1. Iron with a straight back, Adjust the height of the ironing board so that the handle of the iron is on the same level as your elbow. 2. Pressing onto the iron is not necessary. Provided that the temperature has been set correctly. Ironing is most
4
effective if the laundry is slightly damp. 3. Never iron areas with traces of perspiration or other marks: the heat of the plate fixes the stains on the fabric, making them irremovable. 4. The size is more effective if you use a dry iron at a moderate temperature: excess heat scorches it with the risk of forming a yellow mark. 5. The heavier the washing machine is loaded, the more garments come out creased. This also happens when the spin drying revolutions are very high. 6. Many fabrics are easier to iron if they are not completely dry. For example, silk should always be ironed damp.
