Product Brief Intel® Remote Management Module Intel® Server Products Intel® Remote Management Module Remote access and management hardware for Intel® Server Products. As a company’s server infrastructure grows, the strain on already-taxed IT staff increases. This is especially true for environments that are geographically dispersed. The need to have dedicated, on-site server administrators for multiple buildings or remote locations can be expensive. However, having direct access to server resources can be critical to ensuring that those systems are running optimally and to remediate any issues that may arise. The Intel® Remote Management Module (Intel® RMM) has been designed to help maximize the efficiency of IT administrators by providing IT staff with remote server management that can be leveraged at nearly every stage in the server lifecycle in businesses of all sizes. It’s all about IT made easy. Use the Intel® RMM for: • Initial server setup, ongoing production monitoring and troubleshooting • Server recovery and maintenance • Email notification of warning or critical events • Secure remote access to full screen KVM features allowing remote monitoring of hardware health, complete power control and software installation maintenance Reduce Server Downtime Recognize emerging trends and respond more quickly. The Intel® Remote Management Module allows server administrators to proactively monitor server system health and help recognize emerging trends before system downtime occurs. By enabling 24/7 access, the Intel RMM gives IT the ability to troubleshoot and respond quickly from virtually any location—even in cases where the server operating system has crashed. Because the Intel RMM supports remote server access, IT expertise can be centralized in a single location and utilized more efficiently. Features and Benefits of the Intel® Remote Management Module Features Benefits Embedded Web Server Connects administrators to remote servers over a secured connection to monitor system health and perform a variety of maintenance tasks with a supported web browser Soft Keyboard via KVM Multiple language support Customized Branding Promotes OEM brand through selection of icons, colors, and logos on user interface Remote KVM Provides full keyboard, mouse, and video access to the server over the LAN Virtual Media Redirection Allows remote OS and/or software installation and maintenance to access locally attached devices such as floppy drives, CD-ROM drives, hard disks, and USB Flash devices Dedicated Network Interface Card Segments management traffic onto dedicated networks for administrative and bandwidth optimization (Not included in some SKU’s. Refer to user guide to see which modules do not contain the dedicated NIC) Security SSL, SSH, KVM Encryption, authentication using OpenLDAP Remote Management, WS-MAN Power control or reset remote servers, monitor system sensors, and view the hardware event log Intel® Remote Management Module System Requirements See product documentation for additional system requirements Supported Intel® Server Boards Intel RMM is supported on most Intel® Server Boards and Systems. There are multiple versions of the RMM module so please check your User Guide for specific platform support before purchasing. Supported Web Browsers • Linux—Firefox* or Mozilla* • Microsoft Windows*—Internet Explorer* 2 Intel® Remote Management Module Help Lower Server Management Costs “reach out” and take control Easy integration with other Intel® Server Products allows seamless remote access and reduces travel time and expense. of a server remotely, as if sitting in the remote branch The Intel RMM can help reduce server management costs by reducing administrative staff and travel costs associated with supporting servers in a geographically dispersed environment. Full remote KVM functionality allows IT administrators to “reach out” and take control of a server remotely, as if they were sitting in the remote branch using a local keyboard, mouse, and monitor. During the KVM session, administrators can also use locally attached USB devices to load necessary software and updates onto the remotely managed server. The operating system can even be reloaded without ever having to visit the remote site. Easy to Set Up and Use Standards-based server management that is easy to install. The Intel RMM installs in a dedicated port on select Intel® server boards in seconds, freeing up precious expansion slots for other uses. Once installed, the board uses its own dedicated IP address. Users can choose to use one of the onboard NICs or if included, the dedicated management NIC. Additionally, the Intel RMM provides remote KVM access via a secured connection using a variety of supported Web browsers. Installation is as simple as plugging in the card, powering up the server, directing a Web browser to the dedicated IP address, and signing in. The Intel RMM integrates easily into environments using additional server management software, such as Intel® System Management Software. What’s more, the user interface is easily customizable through selection of icons, colors, and logos to promote individual OEM brands.
