Overview The VILINK ES170 is an extremely reliable Fiber Optic 10/100M Ethernet Switch and RS-232 Data plug-in module of the 170 traffic signal controller. It is designed to link multiple remote 170 Controllers (slave units) from various Traffic Intersections to the main 170 controller (master unit) at the Traffic Operation Center via one or two single mode fiber optic cables. The ES170 can operate in harsh environment with wide range temperature and compliant to the intelligent traffic system standard NEMA specifications. Combining with its fiber optic interface ports and Vilink 100M Industrial Switches (such as IE206), the ES170 provides excellent 10/100M Ethernet Ring and Self-Healing Data (ODT/R) transmission to all of the 170 controllers in ring. Additional 10/100M Ethernet port provides network connection for CCTV video system, IP cameras and Violation detector IP cameras or to another Ethernet switch. The RS-232 internal data port connected to the 170 controller is capable of transmitting broadcast data through the network with data speed from 75 Bps up to 38.4 Kbps. The ES170 also provides a second data port with RS-232 or RS-422 interface switch selectable for controlling PTZ cameras. Fiber optic ports support one or two fibers ring in Daisy-Chain or Redundant Ring configurations, multimode or single mode with ST or SC connectors, distances up to 40 Km between intersections. In addition, the ES170 unique Ethernet switch supports store-and-forward switching scheme to ensure low latency and high data integrity, eliminating unnecessary traffic and relieving network congestion along critical network paths. With an intelligent address recognition algorithm, the ES170 can recognize up to 4,000 different MAC addresses, enables filtering and forwarding at full wire speed. With 4.5 Gbps non-blocking switching fabric, and spanning tree algorithm, it is easily provided a solid redundant ring operation to the network.
