Our History
Founded in 1920 in Dayton, Ohio, KOLD-DRAFT’s original name was Uniflow for the type of pumps manufactured. In 1926, the plant was moved to its current location in Erie, Pennsylvania. It was from this location that KOLD-DRAFT’s reputation for innovation and pure dependability began.

ICE MAKING DYNAMICS The Kold-Draft process is more complicated than simply freezing water. Kold-Draft’s ‘upside-down’ icemaking process eliminates impurities.Visualize an upside-down ice cube tray. We use a similar ice tray, called an evaporator. The evaporator is refrigerated and has individual ice cube cells. As the pure water circulates continuously through the cell, it forms ice smoothly on the cold surfaces with the pure water freezing first . Evaporator and Water Plate. Evaporator is solid copper and electroplated nickel for greater heat transfer, corrosion resistance and reliable gravity release.
Water is circulated continuously through each freezing cell forming pure ice on the cold surfaces, eliminating air and flushing away impurities. Result is 99.9% pure ice.
