Objectives
The objective is to provide high-speed, reliable and resilient IP traffic exchange facility for both Sudan and external entities, allowing them to route IP traffic efficiently thereby providing faster, more reliable and lower-latency Internet access for their customers.
Introduction to Internet Exchange Points
An Internet exchange point (IXP) is a physical infrastructure that allows several Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and network operators to exchange traffic between their networks, by means of mutual peering agreements, which allow traffic to be exchanged at no cost.
What is an Exchange Point
Sudan Internet Exchange Point (SIXP) is an initiative of the local Internet community in Sudan with a common purpose to encourage the exchange of Internet traffic (IP traffic) in a free-market environment between all interested parties
Internet Exchange Points National Information Center is considering establishing Sudan internet Exchange Point (SIX) including a Data Center with a professional 24/7 NOC.
National Information Center Intiative Connecting local ISP among themselves. Avoiding the unnecessary use of the international bandwidth of the country by keeping the local Internet traffic at local level. Promoting the implementation of new services and the development of local contents. National Information Center considered establishing Sudan internet Exchange Point (SIX) including a Data Center with a professional 24/7 NOC.

Design shows the worst‐case scenario of an Internet without peering before SIXP: traffic from one local ISP to another must pass up and down through several tiers of transit providers

Why use an IXP?
SAVES MONEY!!!
Traffic going overseas means transit charges paid to upstream ISP Money stays in local economy
Used to provide better local infrastructure and services for customers
Customers pay less for Internet access
Therefore more customers sign up ISP has more customers, better business
Network Operation Centre
Network Operation Centre (NOC) provides around-the-clock proactive monitoring to SIXP network, hosted applications, and services. The NOC provides the capability for effective service-based monitoring for the Service Providers (SP) community. To meet the ever-increasing challenges of maintaining a stable, reliable, technology environment for its customers, National Information Center had to establish a state-ofthe-art operations centre.

two 7606 Cisco routers two processor (7606S‐RSP720CXL) and two power supply for redundancy and one 24 1GB Fiber ports switch (Requires SFP) and one 24 100/1000 MB Ethernet port switch.

Traffic Analysis We use some of the standard tools that monitor SNMP network devices and draw pretty pictures showing how much traffic has passed through each interface.
National Hosting
Some services have the flavor of being national … meaning that they are offered to all Sudanese nationals. An example is the federal government departments’ web sites. Having SIXP to serve as the interconnection point for all operators and service providers makes it the best spot to offer hosting facilities for the government departments.
