iPad Information 2015 – 2016 School Year for Intermediate / Junior High School (Current Grades 4, 5, 6, 7) As HSE expands the 1:1 program, each student in grades 5 - 8 will use an iPad during their day at school. Families may rent an iPad from HSE or provide their own device. Rental Option • Rental from HSE will be a 16GB iPad Retina or newer model Cost: $125 per year (includes iPad, insurance, case, charging cord and brick) Family Provided Option If families choose to purchase their own iPad, for the following device specifications are required: • • • Model Requirement: iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 (iPad Retina), iPad Air, iPad Air 2 Memory Size: 16 GB or greater Internet: Firewalls and filters will enable secure use of wifi at school. Therefore, no additional purchase of data plans/cellular/3G/LTE connection is needed. Visit http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/academics/hse21/ to find more information about HSE’s 1:1 program. Parents of current seventh graders are in a unique situation, as students must use an iPad as an 8th grader, but can bring any appropriate device as a 9th grader as described below. Families may wish to rent for a year or two and then decide what device to provide their student for use in high school. 2015 – 2016 School Year for High School (Current Grades 8 – 11) As part of the HSE21 initiative, Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern High Schools will implement a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program next school year. Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, all students in grades 9-12 will be required to bring a personal computing device to use at school daily. The device may be any brand of tablet or laptop with at least a 9” screen. Smartphones and iPad Minis do not meet device requirements. Firewalls and filters will enable secure use of wifi at school. Therefore, no additional purchase of data plans/cellular/3G/LTE connection is needed. Devices MUST have the following OS versions in order to connect to school wifi: • Windows Vista (any version) • Windows 7 or later • Mac OSX 10.6 or better • iOS 8 or newer • Android OS (running Ice Cream Sandwich or newer) • Chrome OS We recommend the following laptop hardware specifications: • CPU - Dual/Multi-Core Processor, 2GHz or higher • Memory - 2 GB or more • Hard Drive - 128 GB or more • Display - 9” minimum • Video - Video Card with 128 MB or Opermore • Wireless - 802.11g/n • Operating System - Windows 7 or Mac OSX Battery - Recommend extended battery or backup battery if possible
