SAFETY and WARNINGS The Model IR7C Ink Drying System is designed for safe operation, when properly connected to a compatible conveyor model. However; installation, maintenance, and operation of the Model IR7C Ink Drying System can be dangerous for a careless operator or maintenance person. For your safety and the safety of others, before using this product, please read this manual completely, heed all CAUTION and WARNING labels, and follow these safety practices which will help to prevent accident or injury.
General Safety Precautions • • • • •
BURN HAZARD. Do not touch the dryer housing or infrared lamps. The Infrared lamps temperature may exceed 500° F. Contact with the lamps will cause severe BURNS. Even if the lamps are cool; do not touch the infrared lamps with bare hands. Doing so will deposit oils on the lamps and cause the lamps to fail prematurely. Allow the lamps to cool before moving the dryer. FIRE HAZARD. Flammable objects may ignite if they are left under the lamps for too long. If the conveyor jams or a media jam occurs under the dryer; immediately turn OFF the dryer and carefully remove the jam before proceeding.
Electrical Safety • • •
There is a danger of electrical shock when servicing the drying module. Even when the ON/OFF rocker switch is in the OFF position, there is live HIGH VOLTAGE (up to 120V) present at the power entry of the fused IEC power connector. Unplug the dryer before performing any maintenance/service. Do not allow liquids to contact the dryer, lamps, or dryer housing. If a liquid is accidently spilled onto or into the dryer, immediately unplug the power cord from the dryer and call for service. Do not reconnect the dryer until it has been inspected and serviced by a qualified service person.
WARNING! • • • • • • • • •
ALWAYS connect the dryer to the appropriate outlet on the compatible conveyor. This is a switched outlet that will shut off the dryer if the conveyor is shut off. NEVER connect the dryer directly to a wall outlet. Doing so creates a safety hazard and may cause damage to the conveyor. ALWAYS use the properly rated power cord supplied with the dryer. NEVER run the machine with the fan cover on the dryer removed, or with the heater raceway covers removed. ALWAYS disconnect the power cord prior to servicing the machine. ALWAYS disconnect the power cord before installing or changing lamps. NEVER place any part of your body under the heating lamps. ALWAYS allow lamps to cool at least 10 minutes before servicing lamps or adjacent parts. After the lamps have cooled; use cotton gloves when touching lamps. NEVER allow the dryer to operate un-attended. The operator must be present at all times!

UNPACKING: WARNING: REMOVE FOAM SHIPPING INSERTS PRIOR TO OPERATION All dryers are shipped with foam inserts over the ends of the infrared lamps. These inserts are located under the raceway covers. This foam insert is only for shipping and MUST be removed prior to operation. Instructions: Make sure the power cord is disconnected from the dryer. On each end of the dryer, remove the 4 screws that secure the raceway covers. Remove the raceway covers. Remove the packaging material (foam shipping inserts) on both sides of the dryer. Re-attach the raceway covers using the four screws. Save the packing material for possible future use.

SETUP & USE: WARNING! HIGH TEMPERATURES The Infrared lamps temperature may exceed 500° F. Contact with the lamps will cause severe BURNS. Flammable objects may ignite if they are left under the lamps for too long. REMOVE FOAM SHIPPING INSERTS PRIOR TO OPERATION See unpacking section for removal instructions.
Mount dryer onto conveyor: If the dryer was purchased at the same time the conveyor was purchased; the dryer will normally be mounted onto the conveyor by your authorized Rena Systems Dealer. Please refer to your conveyor’s operating instructions for additional details.

Connect dryer power cord to conveyor: The power cord, supplied with the dryer, must be connected to the appropriate outlet on your conveyor. Please refer to your conveyor’s operating instructions, to identify the proper “dryer power connection” location on your conveyor. WARNING: Do NOT connect the dryer directly to a wall outlet. Doing so creates a safety hazard and may cause damage to the conveyor.

Operation:
Position the dryer so it is located above your printed media’s “image area”. Power the conveyor ON and set the desired media transport speed. The media transport speed should be set to provide adequate ink drying time. Drying times will vary greatly. They are dependent on many factors including dryer power, type of media, type of ink being used, and print quality setting. Power the dryer ON using the power switch. The power switch is located on the side of the dryer, where the power cord attaches to the dryer. The power switch will illuminate and the fan will run, when power has been applied to the dryer. Note: When the dryer has been properly connected to the conveyor; the dryer can only be powered on if the conveyor is also powered on. This is a safety feature. It prevents the possibility of accidently leaving the dryer on when the conveyor belts are not moving.
Incase of a Jam: • Immediately turn OFF the dryer. The dryer can be turned OFF by turning the conveyor or dryer power switch to OFF. • Verify that the conveyor’s power switch is also OFF, and then carefully remove the jam. • After the jam has been removed you can turn on the conveyor’s power switch and then the dryer’s power switch.
