iSwitch Orbital At-the-Dish, Standalone Redundancy Controller Orbital Research Ltd 14239 Marine Drive, White Rock, B.C. Canada V4B 1A9 No indoor controller required. Accessible from the internet through your computer, laptop or smart phone. All monitoring and control can be accessed through the internet or:  RS232  RS485  Ethernet Our iSwitch module is an ODU controller for Redundant LNB or BUC systems. The main advantage of this product is that it removes the need for an internal controller (IDU), expensive installation and cabling. All M & C signals can be accessed via the internet on a computer or smart phone with associated app. Adds redundancy to any existing system without added coax, control cabling or rack space. Because of its size, the iSwitch can fit into a wider range of antenna systems. LNB neutral Same    box can be used for: C, X, Ku or Ka BUC universal, remote redundancy BDCs Multiple sensing options including:     BITE Current sensing window (automatic switch) System voltage monitoring Loss of Lock alarms Technical Sales contacts: Doug Macdonald 1-647-992-1210 [email protected] David Zuvic 1-604-856-0305 [email protected] Mechanical and Description Modular Block Unobtrusive size & weight Easy interface to any of the standard waveguide switches or LNBs. Allows installation on smaller VSATs. Flexible Mounting Options IP 67 Ingress Protection Rating Can be mounted as close to or as far from the feed as required. 6 – Totally protected against dust 7 – Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m Efficient Power Management Data Channel Ensures that the DC is capable of going up a standard coax cable. No separate monster cable required to power the waveguide switch. Multiplexed with all the control and monitoring signals directly onto the IFL cable. One of our MT433 modules can be utilized at the modem end to extract the data signal for processing. Conventional Redundancy Switch Design vs iSwitch Conventional Design example Modem LNB Mux/Tees, Splitters, etc. Switch Indoor Redundant Controller LNB BITE Space Saving 1 cable IFL and offline thread testing capability. The iSwitch uses about as much space as the Mux/Tees, etc., Splitters, replacing them as well as the indoor controller. The iSwitch IFL only needs the one (existing) coax to carry the L-Band signal, monitor & controller signals, and DC (for LNBs, iSwitch, waveguide switch). No Indoor Controllers The iSwitch replaces the indoor controller and can interface directly with the modem and any computer or smart phone device. The MT433 multiplexes the monitor and control signals (plus 10 MHz and DC if needed) onto the LBand, coax line. Data channel LNB iSwitch ODU Controller Switch LNB iSwitch Design example Modem MT433 SuperCaps allow trickle voltage from the modem. Current is low enough to be able to use a standard coax cable (generally 18VDC, <200 mA). L-Band Wired Diagram LNBs (or BUCs) Can be supplied by customer or Orbital. Waveguide switch Can be supplied by customer or Orbital. L-Band, DC and 10 MHz signal (if needed). Can come in varying lengths. Customizable ports Single Conductor Coax Required for the IFL. It will carry the L-Band (10 MHz if required), DC and control/sensing signals. LNB 1 iSwitch Redundant Controller LNB 2 Waveguide Switch Cable Only powers and monitors the switch position. The cable can come in varying lengths since they only carry DC and monitor signals. Retrofit to non-redundant systems Because the iSwitch only needs one coax cable for its entire IFL, it can be easily retrofitable into nonredundant systems without the need to add a control, power or second coax cable. SuperCap In the iSwitch module only requires a trickle charge so the voltage drop on the cable is minimal, but can provide up to 10 Amps, enough for C-Band switches. MT433 Modem Long Cable Runs Most modems can supply the minimal amount of DC power (18VDC, <200mA) required to charge the Super Capacitor. BUC Redundancy Features Super Caps store charge at dish to switch waveguide so modem is not required to provide large currents. Low Current draw (<200 mA) even during switching. The iSwitch can also be used for redundant BUCs. To prevent short circuiting, BUC power can be dropped (by inhibiting the 10 MHz) prior to switch. Enables the use of low cost, low power BUCs - PTT (push to talk). Current Draw Monitoring Current window used for fault detection. Super Caps can supply up to 10 Amps (good for WR229 switches) Over current shut down possible. Open circuit detection possible. Super Cap Voltage Monitored Super Caps can switch the waveguide switch more than 50 times on a single charge (depending on the waveguide type). Alarm if Super Caps aren’t charging or over discharged. One Cable Coax No need for separate power or signal cable. All signals are multiplexed onto 1 coax cable. Loss of Lock Alarm is possible using custom Orbital LNB which increases current on Loss of Lock. IDU Voltage Monitored High/Low thresholds settable. Custom alarms available from web interface. On the boom of offset antennas. Mounting Options. King post mounted on small dishes. In the Hub of a Cassagrain or Gregorian Antenna Ordering Information You can contact us for a quote or fill out one of the questionnaires below When requesting a Quote The following information will help us in providing a quote: 1. Do you want us to quote: a. the Standalone iSwitch, b. the iSwitch and Waveguide (baseball) switch, c. the iSwitch and our LNBs (we don’t produce our own BUCs), or d. the complete iSwitch redundancy system (iSwitch, Waveguide Switch & LNBs) 2. If using our LNBs, are they External Reference or PLL? (They are different prices.) 3. What type of feed (OMT if in system) and antenna are you using? (To figure out mounting, weight, cable lengths – logistics. It may affect the quote.) When Ordering The following information will help us in supplying the correct configuration when ordering: 1. Metric or SAE measurements? 2. LNB to line up in E-plane or H-plane? There may not be an option here. 3. If not using our LNBs or are using BUCs, please supply the model number. To ensure adequate power and proper current window setup. Orbital Research Ltd. designs and builds products for satellite communications applications. Orbital website: www.orbitalresearch.net.
