IxCatapult LTE eNode B User Plane Validation IxCatapult™ LTE eNode B User Plane Validation 3GPP Release 8 introduces a new radio access technology called Long Term Evolution (LTE). The new LTE network presents many new testing challenges including new elements and increased bandwidth demand. One of these new network elements is the eNode B (eNB), a single radio access network (RAN) node that interfaces with the user equipment (UE). With the IxCatapult test system, Ixia is well suited to LTE testing and specifically the eNB. A key area for eNB testing is validation of user plane traffic. The IxCatapult supports eNB user plane validation with a range of traffic generation and analysis testing tools. These tools are easily integrated with control plane test scripts through the S1, X2 and Uu interfaces. The flexibility of the IxCatapult allows users to easily control traffic types and levels on a per call basis, both at set up and at run time. Included as part of the IxCatapult are standard tools for collecting runtime statistics and for statistical analysis. These tools are configurable for customized analysis. The IxCatapult is a multi-protocol, multi-user test system, consisting of hardware and software (e.g. tools, utilities, encoder/decoders/state machines) to perform a broad range of LTE eNB testing activity. From simple functional and negative testing, to entity integration testing, and extensive stress testing, the IxCatapult is a comprehensive test solution. LTE eNode B User Plane Validation Tools: Key Features: • Test capability of eNB to transmit/route the bearer traffic on S1, X2 and Uu interfaces ƒƒ Validation of the concurrent support of multiple media streams per UE  -  RTP, UDP, TCP ƒƒ Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT)/ Block Error Rate Testing (BLERT) ƒƒ Quality of Service (QoS)  -  rate control of GBR (Guaranteed Bit Rate), MBR (Maximum Bite Rate) and AMBR (Aggregate Maximum Bit Rate) ƒƒ Packet analysis (delay, packet loss, jitter) in all directions ƒƒ Voice/Audio (AMR NB/WB, G.711, G.729, G.723, G.726) traffic generation  -  all directions ƒƒ Video (H.261, H.263, MPEG-2, MPEG-4) traffic generation  –  all directions ƒƒ Support of ‘any IP’ (IP Pass-through) live applications (FTP, HTTP, proprietary applications) issued to/from a simulated UE via simulation on S1, X2 and Uu ƒƒ Support for IPv4, IPv6 and IPsec ƒƒ SIP/SDP sessions simulation and analysis • Security ƒƒ Validate eNB Packet Data Control Protocol (PDCP) user plane IP Robust Header Compression (ROHC), RRC ciphering and integrity protection ƒƒ Validate NAS signaling security (confidentiality and integrity protection) • IxCatapult Traffic Generator  -  produces voice and video traffic according to various CODEC definitions into multiple individual bearer streams. Users can either select from pre-coded frame samples or supply voice or video files in a supported format (.wav, .mpg) for conversion to a coded stream. Bearer traffic is inserted into the user specified channels with the data profile, packet size and rate defined by the original sample. • IxCatapult X•Stream  -  generates high levels of fixed frame packet traffic on the S1 and X2 interfaces, generating tens of thousands of bearer connections on a single IxCatapult Gigabit Ethernet interface (aggregate of 3.5+ Gb/s per interface). Control and configuration of traffic patterns is possible through the user interfaces. Statistical displays show connection counts, packet transmit and receive rates. • IxCatapult IP Pass-through  -  allows real IP based client and/or server application to connect to each other through a device or network under test. Internal applications running on the IxCatapult and external IP applications such as FTP, HTTP and Skype™ can exchange data through the eNB.
