A VoIP hard phone is a specialized IP telephony desk phone. It looks and sounds like a regular telephone but does not connect to a telephone line. Instead it connects to an IP network.
A soft phone is a program that enables IP telephony telephone calls from a laptop or desktop PC. When using a soft phone, you need a headset. The interface between the headset and the computer is either a USB adaptor or a Wireless interface like Bluetooth.
