January 22, 2002 Digicom presents VoiceGATE, the innovative solution for the Voice over IP (VoIP) Strong with experience, matured as the technological partner of the largest worldwide telecomunication operators, Digicom presents the evolution of their solution for the Voice over IP (VoIP). From the development of a unique hardware and firmware platform, (Digicom has also developed stacks of protocol and integrated them with the most innovative techonolgies like WirelessLAN and the PowerLine) three architecturally diverse commercial products dedicated to the market of small and medium sized businesses and to the soho called VoiceGATE. The first product based on the Digicom hardware ad firmware platform is considered the “custom” version dedicated to the grand reality of the need in telecommunications for a highly modifiable product according to the specific demands. The second version is directed to Telecom Operators with many innovations that intend to bring to homes or offices a new gerneration of telephone boxes that allow the integration of the Voice (VoIP) and internet. The third version of the product is dedicated instead to small and medium sized companies and to the network installers, defined as Router VoIP, is the most pliable and has multiple options made according to demand, which the internal index, and the ASDL or other modules, make up those of PowerLINE. VoiceGATE comes supplied with three Ethernet ports 10/100 for the local connection (for example PC or Mac), two analog ports and optionally bus SO ISDN. With this last possibility, the VoiceGATE adds two RJ45 ports allowing for the ISDN telephone connection. To connect to the back of the network (Uplink) VoiceGATE comes supplied in different versions with the 10/100BT port, or a xDSL link. The additional previewed models are useful to link up onto electric lines, powerLINE, onto fiber optic lines and also WirelessLAN in standard 802.11B. The winning element that distinguishes VoiceGATE from its competitors is, given the fact that, to differentiate the products of todays market, that forsees the presence of an expensive router to the interior of the building and of a box with the capacity to switch with every user, the Digicom VoiceGATE allows the integrated Router to work. This peculiarity allows the web to be redesigned and to obtain noteable and immediate savings, especially in the initial phases. Thanks to the ability to route through the same box, it is possible to substitute the expensive router connected to the backbone with an economic switch. The architectural hardware of the Digicom VoiceGATE utilizes the fast microprossor ARM9 of the most recent generation of 140 Mips that guarantees in Router form, unique to its genere, a throughput in full-duplex better that 15 Mbit/s. Digicom VoiceGATE: Technical Characteristics VoiceGATE can work with the Routing IP that has compatible RIPv1 protocalls and RIPv1. Also available are all the functions of DHCP, NAT, TFTP, and SNMP allowing complete long-distance management. Furthermore, VoiceGATE has an Ethernet switch which isolates the local traffic without weighing down the internal router and for easier management, it can be configured in WEB based mode. Voice Over IP The VoIP functions can connect to up to two analog devices (telephone, modem or fax) using the G.711, G.723.1 and G.729 A protocols, for all Voice functions. The G.711 (A-law, m-law 64 Kbps uncompressed) protocols are compatible with the functions of the modem or fax. Moreover, to reduce the use of necessary bands and to guarantee the best presentation of the Voice functions, VoiceGATE is compatible with VAD (Voice Activity Detector) and CNG (Comfort Noise Generation). The implementation of digital filters according to the standards of ITU-T G.165 and G.168 allow VoiceGATE to reduce the Echo effects and the delay of Voice propagation. All the supporting Voice fuctions and VoiceGATE use the standards H.323v3 and those similar, like the H.225 for the procedure of registration and call signals, the H.245 for the control signals and the T.120 protocol for the Data Conferencing. ISDN Interface The VoiceGATE ISDN Interface is able to connect to two ISDN telephones connected to the BUS S0. Thanks to the ISDN porte one can also supply VoiceGATE to offices or to businesses that are ISND equipped (central lines, telephones, termanal adaptors, etc.) without having to change hardware.
WAN Interface VoiceGATE can self interface to the backbone of the web using differnt technologies. Along with the basic WAN Ethernet 10/100BT interface version, other types of interfaces are being developed, like ASDL, HSDL and Home PNA. In fact, thanks to all the experience and to the know-how of Digicom in the sector of telecommunications it is possible to integrate any of these technologies to adapt to specific demands of the telephone provider. In particular, the version with the ASDL Interface will be able to support the standard Full-Rate (to 8Mbit/s) that the G.lite (1.5 Mbit/s). They will also be compatabile with the standard RFC-2364 (PPP over ATM), RFC-1577 (IP over ATM), RFC-1438 (Bridge Ethernet over ATM) based on the specific requests of the provider.
