Tips ‘N’ Tales The voice of the WEST JERSEY SKI CLUB
Volume 50 Number 3
January / February 2016
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Greetings fellow skiers and welcome to 2016! I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season with lots of good cheer. We could all use more of the good cheer stuff as we ponder the next several weeks and what they will bring. Santa may have brought lots of good things but he didn’t pull any cold or snow behind his sleigh$.yet. That will not stop my enthusiasm, please read on! We are rapidly approaching the first of our three day trips, mid week day trips to Camelback and Mountain Creek followed by a Saturday trip to Plattekill. These trips will provide an introduction for new members to the fun of a bus trip away from the daily routine. At this point we have many new members who have joined with us to get out and ski. Several have signed up for the trips but we still need more participants. While the snow hasn’t started to fall, please take a look at these trips and try to support them. Their success significantly affects the future of the club and the trips we are able to offer in the future. If you know of anyone who is not a member and might be interested in trying a single day trip with the club, encourage them to join for a $5.00 one day fee and then the cost of the trip. We will still be accepting sign-ups for Camelback and all other day trips at the January meeting. As to the rest of my enthusiasm, it springs from joining with my family and preparations for the upcoming season. Our three daughters and their husbands are all looking forward to getting out on the slopes as soon as conditions permit. The past couple of years we have also been joined by our three grandchildren from Reading, Karin’s kids and this year all of us will be joined by Kristin’s sons to make a total of 13 in the family entourage. Regardless of how easy it is to get down in the dumps with our immediate weather conditions, I can still get excited being around the kids as their excitement can be contagious. I will try to pass that along to everyone else and make the best of the season as we get underway. According to the early reports, the mountain operators are doing their best to get snow on the slopes; our jobs will be to get out there and support their efforts by making the best of what they have to offer. Have a great season! Rick

Hello Everyone, Camelback (finally) posted the rates for this season. We had used last years rates when pricing this trip but they have gone up by three dollars. So sorry, Thank you, Kristin The first day trip of the season, no pressure right? We never know what the winter has in store for us, we specifically chose Camelback with the confidence we will have a great time no matter what the weather is like in Burlington County. Why? Camelback has 100% snowmaking with 34 trails & 10 lifts offering a wide variety of challenges for those that want them and great space to learn for those just getting into this
great sport! This means we should be able to ski and have a great time no matter what we might think ahead of time! [email protected] for more information. This trip will provide the opportunity for families to celebrate the end PLATTEKILL, NY of a first season of family skiing; or simply to spend quality time with FEB. 20 children and grandchildren on a day's bus trip to a mountain that (SATURDAY) (by many reliable accounts) is not overcrowded on weekends and $110* has a very laid back environment for families to enjoy. It offers a Includes: the bus ride, lift ticket, nice mix of terrain for skiing families, an inexpensively priced option continental breakfast on the way for people of any age to give skiing a first try or a three hour tubing up, light dinner on the way home option for the committed non-skier. For non-skiing family members that want to simply see the (you shouldn’t be hungry afterward)! surroundings that skiers enjoy, they can ride along on the bus, and get a good view of our environment surrounded by the beautiful Catskill Mountains and watch family members have great time. At the end of the day, we can all enjoy a toast or two to a good day, dress the littlest ones in PJ's, get on the bus for the ride home, contemplating a great day of skiing that all will have enjoyed while interacting in a way that doesn't come along often. Yes, it's almost 4 hours on a bus, each way. It's not cheap—skiing isn't and we don't do it to save money plus it’s a Saturday, things always cost more on the weekend! Kids can get cranky! But, they will have memories that will last a lifetime. *As you investigate this trip at our meetings, you will see that the pricing is a bit complex because of all of the options. I will ask that you complete a sign-up sheet so that I can give you an accurate price for the people in your group, given all of the options. I look forward to providing a great trip for all. Hope you can join us. Trip Leader:Rick Guenther; 609-261-1434; email:
