Release Summary
When you update from FliteDeck Pro 8.0, saved flights and any user-defined waypoints that are part of the route are preserved. The term upgrade refers to the act of installing a later version over a previous version without first uninstalling the previous version. If you uninstall the app before you install a later version, you lose all saved data.

What’s New
What’s New With this release, Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro introduces several enhancements and addresses a variety of known issues and change requests. See the Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro 8.1 User Guide for more information. The changes in this release focus on four areas: • Additional Touch Screen Gestures • Additional Toolbar Buttons • Enroute View Enhancements • Terminal Chart View Enhancements
Additional Touch Screen Gestures Double-Tap to Zoom Out With FliteDeck Pro 8.1, you can double-tap one finger to zoom out to the full extent of your route (in Enroute view) or to the full extent of the chart (in Terminal Charts view).
One- and Two-Finger Swipes With this release, you can use one- and two-finger swipes to perform different tasks: • Use a one-finger swipe to pan the enroute map and terminal charts. You also use one finger to scroll through your chart clip when the number of charts extends beyond the edge of the screen. • Use a two-finger swipe to flip through your selected terminal charts and change which chart appears. Depending on your zoom level, you might need to pan to the edge of the chart to swipe to the next chart.

What’s New
Additional Toolbar Buttons Adjusting Brightness and Night Theme The FliteDeck Pro toolbar now includes a Brightness button. Use it to adjust the screen brightness, and to turn on Night Theme, which adjusts the display for optimal viewing in low-light conditions.
Identifying GPS Status With this release, FliteDeck Pro now supports GPS functionality. The GPS Status button appears on the FliteDeck Pro toolbar if your device is paired with a functioning GPS receiver and you have either or both of the following settings set to On in the FliteDeck Pro app settings. • Enable Moving Map • Display Ownship on Airport Diagram Tap the GPS Status button to view the current ground speed, GPS altitude, last position received, and accuracy status. A badge appears over the GPS Status button if the GPS signal does not meet the minimum accuracy requirement. Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro displays the ownship symbol when the GPS signal is within: • 200 meters of the aircraft’s current position for the enroute map. • 17 meters of the aircraft’s current position for an airport diagram.

What’s New
Enroute View Enhancements Changing Map Orientation With the introduction of GPS functionality, you can now change the enroute map orientation to either North Up or Track Up. To change orientation, tap the North Up/Track Up button. To use Track Up, your device must have GPS capability and you must switch Enable Moving Map to On in FliteDeck Pro app settings.
Displaying the Ownship Symbol You can now display the ownship symbol on the Enroute map to indicate the present position of the aircraft. The ownship symbol is available if both Enable Moving Map and Display Ownship on Enroute are set to On in the FliteDeck Pro app settings and the minimum GPS accuracy requirement is met. When valid ownship position and heading information is available, Enroute displays a directional ownship symbol, which has a triangular shape. The tip of the ownship symbol indicates estimated position. When position information is valid but track and heading information is not available, Enroute displays a nondirectional ownship symbol, which has a circular shape. The symbol center indicates estimated position.
Viewing Present Position To recenter the map over your aircraft position after you have panned away, tap the Present Position button. The Present Position button is available in the Enroute view if both Enable Moving Map and Display Ownship on Enroute are set to On in the FliteDeck Pro app settings and the minimum GPS accuracy requirement is met.

What’s New
Determining Distance with the Offset Indicator If you are displaying the ownship symbol and turn on range rings, a distance indicator appears if the ownship is outside of the centermost ring. The indicator indicates the exact distance from the center of the ring to the ownship symbol. You can determine the distance and direction from your aircraft to any other object on the map by panning the map so the object appears in the centermost ring. The offset indicator shows the distance and direction to your aircraft position.
Enroute View App Settings With the introduction of moving map and ownship functionality, two new options are available in the Enroute View section of the FliteDeck Pro app settings. The Enroute View settings are set to Off by default. • To turn on the moving map, switch Enable Moving Map to On. The enroute map now moves under your present location. With the moving map enabled, you can track your aircraft along its route of flight, recenter the enroute map over your present position, and view the enroute map in Track Up orientation. Note that the Moving Map feature also requires a reliable GPS signal. • To display ownship position on the enroute map, switch Display Ownship on Enroute to On. NOTE
Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes
Centering the map over aircraft location and displaying the ownship symbol on the enroute map are both designed to improve situational awareness during enroute flight. Do not use these functions as the basis for navigation. Appropriate training and procedures emphasize set up and operation such that the display does not become a distraction or increase heads-down time. Operators might require additional authorizations to use these functions.

What’s New
Terminal Chart View Enhancements Highlighting a Chart With FliteDeck Pro 8.1, you can highlight areas of the terminal chart by tapping the Highlight button and then using your finger as a highlighter pen. Highlights persist on the chart until you remove the highlights or update the chart.
Displaying the Ownship Symbol on an Airport Diagram You can now display the ownship symbol on an airport diagram to indicate the present position of the aircraft. The ownship symbol shows the present position of the aircraft. Ownship position appears on the airport diagram when all of these conditions apply: • Your device has GPS functionality. • The aircraft is within the boundaries of the airport diagram. • Display Ownship on Airport Diagram is set to On in the FliteDeck Pro app settings. • The aircraft is moving no faster than the speed specified in the Taxi Diagram Speed Threshold in FliteDeck Pro settings. • The minimum GPS accuracy requirement is met.

What’s New
Terminal Charts View Settings With the introduction of GPS and ownship functionality, additional Terminal Charts View settings were added to the FliteDeck Pro app settings. The Terminal Charts View options are set to Off by default. • To display ownship position on an airport diagram, switch Display Ownship on Airport Diagram to On. • To display the airport diagram automatically upon landing, switch Show Taxi Diagram on Landing to On. When enabled, Terminal Charts displays the default airport diagram (taxi diagram) when the device is within four nautical miles of an airport reference point (ARP). • Taxi Diagram Speed Threshold is the aircraft speed at which, if enabled, the automatic switch to an airport diagram occurs. The speed threshold is also the speed at which the ownship appears on the airport diagram. You can optimize this setting for your aircraft by adjusting the threshold speed. Values range from 30 to 80 knots. The setting is 40 knots by default.

Issues Resolved in This Release This section describes the key software issues that were resolved. Changes include minor enhancements and fixes to reported issues.
During Initial Registration, App Displays a CDL Error Message (WINRT-1229) Issue: After performing a clean installation, during the registration process, users sometimes receive a CDL error message that indicates that the system has timed out. Users must quit the app and restart to continue the registration process. Resolution: The issue has been resolved. Users no longer receive this error.
Airports Entered as Alternates in Enroute View Sometimes Do Not Appear in Terminal Charts View (WINRT-827) Issue: When users enter alternate airports and then try to access the associated terminal charts, the app sometimes doesn’t show charts for the alternates. Resolution: The issue has been resolved. Users can now display the charts associated with the alternate airports that they specify.
When a Manual is Opened in Split View, Displayed Charts Do Not Resize Correctly (WINRT-3985) Issue: When users open a manual in Split view, any charts that are currently displayed should resize. Known Limitations
Known Limitations This section describes the known limitations to the Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro 8.1 release.
GPU Crash with nVidia GeForce Cards (WINRT-3612) Issue: Users whose computers are equipped with nVidia GeForce graphics cards can experience a GPU crash after they view a large number of term charts or swipe very quickly through a large number of charts (20+). The crash causes both Enroute and TermCharts to stop rendering content. Mitigation: Restart the application. NVIDIA and Microsoft are aware of the problem and are working on it, but no resolution is currently available.
Entering Airports as Navaids (WINRT-714) Issue: When you enter an airport code as a navaid in the route drawer, the app does not include the airport as a route airport in Term Charts view. Mitigation: To add an airport as a route airport after you have already entered origin and destination airports, first enter it as an alternate (in the Alternate box); and then add it to the route (either by adding it to the route string, or selecting it on the map and choosing Add to Route from the dialog box).
Opening Manuals in Word (WINRT-1204) Issue: When you attempt to use Microsoft Word to open a manual in PDF format, FliteDeck Pro behaves unpredictably. Mitigation: Avoid using Word to open manuals. Use a PDF reader such as Acrobat reader instead.
Lengthy App Start-Up Times with Large TC and Enroute Databases (WINRT-2017) Issue: Depending on the size of your data subscriptions, you might experience lengthy app start-up times—the larger the database, the longer time necessary to start FliteDeck Pro. Mitigation: No mitigation currently exists.

13
Known Limitations
Extra Step Required to Enter Airports that Share Names with Waypoints (WINRT-3947) Issue: If you attempt to enter an airport in the airport boxes in the route drawer, and that airport has the same name as other waypoints in the database, after the app displays the dialog box that prompts you to select a specific airport, the app might display an additional dialog box that prompts you to specify a waypoint. Mitigation: No mitigation currently exists.
Unable to Quit the Update Dialog Box after a Network Interruption (WINRT-4016) Issue: If network connectivity is lost during the data update process, the app displays error message 129. When you click OK to acknowledge the error, FliteDeck Pro redisplays the Update dialog box. The Close button is disabled. Mitigation: Tap Refresh. The app now enables both the Cancel button and the Close button.
App Indicates an Invalid Airport When a Valid Airport Name is Entered (WINRT-4052) Issue: When you type certain values such as airport names, city names, and so forth into the Origin box or the Destination box in the Route Drawer, and then exit the box before tapping the Search icon, the app displays a message indicating that the entry is invalid. Mitigation: After you enter a series of characters into an airport box, tap the Search icon before tapping elsewhere in the app.
App is Unable to Locate Airport Names that Include Apostrophes (WINRT-3686) Issue: When you enter an airport name in either the Origin or Destination box in the Route Drawer, and the name includes an apostrophe, the app is unable to locate the airport. Mitigation: Type the ICAO identifier of the airport.

Known Limitations
App Stops Responding When You Change Screen Resolution While Viewing Terminal Charts (WINRT4040) Issue: Under certain conditions, if you modify the screen resolution after having zoomed a PDF chart (such as a taxi diagram), the app might stop responding. Mitigation: Avoid modifying the screen resolution while viewing PDF charts.
Two-Finger Swipe Between Zoomed Charts Requires Panning to Edge of Chart (WINRT-3568) Issue: If you attempt to use a two-finger swipe action to navigate from chart to chart in your chart clip, and the currently visible chart is zoomed in, the chart must be panned to the left or the right edge before the two-finger swipe action advances to the next chart. Mitigation: For charts that are zoomed in, you either must pan to the edge of the current chart before swiping to the adjacent chart or you must zoom out on the current chart before attempting to swipe with two fingers.
Time Zones at Airports Greater than 12 Hours after UTC Are Not Displayed Correctly (WINRT-3722) Issue: For some regions near the international dateline, such as those near Samoa and Tonga, if the time zone conversion to UTC is -13, the time zone information that appears on the Airport Object Details box incorrectly reports the conversion as -12. Mitigation: No mitigation currently exists.
Chart Does Not Maintain Default Zoom Level When Device is Rotated (WINRT-3912) Issue: If you display a chart at the default zoom level specified in App Settings, and then rotate the physical device from portrait orientation to landscape orientation (or vice-versa), the app does not always continue to display the chart at the default zoom level. Mitigation: Regardless of the chart zoom level and regardless of the device orientation, double-tap the chart to restore the chart zoom level to the default setting in App Settings.

Known Limitations
App Displays “Invalid Airport” Message When Valid Criteria is Entered in the Airport Boxes (WINRT-4052) Issue: When you enter a valid search string in an Airport box and then move the focus out of the box, the app displays the “Invalid Airport” message. Mitigation: Before moving the focus out of the Airport box, be sure to tap the Search icon.
Locking the Display with the Chart Selection Drawer Open Does Not Dim All of the User Controls (WINRT3995) Issue: When you lock the display with the Chart Selection Drawer still open, the toolbar for highlighting and rotating charts is dimmed (as expected), but the controls in the Chart Selection Drawer still appear to be input-capable. Mitigation: No mitigation currently exists.
App Settings and User Notes Are Not Retained when Upgrading App from Version 8.0.1.4 to Version 8.1 (WINRT-4085) Issue: When you upgrade FliteDeck Pro from Version 8.0.1.4 to Version 8.1, the app does not retain the following information: • Chart notes • Chart zoom levels • Enroute map filters Mitigation: Before you upgrade, make note of any settings that notes that you want to retain. After the upgrade, enter new notes, set enroute filters as desired, and set the desired zoom level for your charts.

Known Limitations
Snap View Causes Some Objects to Disappear from View (WINRT-4081) • Issue: When you display the app in snap view and access app settings, depending on the relative size of the displayed apps, the settings tools disappear. If you further enlarge the size of the secondary app, the Settings icon also disappears. • Mitigation: Enlarge the FliteDeck Pro screen area until the settings icon again comes into view. When the icon is visible, you can access app settings.
Snap View Causes Chart Notes to Disappear (WINRT4175) Issue: When you display a terminal chart in snap view, and the chart includes a handwritten note, the note does not resize proportionally with the displayed chart. Depending on the relative size of the displayed apps, the note also disappears from view. Mitigation: Enlarge the FliteDeck Pro screen area until the note again comes into view.
Snap View Causes Chart Category Buttons to Disappear (WINRT-4214) Issue: When you display a terminal chart in snap view, depending on the relative size of the displayed apps, the chart category buttons disappear from view. Mitigation: Enlarge the FliteDeck Pro screen area until the chart category buttons again come into view.
Unable to Reconnect to GPS Receiver After Airplane Mode is Turned On (WINRT-3825) Issue: If a GPS receiver is paired with the device and the device is placed in Airplane mode, when Airplane mode is turned off, the device loses the connection with the receiver. Mitigation: First, turn Airplane mode off. Then restart the device and ensure that Airplane mode remains off. Then restart the App.

Known Limitations
Users Are Not Alerted to Changes in Route Structure When They Transition to a New Database (WINRT4259) Issue: When users update data and the new data excludes route information in a current route, the app does not alert them that the route has been modified. Mitigation: No mitigation currently exists.
Term Chart Zoom and Rotation Settings Do Not Always Persist (WINRT-4261) Issue: When a user zooms all the way and rotates a terminal chart for one airport, and then accesses charts for another airport, upon returning to the first airport chart, the zoom and rotation settings might not have persisted. The chart might appear in the default view settings. Mitigation: No mitigation currently exists.
