We are seeking two Acoustics Consultants to join our successful teams in Manchester and the Midlands. Arup’s acoustic consultants are at the forefront of enabling major projects like High Speed 2 to achieve public and parliamentary approval and in helping or clients understand acoustic concepts through auralisation demonstrations in our SoundLab. Our team of acoustic consultants offer an international design service, providing a full range of architectural, building transport and environmental acoustic solutions, in addition to sound and audio visual systems design. Our broad range of skills and experience enables us to offer advice from conception and master planning, through planning application, design, construction, testing and commissioning. Our leaders are internationally recognised in all aspects of acoustic consulting and in the acoustic design of performing arts buildings and railways and major infrastructure projects.
Role:
Our two roles will be technical members of project delivery teams. This includes measurement of noise and vibration and analysis of the results by computational means to provide input to design issues; spreadsheet calculation of acoustic methodologies and application of the findings to design questions; using acoustic modelling software; preparing drawings and writing technical reports or design information. The roles require accurate and succinct presentation of data and solutions through calculations, drawings and report writing and the presentation of ideas in a meetings environment. The roles also require out of hours and on site working. Projects range from small investigative projects, maybe local to the office, to >£100M international projects, always as part of a project team. We require people who are able to manage time between many competing projects and delivery timetables; are self-motivated and able to present solutions in a clear understandable and timely manner. Candidates will also have demonstrated where they have brought new solutions to design problems or analysis techniques.
JOB DESCRIPTION Requirements and skills:
Essential Skills and Knowledge • Two years minimum practice in acoustic consultancy or similar • Experience in measurements of noise and vibration and analysis of results • Experience in acoustic modelling software either for environmental noise or building acoustics Qualifications: • Degree in acoustics or a related subject • Member or Associate member of the IOA (desirable) Desirable skills and knowledge: • Experience in both building and environmental acoustic design • Experience of work in 3D computational environments, e.g. Revit or GIS • Experience in the development of bespoke software analysis routines or tools
