junior road safety scheme safe cycling Cycling Cycling is great fun and one of the best forms of exercise. It is also a cheap, reliable and convenient way of travelling. The enclosed leaflets give useful information on safer cycling that you can develop and display on your notice board. On road cycling skills This course aims to provide young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to help them keep themselves as safe as possible when riding on the road. For more information on cycle training courses please contact the Road Safety Team on 01803 207671. We need parent volunteers to help with cycle training for a couple of hours a week. It would be a good idea for you to make posters advertising for volunteers for your school. There are a variety of leaflets available for this campaign. Please see samples at the end of this section. Reme m keep a ber record of all the w you d ork o. Information Choosing the right helmet Wearing a cycle helmet reduces the risk of head injuries. The helmet must fit properly; always try on a helmet before you buy it. It should fit snugly around the head. Helmets have detachable pads and straps or adjustable sections to help fit the size of your head. Only buy a helmet that meets one of these standards: SNELL B.90 or B.95,ANSI Z 90.4,AS 2063, BS EN1078 Check that it fits! Make sure the helmet fits comfortably and securely and that the straps are easy to fasten and adjust. The helmet must not obstruct your vision or cover your ears Remember - be careful when riding your bicycle. Look all around for traffic and wear bright clothing.
