K4u Advanced keyboard & mouse switch Overview The Amulet Hotkey K4u is an advanced multi-platform keyboard, mouse and audio switch. It allows up to four computers to be controlled from a single keyboard and mouse and will mix or switch four sources of audio to one pair of powered speakers. It is designed for professional use in mission critical applications where reliability and security are paramount. Any combination of USB, PS/2 and legacy Sun format computers can be connected to the K4u rear panel. A USB, PS/2 or Sun keyboard and mouse can be connected to the K4u front panel. Channel changing is accomplished using a three-button mouse, a keyboard hot-key sequence or an optional 4-button controller. In addition, the K4u fully supports the intuitive Mouse Point® system pioneered and patented by Amulet Hotkey. The K4u's advanced internal system code fully emulates the appropriate keyboard and mouse protocol without relying on the target OS hot-plug capability. It automatically senses the kind of computer, keyboard or mouse attached and configures itself without service interruption, making for much simpler and faster installation and configuration. This can help to significantly speed up re-configuration of the workplace when carrying out, for example, moves, adds and changes on a trading floor. The K4u is specifically designed to enhance system security by preventing channel cross-talk or key-stroke recording and, unlike cheaper, less reliable switches, the K4u firmware can be upgraded at any time ensuring that you always have the latest features and best performance. This connection can be fixed to a specific computer or switched by the user between computers. When a device is connected to the hot-plug port, the corresponding computer will 'see' the device and, if possible, load the associated drivers.
Mouse Point is a simple yet powerful tool for organising a desktop and controlling the k4u keyboard, mouse and audio switch. Using Mouse Point, the k4u can be made to switch channels from one computer to the next by simply moving the cursor to another screen.

The k4u is fitted with a front panel USB 'hot-plug' port. This allows a user to attach an authorised USB peripheral such as a printer, camera, PDA or memory stick to the k4u for connection to one of the 4 computers. The k4u provides a 'transparent' connection through to one of the attached computers.

Focus Indicators The k4u is not a video switch. The monitors must remain connected to the computers (as shown below). So, to help see which monitor is currently the focus of keyboard and mouse input, you can choose the optional Focus Indicators. These attach to the k4u rear panel and are positioned under each monitor, lighting up to show which is selected...
