Kayak HD Kayak SD Affordable Multi-Format Switching
Grass Valley™ products from Thomson offer the most comprehensive, multi-format solutions for acquisition, production, storage, playback, and transmission—and a strong foundation for centralized, proactive status and activity monitoring. Our Kayak HD and HD-upgradeable Kayak SD switcher lines are a powerful, multi-format expansion of the popular Kayak™ family that is installed in thousands of facilities worldwide. Designed for broadcasters and professional users in live and studio settings, it’s perfect for those who need a high-performance solution at an affordable price. The architecture of the Kayak HD and Kayak SD switcher families makes them highly portable yet flexible. Both offer an internal sixchannel RAMRecorder™ image store that records and plays out clips and stills. The standard capacity of the RAMRecorder unit allows approximately 30 seconds of clip playback in HD and 2 minutes, 45 seconds in SD. The KlipCache options doubles this capacity to approximately one minute in HD and 5 minutes 30 seconds in SD. What’s more, the active-area feature of the RAMRecorder unit lets you reduce memory usage by defining the area of the raster to be captured or played back, such as with an animated logo in the corner of the screen. Kayak HD and Kayak SD control panels are available in 1-, 1.5-, 2-, 2.5-, and 3 M/E versions. Panels of 1.5 M/E and above feature mnemonic source displays on each M/E for easy input identification; the 3 M/E panel models feature source display on each M/E and program row. Multiple control panels or M/E delegation let you control up to 4.5 M/Es in a single frame.
To simplify your transition to HD production, all Kayak HD models offer our MatchDef dual video input scalar option, allowing you to match SD sources into an HD production, or HD sources into an SD production, and cross match different HD formats, without sacrificing critical production elements such M/Es or keyer transforms. It also enables you to match video sources of different aspect ratios seamlessly to the native production format. And if you’re working in SD today but need an affordable, easy transition to HD tomorrow, you can convert a Kayak SD model to a multi-format Kayak HD model via a straightforward software upgrade. Leveraging the same high-quality engineering and many features of our Kalypso™ HD Video Production Center, Zodiak™ digital video switcher, and the KayakDD digital video switcher, the Kayak HD and Kayak SD switchers provide extensive machine control choices. Full networking capabilities allow multiple control panels to share resources in one video processor chassis, or one panel controlling two chassis with an intuitive graphical user interface using an integrated touch-screen display for easy operation.
