Extending IR signals requires non-standard IR Emitter and IR Sensor/Target equipment. This equipment is included in the KD-HD16x16ProK. o The IR Emitters feature a stereo 3.5mm plug with a special pinout Tip = Ground Ring = IR Signal Sleeve = Open o The special IR Sensors must be used with the IR In ports. o Hard-wiring an IR signal from an external master controller / IR connecting block is not supported
To Control a monitor/television connected to the Rx unit via IR Example: o KD-MC1000 IR Emitter IR Sensor IR In (Matrix) Requires the special IR Sensor that is included with KD-HD16x16ProK Secure the IR emitter from your control system/connection block directly on to the IR Sensor. Connect the IR sensor to the desired Matrix “IR In” port.
<< Image to left: Depicts what the result would resemble when an emitter is affixed to the special sensor of the KD-HD16x16ProK. Both pieces are being held in place by electrical tape.
Figure 1
IR Emitter shown above Special IR Sensor; prior to affixing units as shown in Figure 1. Note the IR emitter is being placed directly over the eye of the sensor.
The above image is a magnified portion from the rear of the KD-HD16x16ProK unit. “IR IN” port shown is where the 3.5mm jack of the Special IR Sensor will be connected once it has been affixed and enclosed with the IR Emitter as shown in Figure 1. This achieves routing IR signals into the matrix.
IR Out of Rx:
Requires the included special stereo 3.5mm emitter being connected to the “IR Out” port on the KD-X16x16RX unit
RS-232 In:
From KD-MC1000/KD-MC2500 there needs to be a special stereo crossed wire (not included) connected to the RS-232 in on Matrix; “stereo crossed wire” should have the wires swapped between tip and ring. Note: If using a 3rd party control system; refer to the manufacturer for appropriate pin out configuration.
Section 2: Modified Units Considerations and Preparations KD-HD16x16ProK enables control extension of IR and RS-232 signals IR Control signals can be “routed”
Control extension is bi-directional: o Matrix IR In port x Rx IR Out port x o Rx IR In port x Matrix IR Out port x o Matrix RS-232 port x Rx RS-232 port x o Rx RS-232 port x Matrix RS-232 port x
Extending IR signals to sources from the KD-HD16x16ProK requires a mono IR Emitter/Serial cable.
Serial IR from a control system/IR connection block is supported using a 3.5mm male-to-male mono cable. IR signal voltage should be within the range of 3.3 12volts o KD-HD16x16ProK Serial IR pin out Tip = IR Signal Ring = Open Sleeve = Ground
To capture line of sight IR signals going into the matrix or extender, the included nonstandard IR Sensor/Target equipment must be utilized. Third party IR sensors are not recommended.
IR Out of Rx: Requires the included special stereo 3.5mm emitter being connected to the “IR Out” port on the KD-X16x16RX unit o The IR Emitters feature a stereo 3.5mm plug with a special pinout
Tip = Ground Ring = IR Signal Sleeve = Open
RS-232 In:
From KD-MC1000/KD-MC2500 there needs to be a special stereo crossed wire (not included) connected to the RS-232 in on Matrix; “stereo crossed wire” should have the wires swapped between tip and ring.
Note: If using a 3rd party control system; refer to the manufacturer for appropriate pin out configuration
IR Control Routing: In addition to the point-to-point IR configuration that is set by default to occur between relative ports; IR Control routing can be manipulated to change the default signal path to the desired signal path. Signal path changes are established by sending IR routing RS232 commands. IR control can be routed point to (any) point e.g. “IR IN” port 1 on the matrix to “IR OUT” of the Rx connected to RJ45 port 13. IR control can be routed from one “IR IN” point to all “IR OUT” points. One scenario in which this may be useful is if there are 16 displays in a system which are identical (by model or discrete code set), and it is requested that one remote control all displays. IR routing to another destination can be in addition to the default pass through route if desired. If only the newly desired destination is required, the default pass through route must be disabled by IR routing command.
IR Routing Commands The KD-HD16x16ProK supports both forward (SPOIRR xx yy) and backward (SPIIRR xx yy) IR routing individually. “Forward” meaning signals introduced at the “IR IN” ports of the matrix being routed to Rx extender unit(s) “Backward” meaning signals introduced at the “IR IN” ports of the Rx extender unit(s) being routed to the matrix
Example 1: Routing control from matrix “IR IN” port 1 to control the display connected to the Rx extender of RJ45 port 5. 1. “SPOIRRA00” : (close all IR routes) or 1. SPOIRR 01 00 = (close default path) 2. “SPOIRR0501” : (set IR route to destination Rx 05 from IR input 01) 3. Send IR command from Master Controller
Example 2: Routing control from matrix “IR IN” port 1 to control the displays connected to the Rx extenders of RJ45 port 5 and RJ45 port 14. 1. 2. 3. 4.
“SPOIRRA00” : (close all IR routes) “SPOIRR0501” : (set IR route to destination Rx 05 from IR input 01) “SPOIRR1401” : (set IR route to destination Rx 14 from IR input 01) Send IR command from Master Controller
