SHARPEYE™ TECHNOLOGY SEE WHAT YOU ARE MISSING SHARPEYE™ VS MAGNETRON IN HEAVY RAIN CONDITIONS
I-BAND (X-BAND) E/F-BAND (S-BAND)
Kelvin Hughes has developed SharpEye™ radar technology to provide enhanced situational awareness to a multitude of platforms. SharpEye™ provides earlier warning of the presence of small targets and increases the radar operators capability to detect targets in clutter that are invisible to other radar technologies. SharpEye™ provides superior radar performance, low cost of ownership and high reliability through its solid state electronics negating the use of a magnetron in the transmitter. With the patented pulse sequence, where it transmits simultaneously short, medium and long pulses, Doppler processing of the radar returns and low transmit peak power, the operator receives the advantages found only previously in military radar systems, but at a price that is affordable for wide use. Applications span commercial shipping, naval navigation and enhanced situational awareness, helicopter recovery at sea, vessel trafic services systems, coastal surveillance, border security, civil infrastructure security and mobile and deployable security and surveillance systems. SharpEye™ technology is applied to all Kelvin Hughes solid state radar solutions, including naval and coast guard radar, shore based systems, small boat radomes, lightweight land security radar, long range land surveillance radar and BOXER lat panel phased array portable radar.

SITUATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, THE WORLD OVER
Enhanced detection performance - simultaneous short, medium and long pulse transmission. Doppler processing – extracts radial velocity information. Small target detection – less than 0.5m2 RCS. Clutter removal without picture degradation. Frequency diversity – further improves detection and clutter performance. Pulse compression – restores range discrimination. Ultra-high reliability – 100% solid state electronics – NO MAGNETRON – NO MAINTENANCE. Delivers same amount of energy or more in the pulse than a 25kW magnetron radar. Covert – low peak power – reduced probability of intercept. Customisable waveforms – target speciic threats such as UAVs and USVs. Frequency selection – 14 user selectable frequencies, resistant to jamming, resistant to interference.
SHARPEYE™ EVOLUTION SHARPEYE™ TRANSCEIVER SharpEye™ technology is continually evolving, building on the ethos of advanced design, durability, reliability, high performance, lightweight and crucially enhanced target detection. As such, Kelvin Hughes has introduced into its range of sensors GaN (Gallium Nitride) transistor technology. The irst radar of its kind to do so, SharpEye™ is able to transmit up to 300W of peak power whilst still maintaining its covert low probability of transmission intercept advantage. This means more mean energy will reach the target thereby improving detection performance even further. GaN transistor technology enables the output transmitter power transistors to be driven harder without reducing performance. They are inherently more eficient, with a higher power density and thermal capacity than GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) transistors, reducing the physical size of the unit and improving heat management. This evolution does not stop there - the upmast system is a self-contained cutting-edge line replaceable package. Boasting world irsts such as the irst available ships navigation and situational awareness radar housing made from composite carbon ibre materials, with exceptional high strength and resistance to shock and vibration, it is lightweight and not susceptible to sea salt or galvanic corrosion. The proile of the upmast radar housing is designed to avoid 90° internal dihedral or trihedral corners, vertical lat surfaces or cylindrical shapes and has casework angles of 15°. This and the materials used contribute to a 90% reduction in the radar cross section of a typical alternative turning unit or housing thereby aligning with modern naval ship design principles for minimising radar cross sections. SharpEye™ is now even harder to detect not just from its low transmitted power attributes, but also from its mechanical features.
