Product is discontinued Measurement sensors KM1 SERIES Amplifier Built In Analog Sensors Linear analog output is incorporated in the same package as KA1 Photoelectric Sensors * Original Sensor FEATURES Accurate measurement regardless of colors, materials, and different target shapes Analog sensor can measure white or black target at the same distance. Various outputs are provided for wide range of applications • Alarm output: PNP or NPN output type is selectable for the polarity of output circuit. • Analog output: Voltage or current output type is selectable. Excellent linearity characteristics with aspherical lens The lens used in KM1 analog sensor is a high-precision, aspherical type. This assures accurate detection without aspherical and coma abberation, and also reduces temperature drift. Resistive for soild lens surface Analog sensor measures the distance by the incidence angle, not the received light intensity. Even if the lens surface is soiled by dust or any powdery material, there is a little variation of distance range. Operating Environment 1) The sensor should be used in an ambient temperature range of –25 to +60°C –13 to +140°F and ambient humidity range of 35 to 85% or the location where water does not condense by sudden temperature change. 2) Use an operating voltage in the range of 19.2 to 28.8 V DC (less than 10% of ripple P-P). 3) The light intensity on the receiver surface should be less than 3,000 lux for an incandescent light and less than 10,000 lux for sunlight and especially affected by lower illumination of inverter fluorescent lamp. 4) Use a surge absorber as the internal circuit may be damaged if external surge voltages exceed 500 V±(1.250) µs (single polarity full-wave voltage). 5) Avoid use in locations with high concentrations of steam, dust corrosive gases, where sunlight is directly shined, directly on top of equipment with heat generation and influenced by generated heat. 6) The sensor is immersion protected type, but this does not mean that it can be used in water or where there is direct impingement of rain for detecting targets. 2. Wiring 1) Check all wiring before applying power since incorrect wiring may damage internal circuit. 2) Ground the frame ground (FG) terminal and ground (G) terminal to avoid the influence from high frequency noise when using a commercially available switching regulator. If a ground is not connected, switching noise from the power supply may result in faulty. 3) Insulated transformer should be used when using a transformer for the power source. Sensor and transformer may be damaged if autotransformer is used. 4) Care should be taken to allow the voltage drop (NPN type max. 1.2 V or PNP type max. 2 V) from the operating voltage in the case that a relay coil is connected to the alarm output. 5) If cable is extended, the equivalent cable whose length is 10 m 32.81 ft. or less should be used for the analog output part. Wire 0.3 mm2 .0005 inch2 or larger should be used for wiring up to a length of 50 m 164.05 ft. for the other terminals. 6) A shielded wire should be used for analog output line and separated from high voltage circuit and power circuit. If unavoidable, analog output should be wired separately and shielded by the conductor such as earthed electric wire. 3. Noise 1) Sensor should be installed as far as possible from high voltage line (equipment), power line (equipment), the equipment with transmitter of wireless communication, the equipment which generates the large switching surge. 2) In the case that large noise is conducted through power supply, a noise filter or noise cut transformer shall be used, since the analog output is affected by such a noise. 4. Warming-up time For the use in which high precision required, be sure to secure the warming-up time of 30 min or more after power is turned ON. 5. Detector 1) Keep the detector surface clean as excessive dust or dirt on the detector surface will decrease the margin of the detection distance. 2) The front surface of the lens and case are made of polycarbonate resin. Although it withstands water, weak acids and alkalines, aliphatic hydrocarbons, oils and fats, it is not resistant to ketones, esters, halogenated hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons. 6. Target 1) Mounting direction of the sensor with respect to the movement direction of the target must be in the following two direction. 8. Alarm output This output is energized when the luminous volume received from an object exceeds or become less than the specified value (50 mA, 30 V DC open collector). 9. Other cautions 1) When using optional mounting bracket, tighten the mounting screws with a maximum torque of 0.8 N·m {8.2 kgf·cm 7.09 lbf·in}. If the optional mounting bracket is not used, mount the sensor on a flat surface. 2) Be sure to mount the sensor with the detecting face of sensor and object being on horizontal, as shown in the following illustration. 3) If the sensors are mounted adjacently, they shall be so separated as not to have mutual interference. 100 mm 3.937 inch 100 mm 3.937 inch 100 mm 3.937 inch 100 mm 3.937 inch 2) Correct detection may not be possible for shiny, non-reflection, and transparent object, or liquid. 7. Analog output When alarm output is “ON’’, correct analog output van not be obtained. Analog output is less than 1 V (4 mA) at a distance range less than 20 cm .656 ft. between sensor and target, more Analog output characteristic 10 V 20 mA Output These products are not safety sensors and are not designed or intended to be used to protect life and prevent bodily injury or property damage. 1V 4 mA 20 cm .656 ft.
