Push down on the restraint while pulling the belt strap through the latchplate. Adjust the belt so that the restraint is secure. This type of belt will hold the restraint tightly and should not loosen during use. l l l LAP BELT WITH SEWN LATCHPLATE AND AUTOMATIC LOCKING OR BELT SENSITIVE RETRACTORS. (-jKTOUSE==~~==~ ==r=51= This type of belt has a buckle assembly which is sewn to the end of the belt. It has a retractor which will spool the belt back into the seatwhen the belt is not in use (fig. 3). Pull the strap all the way out of the retractor. Put it under the belt hooks if using rear facing or through the belt path in back if using forward facing, and buckle. Push down on the restraint while feeding all the belt slack into the retractor. When belt is tight, give it a tug to be sure it is locked. When locked, the retractor will not loosen and should hold the seat securely. l l l LAP-SHOULDER BELT WITH LOCKING ======= OKT(-JUSE===BS=X LATCHPLATE. This type of belt has a latchplate which is manually adjusted and does not slide across the belt easily. There are no retractors, and the belt will not spool back into the seat. F’ut the belt under belt hooks if using rear facing or through belt path if using fonvard facing, and buckle it. While pushing down on the restraint, pull the shoulder belt through the latchplate to tighten the lap belt. Latchplate should lock the length of the seat belt and the lap portion of the seaf belt should hold the restraint tightly. l l l LAP-SHOULDER BELT WITH NON-LOCKING ONLY USE WTTH A LOCKTNG CLIP LATCHPLATE. This belt slides freely through the latchplate, and has a retractor in the upper half of the belt which spools the belt back above the shoulder. Do not use without lockinp cliD: VOW child will not be safe. * Put the lap belt under the restraint’s belt hooks if usiny rear facing and through the beit path if using forward facing, and buckle it. * Pull on the shoulder belt to tighten the lap belt while pushing down on the restraint. Unbuckle the belt, but hold the two portions of the belt together. 9 Put the locking clip on the belt as shown (fig. 1). about 1.3 cm. (l/2 in.) behind the latchplate (fig. 2). Buckle the belt again. The locking clip should clasp together two portions ofthe belt. If the locking clip is on correctly, it will hold the lap belt tight and keep the restraint secure. If the lap belt slips, or the restraint moves easily, remove the locking clip and repeat the two previous steps. l K l LAP BELT WITH EMERGENCY-LOCKING =P=====:J)()NOT~PPIPI=I RETRACTOR This type of belt has a buckle assembly which is sewn to the end of the seat, and has a retractor which spools the belt into the seat when the belt is not used: This seat belt stays loose in normal driving. It will not hold a child restraint tightly in place. In a sudden stop or crash, it will lock, but not soon enough to prevent the restraint from moving too far forward on the auto seat.
